“Literally perfect”
Reviewed August 18, 2014 via mobile

We arrived in Samara having alternative accommodation booked but after a nightmare situation with this, found ourselves walking through the town at night trying to find an alternative. We were extremely lucky that there was one room free at the Treehouse Inn for the length of our stay and were made to feel very well by the night porter Victor. On waking up the next morning we realised exactly just how lucky we really had been. The room came with private patio area (on which a large and lovely breakfast as served), beach towels in the room and private loungers just through on the beach. This meant there were no worries about what to do with valuables etc, you just leave them in your room. There was also a shop directly opposite the road entrance and a lovely selection of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk along the beach. It was also right next to a super friendly surf hire place (C & C). The AC in the room was really good and the bed had a mosquito net. Really, I couldn't find a single way to improve this place and was extremely sorry to leave!

On our trip, we traveled to Arenal, Samara and Montezuma. Samara and the Tree House Inn was very best and most memorable part of our trip, hands down. In fact, it is the one place we have already discussed coming back to. We would stay no other place than at the Samara Tree House Inn, as no other hotel in town comes close to what this hotel offers. It is located smack dab on the beach, steps away from the small town, with several great beach front restaurants within a hundred yards on either side. The surf school is right next door. There is a grocery store with everything one needs right across the street which was perfect. The hotel itself is quaint, unique and homey, and the small pool is great for a dip. We are a family of four, traveling with 2 young adult daughters, so we decided to get one beach front room, as well as one of the pool side rooms so we would have two bathrooms and ample space for the 4 of us. That was a great choice. We felt that the beach front room would have been too small for 4 adults. It had one room with a queen bed, and in the front room were two day beds. One of the day-beds is full sized and an adult can sleep on it, but the other one is not long enough for an adult - it would be OK for a child. There is a charming patio underneath the tall rooms, which was perfect. Had we stayed more than 3 days, we would have made use of the bar-b-q for sure. The staff was absolutely accommodating, friendly and helpful! Francesca was the best! The lack of air conditioning in the ocean front rooms was noticeable, and that would be my only complaint. Luckily we had a nice breeze that came up 2 of the 3 nights, making those nights quite nice. There was A/C in the room by the pool, and the girls were very happy about that. Yes, our only wish to the owners would be that they opt to put in A/C in the front units before we come back next year! 10 out of 10 gold stars without a doubt, and WE WILL come back again!

Room Tip: The 4 beach front rooms are the most unique and are literally right on the sand. Number 3 has the mo...

Thank you so much for the great review! We have considered putting AC units in the beachfront rooms, but we also have many guests who say that they love the big windows and the ocean breezes, so we have not done that yet. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Treehouse, and hope to welcome you back again in the future! Warm regards, Heidi

We got a slightly cool welcome, but were allowed to check in a few hours early in the poolside cabin (to the left of the entrance). The service from the staff thereafter was excellent. We had some trouble with the toilet, which needed some careful attention to avoid flooding. Also, the breakfasts were underwhelming for the price range of the hotel. On the other hand, the beachside location was totally awesome and, in the end, we would go back there.

Room Tip: If you can sleep with fans, I'd go with the beachside cabins.

The moment we pulled up, I knew this was someplace truly special. Four rough hewn "tree houses" on stilts overlook the ocean, a small pool perfect for dipping, and an additional suite that was a welcoming chill chamber after a day in the sun. We loved everything about this place. Breakfast each morning was delicious and coffee was generous. The location allowed for early morning walks on the beach in pajamas, & opportunities to explore every nook & cranny of "downtown" Samara.

Room Tip: I envied the guests that stayed in the tree houses on stilts but heard they were a bit warm at night...

We loved Samara and this spot: right on the beach, great coffee and breakfast, clean rooms, beautiful and well maintained buildings. Spacious and gorgeous. The outdoor patio areas for each room really surprised us - quite a luxury. We walked all over town and were pleased at how many restaurants were right down the beach, which is great for swimming and body boarding. We met both locals and ex-pats from a variety of places.

I stayed at Samara Tree house Inn with a group of 7 friends. The staff is absolutely incredible at this place. Francesca goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is having a great time. Pool is nice and you will find crabs jumping into it every night. Staff cleans them out every morning. There are bugs everywhere but its because of where you are located and the way the place is built. And i DO NOT mean roaches or anything gross. The bugs didn't bother me and normally they freak me out. We slept with our AC on high every night to keep the mosquitoes at bay. We were here during the rainy season and did experience high wind and rains. If you are coming during this season just be aware that there isn't really a communal area to hang out in that is covered. We were under one of the tree houses eating area and because of the high winds were still getting wet. The door to my room had a 1 inch gap. This was where most of the bugs made their way in and also the reason my room flooded. The gutter directly outside my door was broken and the water pouring out was flowing right into my room. Luckily I noticed right away and was able to get everything off of the floor quickly and Francesca and I were able to do some quick damage control. I made the morning staff aware of the gutter problem and they immediately went to work to fix and clean the gutters. Another room had an AC issue which they tried to to fix but I don't think they were able to before we left. Also all of the rooms had toilet issues. This is more of a Costa Rica problem, especially in the Samara area. No one had complaints abut the food everything we had was delicious. It is a little annoying to have to constantly guard your food against bugs but I have one suggestion for the owner, At every table set up a stand up fan. Keeping the fan on while we are eating will keep the bugs away! One person in our group brought back a fish he caught and the staff cooked it for us and it was AMAZING. So if you are used to high luxury and amenities this isn't the place for you to stay. But if you want to be ridiculously close to the beach and see one of the most beautiful places on earth where horses still run wild stay here. I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: It is a very small intimate hotel. It was only loud because my group was loud! The general vibe of t...

We were in paradise! The stuff is AMAZING and very polite! I was sting by a stingray and everyone was so nice running to help me! I didn't feel helpless for a sec! We ended up laughing about it!
We cherished every moment! The view from the top house is the best thing you can have! The ground room it's not bad either, though! We didn't want to leave...

Room Tip: Choose the second to the left tree house! The view is better as the tree doesn't block it!
