“Peaceful hotel”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Is the perfect place, it’s quiet, relaxing, very helpful staff, a lot of animals, birds, nature. It has all that you need to have the best time in Samara.

It’s a bit far from downtown, but no so far, it’s about a 1Km, actually, this is something really good, because you won’t bothered by the noise of the ATV’s, cars, or other people.

The rooms are very nice and clean, you will find a fridge, internet access, comfortable bed, nice bathroom, but there is no TV (I don’t need it anyways).
The pool is great, very clean, I think is the best place after the sunset. The breakfast is really good, coffee was great!

I’m looking forward to go again to this magical and peaceful place. Highly recommended.

This hotel is awesomely situated on a hill on the outskirts of the town of Samara and has beautiful views of the beach and ocean. If you have a car (its probably a bit of a walk to the town) it is worth it for the location and the quiet atmosphere.

The grounds are beautiful and the room (at least the one we stayed in) was beautifully outfitted with a four poster bed with air conditioning. No tv, but we were on vacation and spent a lot of time in the pool and lounging beside it reading.

What tops it off though is Cody, the hotel manager. From the easy way we booked and confirmed our hotel I knew we had found a winner. Cody is a Canadian expat, so those wanting to make sure someone speaks english, that is no problem. Cody met us and checked us in, and took care of everything we needed, from food to tours and recommendations. The whole experience was what you would want from a vacation.

I wanted to mention about the other guests at the hotel when we stayed there. One American vacations every year in Costa Rica, but only to this hotel. The other was a family that owned a house in Playa Tamarindo Costa Rica, but preferred to get away from the touristy area to here for a real holiday each year.

We would stay here again without thinking twice!

My fiance and I stayed here the for 3 nights at the end of August/Sept of 2012. This is considered the low season in CR so the hotel was not to capacity. Its a small hotel with just ten rooms. We stayed in a room with a view of both the jungle and the ocean. It was beautiful view and quite a romantic room with a four poster bed and balcony. My favorite part was the balcony! The room itself was basic in terms of amenities, no TV or hair dryer. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked great, and the shower pressure was strong. The only thing that bugged me (literally) were each night there were ants in our room in one specific corner, not one or two and not a hundred but enough that it annoyed me. The last night we asked for bug spray and Walter came and sprayed. It wasn't a big deal for my fiance and considering we were in a jungle I can't complain. Each morning we woke up to the sound of birds and howler monkeys which was awesome. The hotel is set away from the beach, its about 20 minute walk to town/beach or 5 minute drive. We didn't rent a car but we're a young couple who enjoyed the walk to town in the morning and caught a cab in the PM back to the hotel. The hotel itself is up a very steep hill. The restaurant opened regularly for breakfast and it was tasty. The included breakfast offered was typical Costa Rican fare which included gallo pinto, eggs, toast, orange juice, coffee and fruit. If you wanted a breakfast meat like bacon or sausge it was at an additional cost. They also have a la carte items you can order if you don't want the Costa Rican breakfast. The restaurant didn't serve a regular lunch/dinner but with the town being right there that worked out fine. We ate in town at a few places, our favorite being El Lagarto. The staff at the hotel are really what make the place glow, Esterlin and Cody were helpful in every way possible and just generally friendly folks who we enjoyed being around. If I were to go back to Playa Samara I would definitely stay at this place again.

Hello Vitannie,

I would like to take the time to thank you on behalf of the entire staff from Lodge Las Ranas for the wonderful review. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed our location and the many wonderful things Costa Rica has to answer. Being surrounded by jungle on all sides means there are animals, birds and at times ants. We do all that we can to keep these instances to a minimum. They can be tricky from time to time and a few of them seem to have made it into your room. We apologize for this and I thank you for your understanding.

We hope that you do make it back to Playa Samara and we look forward to having you stay with us again.

Pura Vida,

Cody Nikolaychuk

My fiance and I made our reservation here based mostly on previous tripadvisor reviews, and we were sure glad we did! We had a beautiful room with a view of the water. The hotel is on a hill which makes for a beautiful view. Cody and the rest of the staff were extremely kind and helpful. One night, we got some take out from a local restaurant so that we could eat with the view, and Cody was nice enough to set up a full service table for us in the dining area, candlelit and all. Samara itself is a smaller town which was really nice. We took a drive down to Playa Carillo (5km away) and basically had the beach to ourselves. I cannot say enough good things about Lodge Las Ranas. The only comments I have when you stay here - 1) Most of the suggestions for restaurants were American Style restaurants - be sure to ask about the local cuisine! 2) Make sure you look at what to do the day before. We tried to do some activities but didn't think to call until after breakfast when most of the tours had left. 3) Stay a while! It's lovely!

Room Tip: Ask for room 2 - it has the best view!

Everything was great! The staff, the food, the rooms, the amazing views were awesome. We stayed 2 nights but wished we could've stayed a lot longer! We woke up to howler monkeys and crazy bird noises every morning. We rented a scooter in town on our second day there and drove to Carillo. I would recommend the little animal refuge there. The lady was so nice and she has many interesting animals including a sloth and a kinkajou ;) thank you Cody, Sterling and the rest of Las Ranas staff for making our trip a relaxing and memorable experience! No worries, this is simply the best place to stay in Samara. Run by Cody and assisted by his mom who was visiting when we were there. Both of them extremely pleasant and also supported by a well trained helpfull local team. Ask for the papaya or any kind of exoctic fresh juice at breakfast and they will get it for you. The hotel also attracts nice and interesting international oriented guests so always time for a nice chat. If you like a white sanded 1km beach with just you and some pelicans just ask Cody for Barigona. Enjoy your stay.

so this was our introduction to BEAUTIFUL Costa Rica and what an amazing way to begin. We arrived at this beautiful hotel, which is about four minutes away from Samara. The road leading up creates a really cool ambiance and when you arrive at to the top - you see the lodge. the rooms were great and clean, and as we were traveling with our 11 month infant, the place provided us with the crib we had requested. the staff were Super friendly and were quick to answer any question we might have had. the breakfast was tasty (our baby fell in love with the pancakes:)) this was a great experience and we are planning to return in the future.
