Everything was great! The staff, the food, the rooms, the amazing views were awesome. We stayed 2 nights but wished we could've stayed a lot longer! We woke up to howler monkeys and crazy bird noises every morning. We rented a scooter in town on our second day there and drove to Carillo. I would recommend the little animal refuge there. The lady was so nice and she has many interesting animals including a sloth and a kinkajou ;) thank you Cody, Sterling and the rest of Las Ranas staff for making our trip a relaxing and memorable experience! Love from Lubbock, TX

No worries, this is simply the best place to stay in Samara. Run by Cody and assisted by his mom who was visiting when we were there. Both of them extremely pleasant and also supported by a well trained helpfull local team. Ask for the papaya or any kind of exoctic fresh juice at breakfast and they will get it for you. The hotel also attracts nice and interesting international oriented guests so always time for a nice chat. If you like a white sanded 1km beach with just you and some pelicans just ask Cody for Barigona. Enjoy your stay.

so this was our introduction to BEAUTIFUL Costa Rica and what an amazing way to begin. We arrived at this beautiful hotel, which is about four minutes away from Samara. The road leading up creates a really cool ambiance and when you arrive at to the top - you see the lodge. the rooms were great and clean, and as we were traveling with our 11 month infant, the place provided us with the crib we had requested. the staff were Super friendly and were quick to answer any question we might have had. the breakfast was tasty (our baby fell in love with the pancakes:)) this was a great experience and we are planning to return in the future.

Lodge Las Ranas was exactly what we were looking for; just down the road from town, so it was nice and quiet. Beautiful views from the room, tons of wildlife, and so peaceful. There's not much to say that other reviewers haven't already said - stay here - it's amazing!

Room Tip: Room #5 had incredible panoramic views of the beach and forest.

I seriously want to live here! It's in a great spot, on the side of a small mountain with lots of surrounding jungle and a beach view. The owner, Cody, was very personable and greeted us everyday. Sterling was also very helpful in giving us a local map and letting us know his recommendations for food as soon as we got there. The room was great and clean and just what we needed. We rented a car, and it was a good move, as it's a little outside of the town, with a steep driveway. If you don't rent a car, a taxi would be the best way to get back and forth, although you can walk ( only about 20 minutes by foot, but it gets dark early). The gallo pinto with breakfast was the best we had during our entire stay and was included in the cost of the room (along with fruit, eggs coffee and toast). I would not stay anywhere else, and was very glad we choose this hotel for our stay!

My husband, daughter, and I loved staying at Las Ranas overlooking Samara Beach. Our balcony had a fantastic view of the beach and the service was excellent. Esterling, the desk clerk, was very cheerful and helpful. The cab ride into town was inexpensive and the drivers arrived promptly. It was enjoyable being up on the hill above town not only because it was relaxing but because we were able to see the monkeys and tucans up close. We can't wait to go back.

This is such a special hotel. And I think really unbeatable for the price. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we researched quite a bit before leaving and were so happy upon arrival we picked Playa Samara and Lodge Las Ranas. Samara is an easy 2 hour drive from the Liberia airport along a nice paved road. It was an awesome beach town, very safe, lots of nice bars and restaurants along the beach. Great for swimming and surfing. We loved being a few minutes outside of everything though. It's a maybe 4 minute drive (the hotel can arrange taxis, we rented a car which I'd probably recommend) or a 20 minute walk. You can also arrange a bike rental. We loved coming back to our peaceful hotel in the hills every afternoon after a long day at the beach. The hotel itself is gorgeous, there are howler monkeys and birds and lizards. The pool is amazing as is the big open air restaurant which serves a yummy free breakfast in the morning. The rooms themselves are really lovely and simple. The bed was very comfy and clean (I'm somewhat picky about this and it was great), the a/c worked well but between several big windows and a nice ceiling fan we hardly used it. The rooms have no TV or phone: a plus in my book. And beautiful balconies. We'd have a beer and watch the sun setting while listening to the howler monkeys and birds. I've stayed in hotels three times the price I didn't like as much. Really a perfect getaway, couldn't have asked for anything more.
