“Amazing is an understatement!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

This is so past due that I feel horrible, but I think I saved the best for last. We traveled around Costa Rica for almost three weeks and this was by far one of my favorite hotels. The family that owns LLR is incredibly nice and beyond helpful even giving us a ride to town when a taxi wasn't available. They were also very helpful with tours and dinners as well.

The property is gorgeous and well maintained. Very nice rooms. Fantastic for the price! Its just outside of town but a very quick taxi ride (about 4 dollars each way). Saw Monkeys and Toucans around the property and even while enjoying breakfast.

Hoping to stay here again real soon!!!

We stayed here the night before we flew out of Liberia - clean run from there to the airport. We booked at the last moment (through TripAdvisor.) Service was wonderful: greeted warmly upon arrival, everything explained, breakfast served quickly in the morning. The room, pool and hotel grounds were impeccable. The property is on the top of a hill to the north side of Samara with fabulous views from our room to both ends of the Samara beach, with hills and green in between. The room was lovely and comfortable, nice bathroom, large balcony facing two directions, and very private. Monkeys and plenty of birds in sight and earshot. Very quiet location (except for the animals.) Only location drawback: a distance from town. Breakfast was included and tipico (scrambled eggs, gallo pinto, toast, coffee/tea.)

The best part: I was notified by email that I'd left a garment behind - they were hoping they could still catch us in town, but we didn't get the email until we were back in the States. I offered to pay for shipping, but was told that someone was traveling "to North America" the next week, and would ship from there. I was delighted to receive it last week!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the water.

Hello NSKramer,

Thank you for your wonderful review!! These reviews serve as an important tool for us to make sure our guests enjoy their time with us. At times it can get a bit loud with the birds and the monkeys in the surrounding jungle but I find it is the kind of noise a person wants to listen too.

We are happy to know you received your forgotten item. Be sure to drop by on your next time through Costa Rica.

All the best,

We stayed at Lodge Las Ranas from Jan. 18- Jan. 23, 2014 and we had a great stay. Shelley and Cody who run the place are very helpful and really nice. They suggested things for us to check out and try in the area and we were not disappointed.
The attention to detail at the hotel is great too. It's very clean and everything is top notch.
All the staff at the hotel are very kind and we always felt comfortable.
The landscaping around the place is lovely and there is lots of wildlife. The hotel is situated out of town a little ways so it is quiet and you can get away from the hustle and bustle. The view from the hotel is fantastic as well! The pacific in the distance is beautiful.
We were traveling with our 3 year old son and they were very accommodating and kind to him.
if we are ever back in this area I would definitely stay at Lodge Las Ranas again.

Room Tip: We were very happy with our room and I think all the rooms were situated well so that you felt like...

We spent two nights at Lodge Las Ranas shortly before the busy Christmas season. As we were driving through town looking for the place, we were at first intimidated by the steep drive up to the lodge, but once there (and subsequently more comfortable with the driveway), we felt right at home. All the staff were super-friendly, and the room was very comfortable. Having a deck with two rocking chairs, and being able to sit in privacy while looking over the bay was special. The location affords both amazing sunrises and sunsets, as well as monkeys - audible as well as visible. We thoroughly enjoyed everything (including the pool/lounge area which is a great place to unwind). The price is a bit more than many of the other options in town, but well worth it.

Even though the lodge is not in town, it is easy to get to town and we had no problems with parking in town, making the trek back and forth more enjoyable.

Hello Brad,

Thank you for writing this great review! We are always happy to hear our guests enjoyed their time with us. We are lucky to be frequented by the local howler monkey population as well as many other animals and very much enjoy being able to share them with our guests.

Be sure to visit if you should be passing through our area!

We loved our 5 night stay at Las Ranas and it was our favourite place that we stayed on our Costa Rican adventure. We didn't have a car and so did end spending on taxis but we still felt that it was worth the extra costs of the taxis to stay here. (there is never any problem finding a taxi in Samara and they are all very fair on their prices). The lodge is up a hill with stunning views out over the Pacific. The rooms are tastefully decorated and we had a balcony that felt incredibly private. We had amazing views right from bed. The pool is great - perfect for sunbathing by at the start or end of the day and dipping into the pool. The bathrooms are lovely too. Cody, the owner is great - friendly, relaxed, full of info if you need it and happy to help with whatever you need. The rest of the staff are equally friendly and welcoming. It all contributed to a fantastic few days in Samara. We loved Samara also - a very relaxing beach town, perfect for pottering around, sampling the various restaurants. Thank you Cody and the team for a wonderful stay - we wish we could be back at las Ranas right now!

Room Tip: Ask Cody for a room with a Pacfic room - its definitely worth it!

Fantastic stay at Lodge Las Ranas. While looking for an out of the way surf spot, I got my little 4 x 4 rental car stuck in the mud on an out of the way dirt road. Oops! I called Cody, the owner of Lodge Las Ranas, looking for advice on who to call...no AAA!!! About 45 minutes later Cody himself arrives and with the help of another local hotel owner managed to pull the car out of 2 feet of mud. Now THAT is service! Thank you so much, Cody. The Lodge is wonderful, serene and was a great place to return to every evening after exploring the far reaches of Nicoya's beauty. I'll be back.

Nice lodge with cosy rooms. The rooms are clean, the bathroom is nice and It has a great view. The balcony is really suitable to read after a beach day. A lot of wild animals to see around the lodge. Don't forget to bring mosquitospray. The pool is nothing fancy, but it doesn't mind because you go here for the beach.
