We have been to this restaurant 3 times now over the span of 6 mos. Each time the service has been so slow that you might end up ordering dinner but not getting out of there before breakfast. Even ordering drinks takes an average of 30 minutes, and you could easily be waiting all night for the cuenta. The food there is on average mediocre. Entres regularly arrive cold forcing you to wait even longer. The Yellow Tail I had was like a tough steak with no flavor even though it was pink in the middle.

We stayed at La Gaviota Tropical (above Roberto's) for 3 nights. Breakfasts were filling, fresh and fabulous! The staff also took great care of our 3 children. Dinner on the lawn was the perfect setting to watch the sun set and listen to live music. We had dinner twice at Roberto's and everything was fresh and delicious. Enjoyed getting to know the staff during our three day stay. Hope to visit again!

We found the place easily and sat on the lawn viewing the beach. Great drinks at happy hour prices. One of the better meals ate while in the area

Roberto's is very casual and small, with an unassuming waterfront location. Food was good but nothing special. Servers were super-friendly. There didn't seem to be anyone under 60 there, though, so it felt a bit like a place where American retirees who settled in Costa Rica go for dinner--including the musicians that were playing that night. A crowd that was more mixed in age would've been better. However, it's very laid back and has a relatively authentic feel. Probably a good choice for families that want a casual dinner on the water, less so for younger singles.

7 of us stayed at La Gaviota Trooical for 6 nights which is the hotel above Roberto's. Included in the stay was a free, "light" breakfast at Roberto's. The breakfast was anything but light or continental style as we would anticipate in the states. We started with a plate of fresh fruit and then were delighted with a different plate of hot food each morning. We received various preparations of eggs, rice and beans, and other traditional delights. Combined with the Costa Rican coffee and beachfront setting, it was an amazing start to the day.

After some lounging around we came back for lunch, appetizers, and even dinner some days. The lunches and shared appetizers were always a hit. The Guanacaste style beef fajitas, Mahi Mahi burritos, and ahi tuna burgers all starred. While we didn't stray from the lunch menu too often, the whole fried snapper on the dinner menu was excellent as well.

The food was great as well as the drinks! We had traditional guaro sours, mojitos, margaritas, and daiquiris. The buy one get one free happy hour around sunset made for a perfect end to the day, also notable were the tangerine limes used in all of the drinks which provided a local twist.

No restaurant is complete without its staff, and Roberto's staff was as great as the food and drinks. Breakfast started off with Sila and the eponymous Roberto serving up the morning delights and catering to the needs of a large group with many needs. Lunch, happy hour, and dinner were all served up by the triumvirate of Johnny, Luiz, and Roy. The hard work of these three was only surpassed by the humor and kindness they conveyed. We thoroughly enjoyed talking and laughing with the entire staff during our time here and will always look back fondly on our dining experiences and relationships built with the staff.
