We stayed for one week in January on the last leg of our CR trip and thoroughly recommend Samara Palm Lodge . We felt very looked after by Lothar and Brigitte from the off . They even picked us up from our previous hotel (in Samara) . This hotel is beautifully maintained , safe, comfortable and relaxing with lots of nice little touches .
Both owners are very knowledgeable about the area and turned us onto some great trips
which they also organized for us . This hotel is absolute value for money . We stayed upstairs ,
no AC , though very adequate quiet fan . I hope to return in the future for another peaceful stay .Thanks again Brigitte & Lothar .

Just back from a week at the Samara Palm Lodge and I can only echo the many, many positive sentiments that others have shared about the hotel and the owners! The dedication to making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible is evident from the moment you arrive to the time that you leave.

In fact, we had booked 4 nights ahead of our arrival to have some downtime near the beautiful beaches in and around Samara. We decided to stay an extra 3 (and thankfully there was availability) at the Samara Palms rather than go elsewhere in Guanacaste as we had already found exactly what we were looking for.

Our warmest thanks to Brigitte and Lothar for making our stay with them the best part of our vacation and for their kindness and concern throughout. We certainly look forward to our next opportunity to visit!

Room Tip: Noisy motorcycles and trucks are a fact of life in a small town like Playa Samara (likely worse if y...

We stayed 5 nights at Samara Palms. Our room was spacious and clean and we loved the care and attention to detail that Bridget and Lothar invest in their lodge. The rooms are on 2 floors on one side of the inviting pool, on another side is a shaded sitting area. We like the position of our room - downstairs with its own hammock chair and garden chair. The only downside, as mentioned by others, is the noise of the traffic from around 7am to around 10pm as the lodge is bound on two sides by roads (although one is just a small lane it does still get traffic). Despite this it feels like a beautiful oasis and is in easy walking distance of restaurants. Don't miss the Monkey Bakery (great coffee and pastries) going away from town (ask for directions) and the lovely forested walk (ask for directions). I would highly recommend Samara Palms as long as you don't mind the traffic noise and feeling in close proximity to the other guests. We felt very well looked after by Bridget and Lothar who take a lot of trouble to make their lodge a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: Upstairs - more light, more private, fan only Downstairs - darker, people could see in if they look...

This lodge is obviously well run and cared for by meticulous owners. The property is new compared to so many hotels in Costa Rica that it's a refreshing change. We stayed in the first room at the top of the stairs and although, it wasn't terribly private, we appreciated the AC. The pool was warm, complete with lounge chairs and hammocks, and precisely what you want after a walk to the beach. A car is not needed to explore Samara - it's all very walkable and the hosts provide you with a map and suggest restaurants and hikes. We ordered their $8 breakfast one morning and it was swiftly presented and very convenient before our 8am tour.

Room Tip: All rooms are going to have some noise from the local farms, monkeys, and passing vehicles. Second...

Me and my fiancée stayed at this beautiful place for 3nites and had the best time, The rooms are very clean and the swans on the bed are a nice welcoming into the rooms and the pool area is a nice place to relax.
The owners are very helpful if you need to know where to eat or what do in the evening. We would stay again the next to we come back to samara .

Cultural explorers naturally intoxicated w/CR's sites, beach breezes, & sunshine, may find themselves trying to distill their grand experiences in glowing lodging reviews, a stack of reviews challenging any innkeeper to continuously keep up such an amazing reputation! That said, Lothar & Bri deserve these great reviews. They've obviously worked hard at making their digs very comfortable at an incredible value to their guests. Not only is this lush little oasis a secluded hotel, it's also their home, and it's obvious they take great pride in home & business. They also care about how your vacation goes; they're pleasantly available w/info & help while being sensitive to your space. Samara's been a delightful, comfortable home base for many solo, couple, & extended family CR explorations, and now, I feel the same way about Samara Palms.

Here's what I love about this venue ... Great covered patio by pool to snack, visit, read, play games, be on computer. Very clean, pleasant pool, rooms, & grounds which are lush w/vegetation in a relatively small space. Little hammock spaces to have alone time. On the edge of town which is nice because you'll get exercise walking, you'll be out of the main hubbub of town w/out needing a car to get around Samara, and you'll actually hear and see howler monkeys (& hummingbirds). Because of the high fence/building surround, you feel secluded & safe. Yes, you'll still hear motorbikes & 3 wheelers zipping by and perhaps some roosters crowing; you're closer to where the town folk live. Samara Palm Lodge seems to be a great place for families, couples, and folks traveling solo. It strikes me as the kind of place that attracts a diverse group of open-minded travelers from all over. So! If you suspect that you're a whining cheapskate or that you're the least bit pretentious, you (& others) will most likely be happier if you stay somewhere besides Samara Palms. There are several very beautiful, relaxing places to stay in Samara; Samara Palm Lodge has all the comforts of those lovely places, PLUS personality & atmosphere w/out the big price tag. Thank you for all that, Lothar and Brie, and keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Liked privacy of 2nd floor rooms. No regrets w/AC, especially in hottest months. If you like coffee...

We stayed at the Samara Palm Lodge at the end of our 3 week trip around Costa Rica and it was by far the best place we stayed! The Swiss couple the ran the lodge were extremely friendly and helpful.

The beds were made beautifully each day and the honesty-system mini-bar by the pool was a really nice touch. Nothing like a few cervezas by the pool after a day snorkelling/hiking/drinking cocktails on the beach.

On the day we left we realised (after 45 mins in a taxi) that we had left our passports at the lodge and had to return quickly. The staff we very helpful giving us the bus time table so we wouldnt waste money on another taxi to San Jose and suggested that we sit by the pool and use the mini-bar whilst waiting for the bus.

Such friendly service doesn't go unnoticed!!
