A fantastic place to rest and relax in Costa Rica. Staff was friendly and accommodating, rooms were nice and clean, and the setting was wonderful. Pool was just outside the door and the restaurant/bar was just steps away, but we never heard a hint of noise from either one while in the rooms. The restaurant was wonderful, with delicious selections across the entire menu. Prices were reasonable, and portions were huge (too much actually).

The beach was a five minute walk away and an amazing spot to swim, surf, or watch and the sunset. Arranged surfing lessons at the Playa Grande Surf School, and the instructor had two 13 year old novices up in 20 minutes. Also took the estuary tour (arranged through the hotel) and saw monkeys, crocodiles, and birds eve in the middle of the day. Even got surprised by monkeys by the hotel the last morning.

We stayed here for 2 nights because it had easy access to Playa Grande to surf. The rooms were small and cozy which was just fine because you barely spent any time in the room. The room included a safe, tv, fridge and they put bottles of water next the bed every night. I especially loved how the TV was placed in the upper corner of the room so you could watch while lying in bed at night.

The restaurant was great and they offer a really good happy hour. We spent a lot of time working on our computers out on the patio while eating. Internet is not available in the rooms but we didn't mind as it was more fun to work outdoors. Staff was excellent, especially Ernesto! They recommended the Sanctuary tour which we loved and it was only $25. Totally worth it!

Beach was walking distance but we drove since we were usually picking things up on the way back to the hotel. Neighborhood is very quaint and you can tell it is a lot of locals and people who probably own houses in the area. Would definitely stay here again when in the neighborhood!

We loved the Bula! So friendly, charming, intimate....and a short walk to the fabled Playa Grande.
After a month in Costa Rica and stays at several great hotels we agreed that Bula Bula was our favorite!

What a wonderful place to vacation! The rooms were quaint, but not cramped. Very well-appointed and cleaned nicely. TVs too which I didn't expect. The pool was right outside our door and having a full restaurant and bar right on the premises was golden! The food was always delicious. The owners are attentive hosts and were always available to explain things to us newbie international travelers, not to mention recommended where to shop and which sites were the most appropriate for our age and active lifestyles (as well as where we might want to consider staying away from). I'd go back in a heartbeat if I had more vacation time. Looking forward to the next visit!

We recently vacationed there with another family and had a wonderful experience. The beach was seconds away from our doorstep and the sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at night. It was great having our own private pool to lounge by and swim in. The hammocks are a nice feature to help relax pura vida style! The house manager and the grounds staff were nice and helpful in providing us with tips to attractions in the area, as well as local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores. There's a grill on site which was handy for grilling locally caught fish. We frequented Hotel Bula Bula more than once for dinner, snacks and drinks because our kids adored the two parrots and we loved the warm and friendly atmosphere of the staff. The best feature of the house is not sharing our bit of paradise with other tourists. All in all it was a heavenly vacation and we will definitely be back.

Our initial travel plans did not include the Hotel Bula Bula - as we had been planning to stay in Tamarindo for the entirety of our trip. Due to a last minute change in dates, we were left scrambling to find a place to stay and Hotel Bula Bula was able to accommodate us- and we were so glad they were!!! After several days in Tamarindo, we took a water taxi over to the hotel- and found ourselves (quite literally) in an entirely different world. The small hotel had its own atmosphere- quiet and peaceful, yet fun. Bright and colorful, with lovely landscaping, it was exactly what we needed to relax for the last few days we spent in Costa Rica. The beaches were only a short walk away and EMPTY, and all the staff were helpful and friendly. They helped us arrange a tour to see turtles and also helped us get a shuttle to the airport at 4am (yuck!) The apps and drinks at the restaurant were great, as was breakfast. We would definitely go back and spend more time.

Don't know where to start. We were lucky enough to rent a house on Playa Grande from Bula Bula management for 2 months, so we didn't actually stay in the hotel, although our friends did. The entire vibe of this hotel & restaurant is truly remarkable. It is wonderful to see owners & staff equally enjoy themselves at work and of course that translates to exceptional quality in food and service. Todd was so helpful to us as we negotiated trips through the Costa Rican countryside. Victor is a wonderful bartender and the tag team of Ernesto & Jesse is pure entertainment. The happy hours often incorporated theme days. As Todd says, "what's not to like about February?" We started with the first hockey game after the strike (actually Jan), followed by Super Bowl (complete with tailgate buffet), the Grammy's, Valentine's Day & ended with the Oscars.

Nelson our house manager responded very quickly to any request & Marta & Luis were very dedicated in looking after our house. The entire team have become like family.

The location is wonderful. Minutes from the secluded PG beach (National Park protected because of leatherback turtles) with amazing waves for boogie boarders and surfers alike. But then a 5 minute water taxi ride across the estuary takes you to the exciting (touristy) vibe of Tamarindo. Always happy to go there; always happy to come home to PG. And it really felt like home.
Really & truly a trip to Costa Rica MUST include a stay at Hotel Bula Bula.
