Let me say that we are not too particular. My wife and I are nurses and deal with the public regularly. We stayed here the first week in October for 4 nights. We had arrived with 3 little ones and my mother. The front desk receptionist William was quite rude and not at all friendly. I asked for a cart for luggage and he looked up and said "no cart". They should find him a job in the back somewhere else, because he never got any friendlier the whole time we were there. The room was nice but my mother's room had no air working and she ended up moving 3 times. The beach ws beautiful and private. The chairs were very uncomfortable and dirty. We had to wipe them down every day. Not many vendors on the beach and the sunsets were great. There were howler monkeys one day in the trees on the beach.
We wanted to see the sea turtles but it was $100 for each person at Playa Grande. We instead booke a taxi shuttle with the hotel for $180 and said we would pay our entry for the turtles. We were ready to go and the morining of I mentioned our trip to Warren the manager. Later the day the front desk called and said our trip was cancelled because the parks were closed. Then Warren approached us and said he was sorry but there was a problem with transportation. The whole thing was shady. Nedeless to say we did not see turtles. We did however book a trip to Palo Verde Park for the river tour which was fabulous and included lunch.
Marcello the hotel regular driver was excellent and friendly. Carlos the waiter and all the kitchen satff were very nice.
The room hot tub took an hour to fill and was not at all private as people on the beach could see you in your tub. The AC in the room was many times not working. Above our room they were stripping the door and railings and staining the deck above us. There was noise all the time and trash from the work many times in front of our door.
I would most likely go somewhere else.in the future and was a little disappointed with Bosque del Mar.

This is a beautiful hotel; the room was gorgeous with a lovely balcony and seating area. The hotel staff were very friendly and happy to advise about day trips. Right on the beach, as well as having a good sized and comfortable pool area. Perfect location for a relaxing and quiet beach holiday, whilst being in close proximity to other local restaurants.

I have stayed here several times and I always feel great when I do. There is something about this location in the trees, sitting right on the beach that energizes me. It also doesn't hurt that it has breathtaking sunsets, sailing, scuba diving & adventure tours, all the things I love. Add that to the wonderful food, lots of friends in the area, family owners & excellent staff and it's a no brainer.

Room Tip: Three classes of suites, Jr. Suite, Garden Suite and Beach Front, all are good but you can't bea...

We stayed here from 9/2/2012 - 9/6/2012. The Hotel is located on a beautiful and quiet Playa Hermosa. It's also only a quick 5 or 10 minute drive from Playas del Coco, which although not quite as nice of a beach, has a lot of amenities. The Hotel itself is provides many of the amenities of a much larger hotel - a very nice restaurant and a nice pool. It's also right on the beach. Service was great. There was a very strong earthquake while we were staying there that caused the tv in the room to come crashing down. Not only did the staff respond very well trying to keep all the guests safe, once we came back to the room the tv had been replaced. I would recommend visiting this hotel during the low season to really enjoy the pool and the beach.

We stayed here for three nights at the end of August. The hotel is located a short half hour drive from Liberia Airport.

The beautiful grounds of this hotel have to be seen to be believed. It is situated in a lush rain forest and many of the hotel buildings have actually been built around the trees themselves, making for a unique environment. While we unfortunately did not see any monkeys during our stay, we did see many types of birds and iguanas basking in the sun. The grounds are extremely well maintained. One morning we awoke to find that a particularly intense storm had knocked down a huge tree. By the afternoon the hotel crew had already cleared it away.

Our room had separate bed and living rooms and a private patio. Not only did the patio open right on to the garden, but two walls of the living room was made of glass, so we didn't miss a moment of the striking view. The room had a very modern feel with high end fixtures and lighting controls. It was kept immaculate by the cleaning staff.

The hotel is literally on the beach, and is the only beachfront hotel on Playa Hermosa. Our room was a minute walk to the water which was very convenient. The beach is made of a striking black sand and has very mellow waves - definitely calmer than the water I am accustomed to on the northern Atlantic coast.

The beach was very quiet and private, with almost no one else on it at times (though we were there during the off season). It is a relatively small beach but it still took about an hour to walk its length. It was fun checking out the sea life in a rocky outcropping on the closer end of the beach. At low tide you can even walk across the rocks to a separate secluded beach area.

The hotel staff were helpful, though formal and somewhat stiff. They will book any excursion for you that you would like - we went for a jet ski tour of the coast and saw several mating pairs of sea turtles. I would highly recommended it!

The hotel restaurant is open air and has a view of the ocean. It's food menu was extensive. Everything that we ate at the hotel was very well cooked. I found the meat and vegetables to be a bit bland, but the various sauces that they are served with were all very flavorful. They make solid cocktails as well. The prices are very affordable, but be aware that this is offset by a 23% surcharge for taxes and gratuity.

There isn't really a village near Play Hermosa - Playas del Coco is about a half hour drive away, and Tamarindo is an hour to the south by car. But there are still some places nearby worth checking out. Ginger is an open air restaurant right up the road that serves excellent modern fusion cuisine tapas style. I would also suggest checking out a bar called The Rock down the beach - it has a great local vibe, and we had excellent ceviche and pina coladas there while taking shelter from a storm.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay and would return to soak up the scenery again without hesitation.

Room Tip: All of the garden rooms have beautiful views, so it would be hard to go wrong. The walk to the beach...

Bosque del mar translates to forest by the sea -- a fitting name for a very unique hotel. It is charmingly situated on the beach, but each room complex is surounded by very old growth forest.
1. Room and decor: Roomy and nicely arranged and pleasantly decorated, but could use more natural light (junior suite)
2. Service: Staff were friendly and helpful, but did forget to clean our room one day when we slept in past 11am.
3. Cleanliness: excellent, windows and floor were spotless.
4. Location: excellent location. 60 second stroll to the beach. Do go to their website though for directions, as it is a little difficult to find if you are driving, particularly at night for the first time.
5. Overall: Excellent, charming, unique hotel. I would definately return and recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: I might chose an 2nd floor room next time (with a view of the ocean, as those I believe, have a jacu...

We booked our hotel reservations through Hotels.com and found when we arrived that we had been upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the Gardens of the hotel. It was probably the nicest room we have ever stayed in all our travels. The room had a separate living room with a flat screen TV off of a very large 2 queen size beds bedroom. I was very impressed with how luxurious the accomodations were and having stayed in other hotels in Playa Hermosa know that the quality of the bed linen and pillows were not your typical hotel ware. The shower and bathroom were bigger than some hotel rooms we have stayed in before here in the US. We found all the staff, from the front desk to our waiters in the restaurant some of the most pleasant, informative, helpful and went beyond to make our vacation exceptional. Warren, the General Manager was very pleasant and friendly and takes a lot of pride in this beautiful hotel. I give it 5 stars and will definitely stay again and recommend it highly. The location right on the beach was a big plus as well.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the new renovated rooms, Garden or Ocean view. Can't be beat!!
