Just returned from a stay at El Gauchito (the house rented from Villas Kalimba). The grounds and house do not make a good first impression. The bed linens were old and faded looking. There were weeds near the pool. The house was boiling upon arrival. There is only air conditioning in the bedrooms. My general feeling was that the whole house could use a good scrub. If you don't plan on spending much time here, it will be fine. The pool, though small, was a welcome refuge at the end of each day. The house is well equipped with appliances, dishes, and cooking utensils. Roberto, the owner. is very helpful. Overall, as the title indicates, with a little sprucing up this house could be a very nice place.

Ciao We are sorry that you don’t find El Gauchito, so nice as other people did...we try our best to do a good service and to try that our guest have a good memory of their vacation.
Is not an excuse but since few month El Gauchito is not any more ours, we just continuo till end of April to manage as we already had some reservation done before to sell.
We hope that you will be our guest next time in Kalimba where we directly manage the property.
Thanks and take care
Roberto

My husband stayed at Villas Kalimba from Feb 26-28th.

Our Villa was spacious, very clean and cozy throughout. The kitchen comes with full sized appliances, blender, and coffee maker (coffee not supplied)
The bedroom was a good size and had great storage space. The bathroom was well stocked with good water pressure and temperature.

The honour bar in the shared dining room was a great touch and made it easy to grab a water before the beach or a beer at the end of the night.

The hotel is located steps away from the beach and is extremely close to places to eat and a mini mart.
The pool is refreshing after laying out on the beautiful beach and swimming in the ocean

Roberto was incredibly friendly and an amazing chef. He doesn't cook every night but we had the opportunity while we were there to have a beautiful seafood dinner. The appetizers, small individual portions of many different types of fresh seafood, were some of the best I have ever had.

Overall we enjoyed every second at Villas Kalimba and I will return given the chance. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and went out of their way to help us with recommendations of things to do or a phone charger.

My husband and I just returned from a lovely stay in Playa Samara and the Villas Kalimba. From our first contact with the villa it was apparent that Roberto, Diego and the rest of the Kalimba family made us a priority by quickly responded to our questions and working with us when we arrived a day late due to an aircraft malfunction and missed flight. We stayed in villa #7 which was perfect for us, one bedroom with (great A/C) and a firm yet comfortable bed, bath with large shower, a living area indoors and a small kitchen with a toaster, blender, coffee maker, refrigerator (with ice trays) and freezer, a range, and microwave. The kitchen comes equipped with the basics including table settings and pots/pans, plus wine opener. You will need to supply your own coffee although plenty of spices were available for cooking. In addition to and more importantly, all of the cabinas have a lovely outdoor living space with table and chairs for eating, and of course a hammock for snoozing or reading. The Villas has all of the amenities of home in a beautiful setting and perfect location, literally only steps to the beach and restaurants. Roberto and Diego as well as the rest of the staff are always ready with a smile and advice to make your vacation perfect. A few things you should know about the location and villas up front to improve your experience or make a decision.

1. The chairs in the outdoor living spaces of the villas cabinas are all wood and can be a little uncomfortable.
2. Bring a beach blanket. There are very few chair rentals places on the beach and although the Villas have beach chairs, they are fairly worn and not very stable and there are only a few.
3. Roberto is a fantastic cook – if you should have the opportunity to enjoy one of his homemade Italian dinners (do). A couple things you should know up front – this is a typical Italian dining experience so there are multiple courses and it is an evening affair (don’t be in a rush). And finally you should know that it is a relatively expensive event so make sure that it is within your budget.
4. Roberto can book your tours for you. Just be sure to get with him immediately on arrival to let him know what you want to do so that he has plenty of time to work it out with the tour people that he works with.
5. Breakfast at the Villas is $10 per person (fresh fruit plate / two eggs / toast)
6. Do visit Playa Carillo, the next beach over. Beautiful!
7. The local bus runs about every hour and costs around 400 Colones per person and will take you from Playa Samara to Playa Carillo.
8. Buy a sub sandwich or get lunch before your get to the airport for your return flight – it is $6 dollars for a Pepsi and $13 dollars for a slice of pizza or sub sandwich at the Liberia airport once through security.

Room Tip: All cabinas are lovely.

The photos are real, the location is great, the owner is charming (and a great cook) and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Samara is a nice, out of the way place that is laid back and casual and we found it to be quiet and peaceful too. Villas Kalimba is close to everything... next time we wont even rent a car. And there will be a next time. For a small property you don't lack for anything and there is a sense of privacy that makes it feel like a little oasis... with a beautiful beach just across the street. Great value and worth the trip. Bravo Roberto!

Room Tip: We stayed in Villa #3 and really enjoyed it.

We had our wedding at Villas Kalimba on Feb 4th and it was the perfect spot. We loved all the villas, especially the Kamar house, where our whole family stayed for the wedding. We were travelling with a group of 20 people and a baby....the house has big spacious ooms with comfy king sized beds and their own bathroom. Very private for each couple, surrounding a large kitchen and covered outdoor patio. The pool is beautiful and they keep very clean daily. The kitchen has a variety of utensils making it easy to cook for yourself. We had our wedding on the beach and our reception at the restaurant where ROBERTO cooked the most fabulous italian meal on earth!!!! Roberto made us a delicious wedding cake as a gift, it was very touching and delicious. The whole staff was very helpful and accommodating, especially helping us plan and set of for the wedding, helping us plan and organize shuttles and transportation all around. They picked us all up at the airport and brought us the 2 hour drive from (liberia) to playa samara. Villas Kalimba is in a great location to the town, there is a small path right across the road and you are on the beach, you are a small 4 min walk down the street to all the restaurants and bars, but far enough away that you don't hear music pounding away all night. The property is very safe, everything is gated with wire fencing at the top. If you are fortunate enough to stay at Villas Kalimba, you must have a dinner cooked by roberto it is amazing!!

We can not wait to go back!! This is a little slice of heaven on earth! Enjoy...

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Kamar house!!

I was in Costa Rica for a vacation to rest and relax. This was my first time in Samara and the beach is beautiful and it was uncrowded. My stay at Villa Kalimba was truly perfect. The 2 different houses that I stayed in were immaculate as were the grounds. The owner Roberto is a fabulous cook as well as most attentive to our comfort. This was greatly appreciated. Also another guest pointed out that he has been there a number of times and the staff is always the same. The staff was exceptionally helpful and very pleasant. I am looking forward to returning.

I stayed during 3 nights in February at VIlla Bruga with my family , we decided to visit Sámara for our summer vacations and due to obvious reasons we decided return to Kalimba.
The hospitality and customer service orientation from staff, cleanliness, details and security in the villa, contributed to have a pleasant family time in the beach. I would like to motivate you to visit Sámara and enjoy this nice place.
