“Heaven on Earth”

After visiting Tamarindo I very much appreciated the location of Rip Jack Inn. It's very quiet and you practically have the beach to yourself. The rooms are very clean and the a/c a nice respite from a day on the beach. But what really makes Rip Jack spectacular is it's amazing staff that seems more like a family than merely co-workers. Dave, Annie, Greg, Alisa, Oliver, Shirley, Marlon, Lydia etc... were all so nice and accomodating. Brett, the extraordinary chef, had bbq ribs on the menu one night. The ribs are so popular the staff asks that he set aside a rack for them to take home. Brett was sweet enough to take pity on me after the ribs ran out and served me the staff's portion - sorry guys! The food was always amazing: veggie scramble for breakfast, fried calamari for lunch, and the appetizer of garlic shrimp with hummus.

The Rip Jack Inn was a fantastic place to have a vacation. Especially if you like great surf, great food, clean rooms and friendly staff!
My husband, 16 year old daughter and myself had a fabulous time and would go back. Right outside our door, you could find beautiful flowering trees, banana and mango trees bogenvalia and hibiscus; awesome creatures: anteater; iquana;monkeys, gekos; various birds, leather back turtles.
A really great place!!

We just got back from a 9 day trip to beautiful Costa Rica. We did an overnight @ Hotel Don Carlos, 3 nights in Arenal Paraiso where we did all of our adrenaline tours and then we capped off our wonderful vacation by staying at Rip Jack Inn in Playa Grande. I chose Rip Jack through positive feedbacks from previous travelers on Tripadvisor. I was not dissapointed. The road trip via Grayline Tours from Arenal was quite an experience to say the least. Definetely rent a 4x4 if that is your plan, otherwise have someone else drive you so that you won't have to deal with dodging the pot-hole plagued streets. The Inn has a layed back attittude in that if your pleasure is for kicking back and enjoying great food, then you've come to the right place. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom small, but it serves its purpose. The decor is simple and fits the ambiance. Hammocks out in front of every room is a nice retreat. The staff is accomodating and friendly. The food lives up to the reputation. Great breakfasts, great dinner (would have loved to have lunch there, but we ventured to Tamarindo for the day). Overall, a great way to cap off a memorable experience in Costa Rica. Pura Vida.

Just returned from a five day trip to Playa Grande - my second trip there. The RipJack Inn has opened up during the time between the two trips. It certainly has livened up the Playa Grande scene. Quite the place to be! Our party did not stay at the Inn, but we ate just about every meal there.

Bret, the chef, is truly an artist - every meal was DELECTABLE as well as fresh, wholesome and very reasonably priced. The wine list was much more than adequate, and of course, the local cervaca always on hand.

Dave and Annie, the proprietors, provide hospitality at it's best. They couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. The restaurant seems more like a club house up high in the trees, welcoming all who pass by. The reading corner and the hammock, off to one side, take up precious table space in the most popular restaurant for miles around. Nonetheless, these add a lot to the casual, friendly character of the place. An apres surf paradise. We'll definitely be back!

We recently stayed at the Rip Jack Inn, booked for five nights and stayed a sixth!! What an amazingly simple, relaxed and laid back place...food was incredible, the beach was practically our own even during the busy season, and we got a great referral from Dave & Annie for a trip with a local fisherman. They went out of their way to help us celebrate my boyfriend's 30th bday! I would recommend it 100% and will definitely be back.

My family of four (2 girls aged 10 and 12) stayed at the Rip Jack for 3 nights between Christmas and New Years. Based on the reviews of the place before we went, we didn't realize how basic the room was going to be (plus we had stayed in the Hotel Parador by Manuel Antonio for 4 nights before this - a luxury resort-, so the room seemed even more basic by comparison). It was clean but the sheets had some holes, the bathroom sink was as big as a salad plate and there were no hooks or bars or chests to put any of our stuff. But, after the initial letdown of the room, we came to really enjoy the place. The restaurant as mentioned in the other reviews was really good, we had all of our meals there. The breakfasts are nice and the dinner menu changes nightly. The staff are extremely laid back and friendly. There was a really nice atmosphere about the place. The beach is very close and amazingly beautiful and large and there were hardly any people on it (and we went during the busy season). The Rip Jack is great for people who don't need luxury and want a relaxed atmosphere.

Eric and Andy, the founders and operators of SOLAZ, have put together an excellent surf camp in beautiful and pristine Playa Grande, Costa Rica. It all starts with the location: Playa Grande. Consisting of a few cool small hotels, bars and restaurants stretched along a classic tropical beach, Playa Grande retains the mellow friendly vibe that some of Costa Rica's more well known beach towns have lost. We stayed at the RipJack Inn, a very cool hotel organized around a great open-air bar/restaurant only a three minute walk to the beach. All meals are included and the food was really good. Healthy and hearty breakfasts and lunches and AMAZING dinners prepared by the local chef "Pan". Each day started with a mellow but invigorating yoga session followed by breakfast, surf lessons, lunch, chill time or an afternoon free surf, then dinner, drinks and laughs. The surfing was super fun and there were multiple breaks for surfers of all abilities. Eric and Andy are great teachers-they helped my wife, a complete novice, get up and surfing by the end of the week. My wife and I had a blast with Solaz and would definitely book with them again.
