Just got back from an 8 day stay with my 17 year old daughter...we stayed in the treetop suite and LOVED it!!! Brandon and Lila are totally cool and very sincere people and run a top rate establishment...from the delicious breakfasts to the fresh flowers in our room..the individual attention was heartfelt. Also, anything we asked about from quad rentals, canopy tours, hang gliding to a tattoo specialist in town Brandon always got us the information we needed and then some. Samara is an amazing, beautiful and unique town and Entre Dos Aguas is a bonus point...staying anywhere else just doesn't make sense...the price, quality, atmosphere and the great individual attention rocks big time. We are definitely going back next year !!!! Oh, and if you get a chance definitely get a massage from Todd...Brandon booked it for us and Todd came to our room...I work and live in NYC and have had a number of good massages but he was most definitely the BEST massage I've ever had...and at $35 an hour? A bit of heaven on earth....best vacation EVER!!!

If you can deal with a room of over 90 degrees F when you go to bed at night this is the place for you. The rooms are aesthetically pleasing. The common areas are very comfortable and the grounds/garden/pool are lovely. My room was upstairs and it could not be changed. The fact that I was not happy did not seem important. The owners seemed distant, perhaps unhappy. The charge of $10 for a load of laundry that could be done down the block for $5, and the charge for every time you took a beach towel did not feel good. The place really is lovely and it really is a good price and location. It's just too hot w/o a/c., I met a couple in town after I moved out who had also left and felt the same. The fact that several elderly couples come for multiple weeks each year, makes one feel like a bit of an outsider. If the owners want to attract more guests, my suggestion is that they install air conditioning, raise their prices about 25% and smile.

From reading the reviews here I expected clean, basic rooms and "efficient" service. What greeted us was much more wonderful!

So many plusses to this place:

- firstly, Brandon, one of the owners, really made our stay truly enjoyable. Aside from being a generally nice guy, he really pays attention to what his guests say and offers meaningful help, not just the typical vague "let me know if you need anything else". E.g., when he heard that DH had a tummy bug, he let us know he had Immodium if we needed it - which we took him up on later that evening; the next day he asked if DH just wanted toast for breakie; and later told us about a Dr. in town who could probably help DH's situation so we could just enjoy our vacation.

He took time to chat but was not intrusive, always answered our questions and gave some interesting insights on Costa Rica. His laid back nature was much appreciated. We had to switch rooms halfway through our stay and tho he had to juggle 3 sets of guests moving btwn 2 rooms (exiting ones, us and the incoming ones) and the staff to get the rooms cleaned, it wasn't a big deal.

Perhaps the earlier comments about the owners being aloof were just misunderstandings. Brandon seemed to be working all the time - I felt bad for him! While we were resting in the common area, he was installing piping/hosing in the lush garden grounds. Whether doing breakfast, helping guests or working on the property, he was kept quite busy; perhaps moreso as his wife was not feeling well during our stay (we never met her).

He really saved the day when our driver bailed on us less than 12 hours before we were to leave for our flights out of SJO. We were shocked when we found out on the afternoon of Christmas that the driver could not make it. We needed to leave Samara at 6am the next day to make our flight and without an early bus running on Sunday, at the moment I was told I racked my brain for non-existent options. Immediately after telling us our driver had to cancel, Brandon suggested he could call and see if he could find someone for us. Tho slightly more expensive, 10 minutes later we could relax and and enjoy our Tico time again knowing a driver would get us there in time for our flights.

- we anticipated eating out and savoring Costa Rican food but it turned out to be very handy to have dishware, cutlery and hot water available so we could make some packaged chicken broth soup. We caught a tummy bug and were not up to eating anything but some soup and crackers one day.

- breakfasts were tasty and plentiful, especially fab was the fruit plate: three of papaya, watermelon, banana or pineapple.

We were there on Christmas Day and one of the kitchen staff brought in extra tamales from home - her family's traditional recipe - for people to try for breakfast. How lovely - this only happens in places where you enjoy where you're working. DH thought they were excellent.

- the central guest fridge is well set up with each room having a Rubbermaid of varying size in which to store their goodies. It was great not to waste our excellent paella leftovers (from Las Brasas) and have it for lunch the next day.

- rooms were clean and even the standard room was spacious. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of creepy crawlies. As others have noted, the showers are wonderful, esp. the one in the larger room.

