We had a great couple of days here, its a small place which we love, with great owners and staff and an absolutely perfect location!!! Where else but here can you float in the pool and have a few drinks with the owners? Doug and Rosie are awesome hosts and they have a top notch staff. Breakfast was great and they have the BEST ice cream in costa!

Rooms are spotless and very spacious, only complaint is I wish they got a bit colder, but my comfort level is Arctic!

The beach at Samara is great, very close and a great place to relax. Doug gave us a cooler and we loaded up with drinks and had a perfect afternoon. You will think its heaven until you go a KM down the road to Carillo!! It is incredible, way more beautiful than you would think possible.

They have a great, stable experienced staff that work hard to make sure you are comfy!

We ate dinner at El Lagarto twice, it was great! We never got the chance to have dinner at the hotel.

Highly recommended and a great choice for CR!

Room Tip: One facing the jungle if possible, but they are all quiet.

The Hideaway Hotel absolutely lives up to all the previous Excellent rating reviews posted on Tripadvisor. Doug, Rosy and all the staff are fabulous. Everything about this hotel is top notch - the pool, gardens, rooms, bathrooms, restaurant, and most importantly the owners and staff seem to have this intuitive sense on how to treat their Hotel guests with the utmost respect and service.

After touring several places in CR and ending our stay in Samara, the Hideaway Hotel was a wonderful oasis. Walking through the doorway, I felt the relaxation seep in. The whole property is thoughtfully and beautifully designed. The owners, Doug and Rosie, can't do enough to welcome you and are ready to assist in any way. Everyone there were super-attentive and friendly. The room was attractive and clean. The pool was just the right temperature. The food was great and the homemade ice cream and brownies were the BEST!!! I loved being able to enjoy meals by the pool. The evening meal by the pool was made special by lovely arrangements of floating candles. If you want to stay somewhere that is classy yet cozy and informal and get great service and food, this is it. And for a reasonable price too.

PS One note about the town of Samara- Have cash available, credit cards are not often taken. You can use colones or smaller denominations of dollars. It'll save you some trips to the bank in town.

Large and beautiful rooms with TV, fridge, A/C, fan, balcony, large tiled bathroom. Nice to hang around the pool for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Two minute walk to less traveled part of Playa Samara, with terrific sunsets. But we preferred the seven minute walk to Playa Carrillo, which is one of the most beautiful beaches, if not the most beautiful, that I've ever seen (and I've been in lots of places). Very few people on the beach, mostly local folks, and unlike Jamaica or many of the Carribean islands, no one will bother you. And there's plenty of shade under the palm trees. Not a surfing beach or snorkeling, but wonderful for swimming.

One thing you should know is that the Hideaway is nowhere near most of the hotels in Playa Samara and it's a looong walk to town, probably 2 miles along the beach which is brutal in the midday sun. You should really have a car. But that distance is an advantage because of the proximity to Playa Carrillo, which is where you want to be during the day.

The service is beyond friendly. The most friendly hotel service I've ever experienced, period. The food is terrific and reasonably priced. We had the included breakfast, which was good. The guacamole and tuna sandwich (fresh fillet of tuna) was terrific for lunch. I recommend the sea bass with coconut sauce for dinner, though there are good alternatives that was my favorite. And Rosy's homemade brownies and homemade ice cream are a wonderful topper.

Thank you Doug and Rosy for a wonderful vacation. Thanks as well to Loida, Marcello, and Bryan. You are all wonderful hosts. I hope we can return someday. I've already recommended your hotel to several friends.

P.S. The howler monkeys did not come out much for us, though we did see them once and they do live in the trees behind the rooms. I think it's a seasonal thing if they're making their presence known. So you might have more luck with that.

Room Tip: We had Room 8, which is on the second floor and which we liked. Upper floor rooms are probably better, as are rooms that don't open directly onto the pool, but noise from other rooms was never a problem. Inside the room we didn't hear a thing.

This place was great from the second we walked in. We were greeted with great service and they went above and beyond our entire trip. The hotel location is perfect, you can walk to the beach and see the sunset, the food, rooms, pool, all around I would recommend this to any traveler.
