We planed to stay in Samara just 2 days, but we fell in love with this place. The houses around to pool give you privacy but at the same time you can drink a beer while the kids are swimming in the pool Under you surveillance. The beach is just next door and there a small supermarket 2 houses away on you way to the beach. The town of Samara is just 2 minutes walk from the hotel and there's a wonderful beach restaurant in front of the hotel. If you don't want to move, relax, enjoy a nice family experience, have happy kids swimming and playing in the pool while you sit on your own terrace and get away from the tourists, this is the place to choose...

Room Tip: There's also a huge house next to the villas. If you are a lot and if you have kids, pick up this wonderful house with 5 bedrooms and a pool!

We began our journey at a health and wellness center that was a huge disappointment We had spent a lot of $$$$ to go somewhere that seemed to know less than us.

But alas this review is about Roberto and his sanctuary called the Villas Kalimba. First and foremost this is Italian/Costa Rican hospitality at its very best. Roberto has an amazing way of making folks from varied backgrounds and countries feel instantly at home. We came to CR to relax eat healthy and have fun exercise. With a nice pool we can exercise right here and the dry forest is less than a 10 minute walk swimming while watching monkeys play in the trees above is paradise for us.

While we were not necessarily looking for low cost accommodations this certainly is. We have a 2 br casita with full kitchen 2 baths for less than the average holiday inn room back home Yet this scales much higher.

The beach is directly across the street through the surf school, which Kalimba guests have access I personally prefer walking the beach, perhaps rolling my pants and wading but returning to Kalimba to swim in the pool. Nights when Roberto is not cooking there are several restaurants directly on the beach to eat

Lastly we are here at the end of rainy season. I prefer Costa Rica especially this region in the rainy season. The end of October is supposed to be rainiest of all but the past 2 days maybe 20 minutes of rain and my last 7 day visit during this season averaged about an hour a day with a few days zero and one day almost 3 hours. A lot like Florida the rain comes and leaves as fast as it came. The rain makes the entire place come alive with green and blooms incredibly beautiful. The animals in the forest are more active because they are storing up for the 6 months of no rain. And because it is the "off" season there is much more privacy and tranquility. In the off season many services/stores/restaurants are closed but there are plenty open to accommodate us. If you are uber active there are 2 surf schools that also offer kayaking, paddle boarding , fishing trips directly across the street, there is also the beach, the dry forest hiking trails within 10 minute walk there is a massage and wellness center up the street that offers 60 minute massage for $30

Breakfast was amazing fruit coffee eggs bacon for one of the other is vegetarian. Jellies made by Isabelle from mangos and papayas grown in the yard I'm uploading picture of jellies

Long review I know but the truth is Roberto saved our vacation in a last minute circumstance and deserves all the words ;) Pura Vida

Room Tip: They all seem good we are in 4 and very happy

It was perfect. I am pretty picky, I like comfort when it comes to travel and vacations. And there I was, completely happy and fully satisfied. 17 days in heaven. Villa was spaceous and clean. We had everything we could think of. Dinners with the owner, Roberto were out of this world, he also helped us to arrange our trips and get around. It is an oasis, the property is covered with palmtrees and flowers, it feels like you are alone in paradise. I know my husband and I will go back soon!!!

Room Tip: All villas are great

Once again I had an awesome experience at Villas Kalimba. Roberto, Mildred, Jose and Isabel do a wonderful job of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The apartments are clean, the pool and surrounding garden are lovely and Roberto's cooking (with Isabel's assistance) is the icing on the cake. I was there last year for 2 weeks and couldn't wait to return this year. I highly recommend Villas Kalimba for families, couples, friends. Everyone.
