“German bread in Costa Rica”
Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

I went to Cafe Carola due to the recommentations on trip advisor. I had breakfast there and it was really yummy (especially the German bread). If you are up for the walk it's definitely worthwhile going there.

Just because I had a bit if a hard time finding it: If you come from the beach on the main road turn left into the paved road (there's the banco nacional on your left and the pali supermarket on the right). A small sign on the right indicates that Cafe Carola is 600m down the road. You walk for roughly 400m and then there's another sign that you have to turn right. After 200m Cafe Carola is on your right.

“Out of the way, but worth the effort”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Tiny, off the beaten path and a little bit crazy, due to the diversity of it's guests, Carola's Cafe simply has excellant food at very reasonable prices. Try the house salad and the schnitzel, great. Also, Carola bakes her own authentic german bread. Yum yum!

“Great coffee and excellent pastry”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stopped in here for some coffee and a pastry and were not disappointed. The special coffee with whipped cream was very good and we enjoyed some of Carola's fresh baked pastries. The place is off the beaten path and has a local vibe to it. Carola kept us entertained is full of life. If you visit Samara make sure you stop by this place for coffee.

“out of the way gem”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Stopped by on a hunch. Fell in love with the breads, pastries, and desserts, as well as the owner.
Had the German dinner on Wed and the Chinese dinner on Fri. and both were excellent and priced right and beautifully presented. The portion size was huge. The wine was cold and good. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. If you want formal and fancy go somewhere else. Be sure to have Carola do the Vanna White number board routine with the menu.
Do yourself a favor, don't miss this place, we loved it!

“The best”

Loved this off the beaten track GErman Bakery and cafe. Great homemade marmelade. Serious coffee and a fun hidden location. Wish we had more time to spend there
