“A Fantastic Stay”
Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

This review is long overdue. Me and the girl had a great time here, definitely did not want to leave. The location is close to a very quiet beach, but needed to cab it to town. The rooms are immaculate! very bright, clean, and comfortable. Hanging out by the pool was something we could have done everyday. The owners are great, engaging us in great conversation and Doug made us the best margarita's we've ever had. If we ever make our way back down to this area of the world we will definitely be calling the Hideaway.

The Hideaway was the final stop of our two week trip, exploring the beaches of Costa Rica. Here, we found what we imagined CR to be, friendly people, lush grounds, beautiful beaches, a kicked back atmosphere and of course the monkeys.
The rooms are large, casually decorated, immaculate and the air conditioning is a must, no matter what anyone says about the ocean breezes that seem to cease around 3:00 pm. We loved room 4 which overlooks the gardens and pool. It faces the beach so even though there are trees, you can get a glimpse of the ocean and can hear the surf. The beach by the hotel is about a block down a little country road. All of the meals that we ate at the hotel were very good. Above all, we loved the friendliness of the owners Doug and Rosie and all of the staff. They made us feel at home and so welcome. We've already planned our return trip.

Room Tip: We would recommend renting a car. Carrillo beach is beautiful and only a 5 min. drive. The beach it...

Spent five nights here. Room, location and staff were all excellent! Food above average for our experience in Costa Rica. Nearby Carillo beach worth a visit. The air conditioning itself is worth the price on a hot day in Samara!

This is a beautiful boutique hotel at the end of Samara beach in Costa Rica. The swimming pool is relaxing, rooms really comfortable and high end. The staff and owners are all delightful and willing to help or share out of the way day trip destinations or anything about the gorgeous county of Costa Rica. FYI one really does need a car to be able to get into town. You can walk along the beach but it takes about 45 mins one way. A great way to start your morning but not after dinner in town. The beach is about a five minute walk down a country road. It is about a 6 or minute car ride to another beach close down the rode that is known as one of the most beautiful in the country. The name escapes me. The hotel restaurant looked excellent but we preferred to sit on the beach in town to have dinner. Breakfast was a full breakfast including eggs and beans cooked a local way as well as tropical fruits. Monkeys even pass by most evenings around 5:00. Unfortunately not the nights we were there at that time but the other nights they swung through:)

Room Tip: There are a few rooms on the second floor facing the jungle that might be more secluded. We were nex...

My husband, daughter and I loved our stay in Samara in mid-April. Samara itself is a bustling, yet quaint, village that makes it easy to be a tourist without being touristy. The taco place right behind the surf school is a must-visit, and the grocery store has most things you'll need. Hideaway was a wonderful 45 minute walk on the beach or 10 minute drive away. I felt safe, comfortable, welcomed and relaxed in this pristine property, and enjoyed my interactions with the other guests. The air conditioner in our room worked well and was very quiet.

The staff was gracious and informative, and provided good recommendations for things to do and places to eat.

The hotel is just a few minute walk from Samara Beach, but do yourself a favor and make the short walk to Carrillo Beach, and try to do it in the early morning. Not only do you get to the entire beach to yourself, but you might also get heckled by howler monkeys on your way back.

We traveled to the Hideaway Hotel the first week in April, 2013 and had an amazing time. Our kids are 3 and 5, so the pool, proximity to Samara Beach and Carillo Beach were perfect for us. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. The food was great and the entire staff is excellent. Morning breakfast was lovely, and it was great to enjoy casual lunches or dinner by the pool. Our kids especially loved Doug’s coconut ice cream!

Rosie and Doug were very helpful in planning day trips and excursions, with recommendations for fishing/dolphins/snorkeling with Freddie, for viewing sea turtles and for exploring that were perfect for our family. They also directed us to other beaches in the area that were perfect for walking and exploring with our little ones.

The property itself is also beautiful. It is a true paradise. We all loved the pool, especially the kids. It is is one depth which was nice for us. There's plenty of wild life right on the property - lizards and iguanas and of course the monkeys in the trees by the pool.

The Hideaway was a perfect place to start to our first (but not last) vacation to Costa Rica.

Thanks to everyone at the Hideaway for making our trip so memorable!

Room Tip: We were on an upper floor which was nice.

We spent two weeks at the Hideaway Hotel in Costa Rica and celebrated our anniversary there. Our room was right beside the mango trees which the howler monkeys came to visit every day! It was the highlight of my trip! The rooms are lovely as is the hotel setting. Nestled right in between two beautiful beaches where often we were the only ones enjoying the sea and sand. We saw so much wildlife on the property alone! The staff there are very attentive and took great care of us...food was delicious. We also met the most amazing people at this small hotel that we wouldn't have met in one of the bigger "chain" establishments. We couldn't have asked for a better holiday. Absolutely intend on returning there; hated to leave.

Room Tip: Room number 12 is the best if you want to enjoy the monkeys. All rooms are the same set up however...
