“Great place, needs better photographers.”

Blue Trailz is a great place to stay. It is your typical hostel environment, with a good selection of boards, and friendly staff. The only issue I had was with a local photographer we hired to take photos of us surfing named Leo. He took the photos, said they were no good, and wouldn't charge us to still get them, but never delivered. If we had received the photos the trip would have been perfect, but other than that everything was wonderful.

I Stayed at Bluetrailz for around two weeks. I cannot recommend this hostel enough. The staff are to a large degree the reason why the hostel is so fantastic. They are always willing to help out and all go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleasant. They organize surf trips every week to nearby beaches when the swell in tamarindo dies down, which is a huge plus. Blue trailz by far has the best selection of boards for rent in town from 6'0 single fins to 10 foot long boards, the choice is overwhelming.

As far as the rooms go, the beds are extremely comfortable, both dorms have ac and hotwater showers which is a massive pro. It's a small hostel and that's what makes it so great. I am a solo traveller and found it extremely easy to meet other like minded people who were just as stoked as I was to be surfing and staying at bluetrailz.

If your considering staying in tamarindo, don't stay anywhere else

I've spent a lot of time in a lot of hostels all over the world, but was extremely impressed by Blue Trailz. The staff was kind and helpful, not to mention multilingual. The place couldn't be better located, right in the center of town, across from the beach. It was clean, the beds were more comfortable than many hotel beds I've had the misfortune of sleeping on, had A/C, fridge, kitchen, etc. Most of all, it felt safe, with a night watchman right outside the the front door of the hostel. The owner was kind enough to take us to watch a beautiful sunset overlooking Tamarindo, and, on a more personal note, actually came to visit me and pick me up from the local clinic after a surfing accident, caused solely by my lack of skill. I only planned on two days in Tamarindo and stayed a week, mostly because I just had a great time at Blue Trailz. Thank you, guys!

Room Tip: There are few rooms in this hostel and they fill up fast, but extremely clean and ubelievably inexpe...

Wells and I(Stephen) stayed at bt late September of 2012. We had a private room for the two of us and was perfect! Both had tons of room for boards, bags, bikes, etc. the beds were comfy, the showers had hot water, and the kitchen was above expectations. If I'm ever in tamarindo again, I'm staying at bluetrailz. The staff and people we met well always be remembered as the highlight of our trip. Koen is the MAN!

Clean, great location, and fabulous staff. Loved our time here. They arranged tours and outings that were perfect. Their knowledge of surfing, biking, boating and just about everything made our stay here wonderful.

Ok, so just stayed here and here's our thoughts.... We took a double and it was massive, 2 double beds and a bunk bed! The place is awesomely clean, always sterile which is nice in a poor country. The hostel was very small which made it hard to be social. They only have 4 rooms so it's difficult to meet lots of different people when travelling. The surf / yoga school was really good, I heard mixed feedback but we has Walter as an surf instructor and he was really good, learnt a lot in just a week and went put his way to purely focus on you (believe me, the standard feedback is quite the opposite). Yoga lessons were really good too. We got two free tours, zip lining is very cool and is a must, estuary tour was very average, don't really see much but I don't love monkeys either in truth so that didn't help.... Alll in all, really nice people, small clean and really well located hostel. I would go again as long as ibwasnt looking for a super social vibe.... Pura Vida
