Bosque del Mar is excellent. It is a clean, safe and beautiful property right on the beach which makes not having a car and hauling stuff for 3 kids along, easy and enjoyable. Lounge chairs were always out and we stayed well into the evening after the beautiful sunsets since the beach is so calm. The pool is beautiful and they provided towels continuously for our 3 kids at the front desk. We went for a walk down the beach to check out places to eat and to see the other hotels I had considered booking. We were thankful for having chosen Bosque del Mar. It is by far the nicest and most convenient hotel on Playa Hermosa. We ate dinner one night at Villa Del Sueno. The food was excellent but we noticed that it is not on the beach and you have to get to it by a public access. We also went to eat dinner at Finistera up on the hill and it had good food also with a great view but it would be a long steep haul getting to and from the beach. The hotel food was good but a bit pricey. We ended going to the mercado and picking up some food and also eating at Boceli's Pizzeria. It looks a bit sketchy but the pizza was great.
Hire Adolfo, the boat and snorkeling guy! We had him take us out 2 separate days and it was fabulous. He had all you need to snorkel. Even our 4 year did it! He's friendly and fun. We did bargain with him a bit to get a better rate so give it your best shot.

My family just returned from a 5-night stay at Bosque del Mar. If you are looking for a safe, quiet beach away from the chaos of places like Playa Coco, then Playa Hermosa is perfect for you. Bosque del Mar is a great hotel right next to the beach. The staff were friendly, the hotel restaurant is great (good deal on breakfast too!). The pool was shaded and perfect for times where we needed a little less sun and sand but still preferred to stay in the water. The rooms are beautiful and large. The AC works great, too (so important). While we were there, we saw plenty of large iguanas, and the monkeys often same through and camped out in the tree right next to the second-floor bar. This provided a great opportunity to monkey-watch and take pictures all while drinking fancy rums drinks.

The beach is a dark, fine-grained sand that does look a little dirty. It isn't mud--it's sand. The surf is mostly pretty calm except at high tide, and is great for kids. I loved the fact that shade trees allow beach-goers to sit in the shade while on the beach.

There are great services offered right on the beach but the sales style of people with services to offer is low key and friendly--nothing like the aggressive selling we experienced in Coco. I'd like to chime in with others to recommend you take a snorkle trip with Adolfo on the Sagitario. He was absolutely fantastic and is great with kids (he was the perfect guide for our 6-year-old first-time snorkler).

Not everyone knows English, but I don't see this as a problem. If you go to a Spanish-speaking country, expect service in Spanish.

We didn't find any laundry service outside of the hotel, but if you've not been to Costa Rica before, here's a tip: laundry is expensive for tourists in tourist areas. Either prepare yourself to spend $2.00 washing a shirt, or pack lots of clothes.

There are several restaurant options around besides the hotel. Ginger is good, as was mentioned elsewhere, and El Valero does a mean lobster on the grill.

Room Tip: We chose the beach front superior room. The hot tub these rooms include is actually a jet bathtub, b...

We stayed at Villa Del Sueno about 100 yards away but had a breakfast and dinner at Bosque Del Mar and both were great. They have an upstairs bar with a great happy hour as well. Very friendly staff. I did notice they had a lot of families staying and some shady spots near the beach.

My family traveled in Costa Rica this summer, ending with a relaxing week on the Pacific Coast at Hotel Playa Hermosa Bosque Del Mar. From the moment we arrived and were offered lovely, cool drinks, to the attention and kindness by everyone at the hotel, our trip was lovely. David, at reception, is amazing. He listened to what we wanted to experience, offered many great ideas, and was consistently calm and patient when we wanted to practice our Spanish. Thank you for a terrific time!

We had a marvelous vacation at the Bosque del mar. It is so refreshing to stay at a hotel (especially outside the states) that is exactly as advertised. The room was high end with a gorgeous bathroom. Our second floor room (#601) had a king bed and balcony with view of the sunset (ask for an ocean front if you can get it – worth the price). The staff throughout was very attentive and pleasant. We ate at the hotel several times for all three meals and found the food was very good and reasonable – We especially recommend the shrimp. We took two trips thru the hotel - sunset cruise (a good deal at $75 / person) and a 5 hours trip (including a 2 ½ hour boat ride thru the park and a lovely local lunch afterwards) to the Palo Verde Park (at $ 110 its not cheap, but well worth seeing the breath of birds, monkeys and crocs – a 14 footer cruised within one foot of our boat!) We ate dinner one night up the street (less than 5 minutes) at the Villa Del Sueno restaurant / hotel. It was more expensive than the Bosque and comparable in quality. A few things you must do if your visit: first, go to a local restaurant called Ginger’s. Do not miss going there, we went twice. Directions: walk down the beach and just past Agua Sports cut up the street. Walk about ¼ mile and you come to the main road – Ginger’s is across the street. There are many locals walking the beach who will take you out on a boat. Based on internet reviews we sought out “Aldofo” who was hanging close to our hotel. He took us on the best snorkeling trip of our life. He is an amazing guide and took us to two different sites, both teeming with fish. We convinced a family of 10 to try him, and they went out on two different days. We did not make it to the volcano or other parks; it was too nice lying on the beach. Next time, we’ll plan to stay at a hotel closer to the natural parks for a few days and then spend the remainder back at the Bosque del mar.

Booked this hotel over the internet and when I got there it exceeded my expectations. Very nice design, tucked in a little "jungle" right on the beach. Great room size and amenities, very well located, good service...just a gem on playa hermosa. Highly recommended!

Overall, this is a great hotel. We stayed 4 nights in a Ocean-View Suite which had the jacuzzi tub. The room was high tech with 2 LCD televisions and remotes to control spot lights, lamps, A/C, and blinds. The room was just phenomenal! Ate almost all of our meals at the hotel restaurant. Tried a few restaurants in Playa del Hermosa, such as Ginger and AquaSport (see my other reviews), but wished we would have stuck with the hotel restaurant. Don't miss out on Happy Hour (5pm-7pm) on the second floor. The waiters (especially Carlos and Johnny) were extremely attentive and excellent. The service here was awesome! The beach was also awesome compared to trashy Playa del Coco.

Some room improvements. The WiFi did not work in the rooms (but worked in the lobby area), and there were no computers available for use (at least that we saw). The hotel does not offer any form of transportation. They are willing to call taxis, but is extremely expensive since all of the taxis are based out of playa del coco. Average price for taxi is $15 to anywhere in the area and about $30-55 to Liberia airport. FYI, the taxi drivers told us that is a bit cheaper if you call the taxi drivers directly because if the reception area calls, the taxi drivers have to give a cut to the receptionist/front desk. The hotel needs to get a little car or some form of transportation.

As mentioned, overall great and beautiful hotel with great service.
