“Amazing Getaway - Worth Every Penny”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

We came to Tamarindo for friend's wedding. Everything was amazing! We stayed in a villa - they are HUGE! Great value and you get own small private pool. Was perfect for us traveling with our one year old and mother. Lots of privacy with way villa is setup. The staff was excellent and have us everything we needed. Loved the different fresh fruit juices every morning at breakfast which was always amazing. Even saw some monkeys on property while there. Bit of a hike to walk to town, but manageable. Next time would rent bikes to get around.

My Fiance and I recently traveled to Costa Rica and were very pleased with our choice to stay at Cala Luna. First and foremost the staff is amazing. Most of the staff spoke good english, they couldn't have been more polite and made phenomenal recommendations throughout our experience. The atmosphere is very laid back and we enjoyed our wine and drinks served to us while floating in the beautiful pool.

We stayed here a few years ago but I still remember how perfectly situated the Cala Luna was allowing a short walk in one direction to the bustling town of Tamarindo or head the other direction to the peaceful Playa Langosta. The rooms were great, pool was good and services was fantastic

Cala Luna is all that is good in a small boutique hotel (a good one, of course):

A Home feeling and a personal touch on one hand, great facilities and quality on the other.
The private villas have their own pools, and they are very large. add to that a fully equipped kitchen with kitchen aid appliances, tons of space, and what happend (to us) is that we could not be bothered to leave the villa.... just place your iphone on the docking station that's in the room play your favorite music, take it to the pool, throw the kids to into the pool, grab a glass of wine, and - Voilà.

Anyway, they also have a very large common pool with two cabanas, the restaurant (both for breakfast or dinner) is really good, service is great, every thing you ask for - you get it, staff is very polite and helpful, concierge knows it all, she arranged us horseback riding, diving.

I am trying to think about something that was less than perfect - the free cocktail at the beach was not so tasty. but that's it.

Go there!

Room Tip: Villas are great.

Forget staying at the "Marriott" or the "Hilton", if you truly want to experience Costa Rica I would only stay at Cala Luna. This high scale Boutique style Hotel has a very relaxing feeling, we had our own private Villa with it's own private pool and your own private beach access. This hotel is located just a few foot steps away from the beach. It's tropical, beautiful and we had a fun family of monkeys stop by our Villa a few times during out stay. I can't say enough about this experience...

My husband and I recently stayed at Cala Luna for our honeymoon. The was gorgeous and looked just like the pictures. The best part about our stay was the staff. Deylin and Eddie worked at the restaurants and made our stay more fun, relaxing and enjoyable. They catered to every need and always went beyond the usual care. They were super fun to talk to and gave us a feel for Costa Rican culture. The rooms were cleaned daily with the exception of the sheets being changed (which I do not think is necessary any way). Cala Luna was everything it promised to be.
Although Cala Luna was everything it promised to be, I did not like the location of the resort. The beach at the hotel is not a beach that you can lay out on and does not have a swimable ocean due to rocks. The closest beach was Tamarindo Beach. It was NOT enjoyable. There is constant harassment from vendors. They are VERY aggressive. We only went to the beach one day because of this. The Tamarindo town was not very nice. My husband was fine with it, but I felt uncomfortable. I felt very safe at the resort, however.
Overall we had a fun time. My advice if you are looking to go out and party stay near Tamarindo. If you are a looking for a relaxing resort vacation, stay somewhere else.

I could not say more positive things about this hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to cater to your needs and wants during your vacation, the food is delicious, healthy, and creative, and the property is inviting, cleanly, and well-decorated. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that is considering staying in Tamarindo! While the hotel is not on the beach, it's only a short walk (less than a minute) to a rocky beach or a 10-minute walk into town to Playa Tamarindo. It is also very easy to have a cab take you into town to the beach, restaurants, or surf shops. I was extremely pleased with the food - both its presentation and flavor. The menu offers a variety of items that will please any food preferences, most of the food is local and organic. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly while not swarming you at every second. The hotel does a fantastic job creating the perfect getaway for couples, families, or friends. It is also a popular location for weddings.

Room Tip: If traveling with one other person I'd suggest booking a room, but if traveling with a family or...
