“THE place to stay in Samara”
Reviewed May 15, 2008

Casistas Laz Divaz is THE place to stay in Samara!!! Not only is the location postcard perfect, right on the beach with your own hammock strung between swaying palm trees, but the hostess Divas make it really special.
Run by Sara and Beret, who are both talented in wood carving their own furniture (Beret is an Architect) and both passionate about conservation. These ladies were fascinating to talk to on all topics, really helpful and they made my stay really special.
Travelling as a woman alone, I was somewhat nervous, however Casitas Laz Divas is so relaxed and Sara and Beret are on hand to help with any information on the area, we frequently met for a beer on the beach at sunset.........very civilised!!!
Anybody who has a keen interest in birds and wildlife will benefit from staying here as both ladies are knowledgable on the wildlife of the area and more than happy to share their knowledge, this is a photographers dream.
To sum it up, peace and quiete, beautiful sunset beach and great hosts, if you are going to Samara this is the place to stay, Ive gained two friends in meeting Sara and Beret :)

Casitas LazDivaz is the one. My wife and I spent a week with Sara and Berit in early December and I'm happy we picked the B+B that we did. If you're looking to relax on the beach for a while, and generally enjoy the sun then Playa Samara is the place for you.
As my title implies, this place is in the right spot. Right on the beach listening to the waves roll in, ghostly sounding howler monkeys grunting at night and birds chattering all day, you can forget that you are only a 7 minute walk along the beach to the centre of town. Breakfast is served every morning looking out on coconut palms and the Pacific Ocean(My favourite was the omlette, and for my wife the Gallina Pintada). Our Casita "Marlene Dietrich" was very stylishly finished with exposed teak construction and was always clean.
Our days were spent Lying on the hammocks strung in the palms, taking surfing lessons at C&C, Birding with Sara in the mornings or walking with her to the manglar swamp to see what the Divaz are try to help perserve.
If you need AC or a TV to zone out to this may not be right, but for us the ocean breeze and ceiling fan was more than cool enough.

I stayed here for four nights with my boyfriend. This was a great place -- right on the beach, well-maintained and modern casitas, and run by two great hosts, Sara and Berit. The casitas are located next to Jesse's Surf Shop (perfect for learning how to surf) and a few minutes down the beach from all the "action" in the quiet town. This is the perfect place to stay if you want privacy, tranquility, and especially if you want to learn more about recent developments in the Guanacaste since Sara and Berit are highly involved with environmental and other issues in the community. We had a great stay - relaxing, comfortable, and gorgeous beach.

We chose this B&B based on previous reviews and its closeness to the beach. Talk about close! You can hear the waves from your cottage. The cottages are cute and very clean and comfortable. The owners string two hammocks on the beach each morning, which is where I ended up after the delicious breakfast. The beach is beautiful and not very crowded. It was a great beach to run on. There is a surfing school right next door and the waves are perfect for beginners. The owners were wonderful and very friendly, and their recommendations for local restaurants were excellent. We only stayed 2 nights at LazDivaz; I wish we had stayed more. Definitely on the list for next year!

If you're looking for the ultimate beach cottage, this could be it. Located right on Samara beach these unique little Casitas offer comfortable beds and private baths decorated in eclectic style. You can hear the surf from your bed. Sara and Berit, the proprietors, are knowledgeable about the area and are concerned environmentalists. They were excellent sources of information, and were willing to go the extra mile to make reservations and recommend activities. Every morning the hammocks were strung between the palms and the coffee was strong and plentiful. To top it all off they made a divine french toast for breakfast. We've stayed at many B&B's and this one is top notch.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Tina Turner Casita at Sara and Berit's B&B over the Christmas 2006 holiday. We had a fantastic time. This is truly an epic place. You are so close to the ocean that you can practically feel the spray at all hours. During the day you can sit on the porch and watch two iguanas battle over a tree branch. At night you can hear the crashing waves. We spent a lot of time surfing, hammocking, and sunset watching. Oh, and I proposed. She said yes I think. So basically, if you stay at the Tina Turner Casita, you might propose to someone. It's that kind of place.

  • Liked — This really is the prettiest place in Samara. Sara and Berit, the owners, are very knowledgable, helpful, and fun.
  • Disliked — General comment about Costa Rica: It is a tropical country. There are lots of bugs that bite. Costal areas are no exception. No-see-ums are a big problem.
  • Tips/Secrets — No-see-ums are small enought to fly through most window screens. DEET will not stop them, but other protections exist. Find them. Use them.

Sara and Berit totally spoil you when you are there. They treat you like a long lost old friend and go out of their way to make sure any needs you may have are met. The location is idyllic right on the prettiest stretch of the beach. It's a place to get away from it all and totally relax. The Divaz do everything to help you achieve this. They string up hammocks between coconut palms on the beach for you to lounge in while you drink from your fresh coconut or beer from your personal cooler. The breakfast is an epic masterpiece which includes 5 varieties of tropical fruit and a choice of homemade pancakes, omelette, French toast etc. taken in the rancho (an open air thatched patio) facing the surf and beach. The Cabañas themselves rock. They are so comfy and well appointed with everything you would need. Kiri , Katy and Mimi are there to look after you too. What's great is that you have your privacy but you can also catch the sunset on the beach for cocktail hour with the Divaz and it's just a short walk down the beach for all the bars and restaurants which you can then leave for the calm and tranquillity of Laz Divaz when you've had your fill. Sara and Berit have a wealth of knowledge about the area. They know all the great restaurants and places for drinks and we had fabulous meals every night. Laz Divaz is the best place to stay in Samara. It's right on the beach. It's not smack in the centre of town but it's close enough that you are only a 10-5 minute walk from the main bars and restaurants. The Cabañas are spotless and a home from home. Plus you can feel good about your stay there. Both Sara and Berit are very active in the community and do a lot of campaigning to save the natural resources and preserve the environment around Samara and they run a green/eco friendly establishment. They are great people trying to do a lot of good and they treat their guests like kings and queens. My husband and I had a wonderful romantic time there and would go back in a minute. Laz Divaz are the best!
