“a beautiful relaxing oasis...a great find for our family!!”
Reviewed July 8, 2009

After 7 days of travel through CR we had booked the last 4 days at the beach to relax. Our initially booked hotel turned out to be horrible, a steep hill to the beach, dirty rooms, torn furniture, it rained through the roof, we were so disappointed. The local Treehouse Inn which looked cool to the kids was booked and above our budget. At the recommendation of the Treehouse Innkeepers we called the Hideaway Hotel and booked the first night unseen.....and considered ourselves very lucky....what a gem, we didnt want to leave anymore (in fact I wish I was there now)
What can I say...beautifully designed and landscaped, spacious rooms with the most comfy beds and hangout chairs (the room was great for us 4, kids 11 and 13). Nice pool and lounge area, nice sitting area for breakfast, lunches, if you want dinners...in fact the food was so delicious we had lunch there every single day. Walk to the beach 2 minutes, the empty cleaner side of Playa Samara. We had rented a car, so the 5 minutes drive to Samara for surf lessons or nightly dinners was no big deal.
I assume without car I would have walked to town (Samara) along the beach and taken a taxi back. The hotel is run by an American couple who is making everyone feel at home, the mood is very relaxed and friendly, you can chat with owners and fellow guests by the poolside at night, but you can also have your space. We hope we will be back. Thank You Rosi and Doug and your wonderful staff!

Only had the opportunity to stay one night at the Hideway but it was very much appreciated after spending several days in places along the coast which in no way compared to the quality at this little oasis. Very large, clean room with A/C. King size bed was the best. Linen and towels crisp and clean. Very clean, bright, well lit bathroom with a large walk in shower. Comfortable chairs on the patio. The small pool is great for a cool down and the beach is only a minute walk away on a very qiute road. The internet is very fast and the staff was very helpful with any questions or requests. The short time that I did spent at the Hideaway gave me very good reason to stop by this gem of a spot again in the future.

We stayed at the Hideaway Hotel based on previous Trip Advisor reports. I knew from these reports, that we would be pleased. I am very fussy about my accommodations but I don't go to the extent to pay a fortune. This place met everyone of our needs, quiet, peaceful, relaxing, beautiful. I looked forward to going down to our breakfast in the beautiful courtyard every morning. Between the yummy breakfast, the soft music, and beautiful surroundings, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. There is nothing more to say, everyone has reported all the details, and they are TRUE!! I have one question, I have to ask, is Rosy the manager or the owner? During one of our conversations I understood her to be the manager. Just curious! At any rate we will be back, also have directed our daughter and son in law to GO THERE!

We had planned to spend eight days in a vacation home in Samara, but due to a reservation mix-up, we ended up spending the last four days at the Hideaway next door. We could not have been any happier for that mix-up. Even though we had read nice reviews, the Hideaway was well beyond our expectations.
In our previous trips to Costa Rica, we had stayed at some lodges advertised as eco-friendly, but more like eco-crazy from my point of view, where they charge extra for every amenity they do not provide, such as AC, internet, phone, TV, electricity, hot water, etc. It was a refreshing change at the Hideaway. While it was designed and built to be eco-conscious, you still get very nice and spacious rooms at a reasonable rate with TV, refrigerator, AC, phone, and wireless internet.
The hospitality at the Hideaway was remarkable. Rosy and the staff were very friendly and always ready to help. The traditional breakfast was always a good start to the day (try some queso in your huevos!). The grounds were very beautiful and well taken care of. Make sure you smell the white ginger! The pool was a great place to cool off and watch the parrots and howler monkeys hang out in the trees, but a beautiful long stretch of beach was also a short walk away.
This was our fourth trip to Costa Rica, and I put the Hideaway at the top, based on the value, comfort, and hospitality.

Comfortable, modern hotel in nice garden (howler monkeys!) with a clean pool. Friendly staff. We enjoyed a beautiful sun downer on the quiet beach 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Room was spacious and had the expected comforts. The king size bed was extremely large compared what we have seen elsewhere in Costa Rica. Gorgeous nearby beaches. Breakfast was okay.

What we loved about the place is that it had a truly Eurpoean/ American standard in the quality of the rooms and equipment. The place was new and clean. You felt safe, the interent conection was the best we had on our whole trip. The breakfast was yummy.

Its a 2 minute walk to the outer end of Playa Samara, but doesn't have a beach view. However its too far out to walk home at night from Samara town. When you go out for dinner, you will have to drive, as the beach is a bit iffy walking home at night.

Felt safe there, as they have a wall around the place and a security guard over night. The owners, an American couple, are very friendly.

We thought, altough a great overall standard that 100 plus taxes was overpriced, given the location and the availabilty of better value alternatives in Samara itself.

We had a wonderful stay, the rooms were nice and modern. A couple minute walk to two wonderful beaches Playa Samara and a 5-10 walk to Playa Carrillo. We had a few visits from Howler Monkeys while enjoying our included breakfast. The staff at the small hotel was very nice, and the owner is very caring that you have a safe and relaxing stay. Lunch, Dinner, and snacks can be purchased at the hotel, they can help with travel and tours so not much else needed! Stay and Enjoy!