- the common area with swing and rocking chairs and hammocks ended up being a respite for us as we needed to be near our room but wanted to be out of it as well. With reliable wi-fi, reference books to borrow and magazines to page thru, it was easy to pass an afternoon. Leave your recent and interesting magazines here!

- even tho we couldn't communicate very much the cleaning staff were always friendly. Finding daily "towel animals" or displays on our beds was a happy treat. Ensure you have small denominations so you can leave them a daily tip.

There's a well-stocked, small supermarket very close to the hotel. If you stand in front of the hotel and look past the bus stop across the road, and look down the sidestreet you can see it. Just a couple minutes walk. When the Immodium was unable to work its magic, I went to the supermarket and asked if they had any remedies. They sold me a few foil-wrapped blue pills which seemed to work a bit better for DH. When I caught the tummy bug a couple of days later, the pills were also effective. However, we switched to bottle water at about the same time so am unsure whether our recovery was due to the water switch or the blue pills.

The only "con" for this place is that the rooms may be noisy from both indoor and outdoor animals. Not feeling well, we took an afternoon nap one day and we left our windows open for air circulation and other chatting guests walking by sounded like they were right in our ears. They were loud but not shouting - just the nature of having a family be excited about being there. Still when it continued for a couple of minutes, as they chatted from their room to others on the stairwell, I went out and let them know we were trying to sleep and they good naturedly made an effort to speak quietly. My suggestion is just to be mindful that there are others sharing the hotel too.

The other noise is from the locals: many birds and monkeys provide the wake up call! During the day, the monkeys were a particular highlight as many swung by on the trees on what was dubbed the monkey highway. A few have been around humans from young and would come and visit and play. This was amazing interaction! However, before I knew this, imagine my surprise on the first day while I was alone in the common area and a monkey came up and started touching my arm and climbing up my leg - I was apprehensive!

To witness the monkey interaction, including a momma and her baby, would be enough to bring me back to this hotel. However, even without that, this would be our choice of where to stay on our next visit.

cheers,

This is a delightful hotel just a few minutes walk from the village of Samara and the beach. There is a lovely garden with pool, sunbeds and a shady area with comfy hammocks. It is all very relaxed. Lilah and Brandon's pets wander around making everyone feel at home. Delicious breakfast and Brandon was really helpful organising tours. Highly recommended and great value - can't wait to return

Dos Aguas is a nice place to spend your time. Yes, you can probably find somewhere less expensive, but this place will be were you find yourself if you want a bit of distance from the party noises of the town and the cars speeding in and out of town. The owners (new since 2008?) were helpful - american, spoke english and spanish - and always one of them there.

Entre Dos Aguas is an unbelievable hotel! We stayed at the hotel for over a month and lived in Samara for over two months. If you are thinking about traveling Samara, book your room at Entre Dos Aguas and let the relaxation begin!

From the spacious, clean, and gorgeous rooms with amazing handmade showers to the incredible location to the owners to the secluded pool to the wonderful breakfast served each morning, Entre Dos Aguas is an enchanted paradise.

I travel a lot. This is not only the best hotel in Playa Samara, it is one of the best hotels I have stayed in the world.

The rooms are wonderful. Spacious, clean and airy, with great wood beds and unbelievable showers.

The location is perfect and the best of both worlds. The hotel is secluded in the middle of a tropical rainforest (monkeys frequently visit during lunch) and away from the hustle and bustle of traffic, and it is also steps to the center of downtown and the beach. Entre Dos Aguas has a wonderful pool that makes you feel like you are a swimming in the middle of the jungle.

Most importantly, the owners, Brandon and Lilah, are the most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. Whatever we needed, they were so eager to help. Whether it is dinner recommendations, activities, travel plans, or surf rentals Brandon and Lilah made our stay in Samara unmeasurably easier and more fulfilling.

I really cannot say enough about this wonderful hotel. Entre Dos Aguas is a must-stay in Samara. It is a wonderful experience unto itself

After 3 weeks of low to mid-range budget travel, our stay at Dos Aguas struck us as overpriced. Clean rooms with a private bathroom and a pool certainly merit mid-range pricing, but charging for beach towel rental and generally being stingy in meeting requests left a bad taste in our mouth. We found plenty of hotels offering the same amenities for at least 10 dollars less. Were the owners more welcoming and less indifferent to their patrons, perhaps we could have overlooked the pricing. We will not be returning to Entre Dos Aguas.
