Beautiful property with cozy walkways. Quiet area. Beautiful pool open late at night. Very friendly staff who were very accommodating. Nice sunset drinks on the beach. Not far from town where you can visit some great beaches. Hope to return soon for repeat experience.

My husband and I stayed at Cala Luna during our honeymoon. While we visited two other resorts during our 10 day Costa Rica stay, we can honestly say that the personal attention and all around experience at Cala Luna was the best. We actually purchased our stay at Cala Luna via Travel Zoo, and we were delighted with the outcome. The daily cooked-to-order breakfast was outstanding and accompanied by wonderful fresh juices, coffee, and breads. We enjoyed two evening meals at the hotel, which were also delicious. The evening sunset cocktails on the beach were a nice touch. The proximity to town was convenient and easily within walking distance. This quaint and cozy hotel is a winner in our book, and we appreciated the attentiveness of the staff to make it a memorable stay.

Dear Lori,
Thank you for appreciating our staff so much. It always fills us with pride when guests had a wonderful experience in Costa Rica and especially when we were part of this. Our local pastry chef is trying out new recipes regularly and I am one of the lucky ones to "have to" try them. Same with the fresh juices and all vegetable and herb combinations our guys can come up with. Life is sometimes hard in Paradise :-)

I have recently returned from a 10 day stay at Cala Luna, during which I got married on the property. I cannot express in words how impressed I (and our guests) were with the hotel; I would recommend Cala Luna to anyone visiting Tamarindo!

Overall Stay:

All of our guests were thrilled with the villas and private pools, the property is beautifully kept, and the foliage between rooms/villas really helps to promote a secluded private feeling between guests. The only con is the beach, which is for the most part is not swimmable. However, you are a 10 minute walk from the main (Tamarindo) beach; we did this walk daily no problem. There are also cabs available for $5 into town, or a hotel shuttle (perfect for our large group), which cost us $1 per person.

Food in the restaurant and lounge for lunch/dinner were both delicious. We couldn’t get enough of the Portobello mushroom appetizer! Breakfast was also a huge hit with everyone (no matter how great a night, everyone was making it for breakfast!) Everything was fresh, delicious and there was a good assortment. The French pressed coffee and steamed milk was an added bonus every morning.

Where I find Cala Luna exceeds expectations is in the person service. This was my second visit to the property (first time was in Oct 2012), and both times we were blown away by the staff. They made an attempt to get to know all guests and will jump at the opportunity to make your stay even the slightest bit better.

Wedding:

The ceremony took place on the beach, with reception followed afterwards at Calatea. Both spaces were absolutely gorgeous, and felt very private. The execution of all of my requests/wishes was fantastic; it could not have turned out any better. This property (especially by the beach) makes for amazing wedding photos at sunset!

I was also quite impressed with the food at our reception. It was buffet style, but presented very nicely (not a traditional help yourself style buffet), all of our guests were beyond impressed!

Overall a fantastic trip at an amazing hotel. If you are looking for a peaceful, private, and pampering experience this is the place for you!

Dear Catherine and Adam,
You and your family and friends were a delight to have as guests and we loved pampering all of you! Your wedding party was rather large, so we proposed a buffet style dinner and we pride ourselves in making this also a gourmet experience with personal service. Melissa and Kristina (our two in house wedding planners) asked me to send you their love. They hope to see you back soon.
Warm greetings, Ann Vervoort

We went on vacation with my brother and his wife and this location was perfect for us. We rented a Villa which had a private pool. After checking in we where shown to our villa by Carlos. He told us all we needed to do is ask for him and he would help us with anything and he did exactly that. My sister-in-law preferred the main pool at the resort and I preferred the private pool so we each had the best of both worlds. The food at the restaurant was great! The breakfast was not a buffet. You could order off the menu and everything was delicious! They also had 4 or 5 kinds of fresh fruit and different breads and sweet breads that you could eat as you wished. The fish tacos at the poolside café were amazing! We also had dinner there on two nights and both meals were excellent! Every night they had a free cocktail on the beach for the sunset viewing. Carlos even brought us lawn chairs so we could sit and relax. You can't go wrong with this hotel!

Room Tip: We loved our villa!!

Dear Mary,
Fresh tropical fruits are available in abundance and we love to offer them to you as our guests. All our juices are always made with fresh fruit all day around. In fact, we do not use any pasteurized juices, which not only helps us save on excessive packaging but it also tastes better and is healthier. And yes, the fish taco is one of my favourites too as well as the tasty veggie burger prepared by our chef as well as.... I could keep on going. Sunny greetings,
Ann Vervoort

In 2012, my son and his fiancée and my husband and I traveled to Tamarindo to explore options for my son's wedding. We stayed at Cala Luna and loved it so much then that we decided to return with friends and family for the wedding. Over 50 people came to celebrate, and Cala Luna did not disappoint the crowd that ranged in age from 24-80.

We stayed in 2 and 3 bedroom villas, each with their own pool. The villas are beautiful and spacious and very clean. The pools are well maintained as well. Our pool clouded over but within a day, it was perfectly clear. Breakfast was a buffet including fresh fruit, fresh fruit juices, French pressed coffee and everything from pancakes, French toast and an omelette/egg station. It was only on our last morning after most of the rest of the group had left that we ordered off of the menu. We were able to enjoy eggs benedict. Yummm.

The staff at the front desk was very accommodating. We called down for ice often and within a few minutes it was at our door. They helped us with reservations at restaurants in town. They helped us with a quick transfer into town to go to dinner. Carlos was so helpful. The gal at the front desk was equally pleasant and helpful to our group as well. I just can't remember her name!

The wedding turned out to be an unbelievable event. Everything was choreographed perfectly. It was so beautiful down under the shade of the trees by the shore at 4:00 to allow for photos at sunset. The reception was at La Calatea which was decorated beautifully. The meal was outstanding. The staff at the wedding were fantastic and by this point in the week they were more like friends.

I believe that what sets this resort apart from others is the service. Within a day, they knew our names. They took the time to chat with us. They always stopped to say hello and make sure that everything was ok. Everyone in our group, all 52 of us, loved the resort. The surroundings are lush with vegetation and the monkeys visit daily. We also saw other wildlife and the always entertaining blue jays.

Thank you Cala Luna for providing the perfect setting for the wedding and our vacation. The experience will never be forgotten.

Room Tip: Stay in a villa with a pool.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we would love to go back! The service is great and the staff go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your time. The food was delicious! They are also very honest! My husband left a pair of Costa sunglasses by the pool. Expecting them to be stolen by anyone we went to the front desk just to make sure and a staff member had returned them. Honesty and kindness is rare to come by these days so we were thrilled! We highly recommend this resort and will love to go back in the future.

Dear Mai,
How wonderful that you and your husband had such a good time at Cala Luna and thank you for recommending us to the Trip Advisor Community. Our amazing swimming pool, as you call it, definitely is the heart of the hotel. It is where you can relax, cool off in the blue water, read your mails or the book you were longing to read for a long time, enjoy a tropical cocktail and munch on some delicious pool bites. At night, having dinner next to the pool under a dark sky full of stars (you can even see the milkway) is pure luxury.
Sunny greetings from paradise, Ann Vervoort
