“Attention to detail, at every step!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

From the moment you drive into the resort area at Cala Luna, it is clear that the owners and management have thought of all the details. Immaculate gardens, incredibly welcoming reception area with tasteful decorating and friendly staff.
The pool is beautiful, the restaurants have delicious food. La Caleta has gorgeous day-beds to lay out and read a book which you can select from their well-stocked bookshelves.
The rooms are large and super comfortable, the AC cold, the bathrooms beautiful with big deep tiled bath tubs. Also artfully decorated, it is an immediately relaxing environment.
Recommended for anyone who thinks they want to stay in Tamarindo, but would like to be away from it all- Langosta is just a short drive up the road and well worth it!!

This is a beautiful hotel, which I stayed at about six years ago, and this trip was just as nice. The hotel is about five minutes past downtown Tamarindo, but it's nice to be a little away from the noise and crowds. Rooms are very pretty and serene with beautiful tiled bathtubs and small patios with tables and chairs. The villas are a great option if you're traveling with a larger group or will be in town for a longer time. The restaurant is nice, though my sister and I preferred the food at the tapas bar at the other end of the pool. Breakfast is included and is delicious; they include local honey and organic fruits and cheeses whenever they can, as well as different fruit juices daily. Even though they don't have a true spa facility, you can schedule massages or take yoga classes (two days a week) in the pavilion area. The owner is often around in the evening and is always eager to speak with guests. Also, keep your eyes and ears open for the monkeys, we were lucky enough to see some on our first day there!

The consierge is very helpful and arranged surfing lessons, paddle boarding, and turtle nesting trips for us. You can find surf lessons on the beach for less, but if your Spanish isn't great or you're at all uncomfortable doing that, this is still a reasonable deal.

A few things to know: During the day, you can walk from the hotel to the public beach and walk down the beach into town; at night take a cab to and from (about $5). The hotel beach is rocky and you can't really swim there, but it is very pretty and they do a free happy hour on the beach every night. This is truly a hotel and not a resort, so when they say the kitchen closes at 10, that means there isn't food available on site beyond the minibar until the morning, unless you order take out. Service isn't as fast paced as we are used to in the United States, but I found that to be true everywhere, and fortunately at the Cala Luna, everyone is extremely nice and more than happy to help.

Go for the villa (own pool, huge space, peaceful and clean) you won't be disappointed. The most upscale property in Tamarindo. I'm not gonna say anymore about the hotel as other reviews are more than adequate to in describing the property. I am an upper middle class with 2 little girls and travel 3 times a yr to mostly carribean islands. When I travel I look for nice resort (cala luna is one of them), town itself and food (restaurant ambiance and quality). Unfortunately, the town and restaurants are subpar. Majority of tourists are lower middle class type americans (youngsters)--so everything are geared towards them. Town itself is filthy and filled with cheap motel style accomodations. All the very good reviews of restaurants are most likely reviewed by tourists who are budget-minded and frequent diner or chained restaurant goers. They don't know what quality cuisine is. So, don't expect much from restaurants if you're my type. we ate at Ttiki (overrated, hot, bar type, but cheap-that's why it is rated #1), Bamboo sushi (chinese take out sushi quality, hot, not recommended), Pangas (nice breeze, ok food), langosta beach club(expensive, good food, okay ambiance), La palapa(good food, too hot, slow), la pachanga (probably the best meal, snack bar ambiance, cheap, cooler), black stallion (fun place and unique, typical barbeque), and season's (bad ambiance, expensive, ok food, bad service). In summary, all the restaurants are subpar in quality, ambiance, service etc. Do not expect Aruba.
Do not walk at all. Take the cab-only $5 whereever. If you have kids- this is a must- go to langosta beach (by barcelo hotel-about 5 min walk from cala luna). Beach has bunch of estuaries with ocean water ankle high all over with tons--I mean tons of seashells. my kids don't like ocean (they don't even like palm beach in Aruba or Turks and calcos), but they had a blast at this beach. Trust me and go there.

My husband and I went here for his 30th birthday and had the time of our lives! The staff was so friendly and helpful, "no" was never an answer. They bent over backwards to make our stay romantic and memorable.

Thank you to Carlos at the front desk and to Sasha, Julia and Daniel at the bar! You guys made our vacation.

I would reccomend this hotel to my favorite people in the world!

Me and my girlfriend stayed at Cala Luna Hotel for 7 nights in February.

We had an amazing time with a lot of sunshine, surfing and sunsets at the beach.
The staff was really great, all of them were really friendly and service minded.
A big special thanks to Enrique, who always had a big smile on his face and was extremely service oriented and a really nice person.

Thank you all for making our stay to something special!
