“Great Food and Great Service”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

Despite not actually staying at the hotel, we ended up having two meals at The Great Waltini's- the first was so wonderful that we had to bring the rest of our group back the next night. The first visit their my fiance and I sat at the bar and had the special (enchiladas) and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken-Both were incredible. My fiance said the enchiladas was one of the best that he has ever had. Even better than the food was the service. Ernesto and Victor were incredible. Both swapping in and out to check on all the customers at the bar AND in the dining room and never missing a beat. Always swapping stories with everyone and really just creating a great atmosphere. The second night we brought my fiance's two brothers and his mom to celebrate a belated birthday dinner for me. Ernesto and Victor knew that we were coming back and as promised brought out a birthday hat for me to wear and they even sang to me. Ridiculous I know, but trust me, you'll love these guys! Everyone loved their food and the atmosphere. We were disappointed that we couldn't come back again as we were leaving the next day. If you are in the Playa Grande area definitely make a trip here for dinner. I cannot speak of the actual hotel as we didn't venture in but the pool area looked nice.

“Very postive”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We had rented a house a few min walk from the restaurant. So on our last night we thought we'd walk over for dinner. Turned out it was their first night being open "for the season". Everything we had was very tasty. The service was very attentive. They seem to have a very nice beer selection as well as a well stocked bar.

the menu is very much American influenced, so if you are looking for an authentic Tico meal....this is probably not your best choice. But if you are looking for a good meal, in a nice setting, this is a good choice.

“Best restaurant and bar in the jungle”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

Have been here many times on vacation. We look forward to our trips knowing we will be enjoying a fantastic dinner experience here. The wait staff is great the atmosphere perfect and the food 5 star. This place is literally at the end of the road on Playa Grande. You can get there front Tamarindo by small boat shuttle across the estuary. It is well worth the effort and you will want to return.

“Dinner at the beach”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We had a lovely alfresco dinner at Waltini. Our server was exceptional and he not only guided us through the dining experience but delightfully recommended activities for our family. (More on that later.) The menu was inviting. The three star rating is more a reflection of the value for the meal as it was pricey. That said we had been spoiled the previous night by the chef recommended by the family we rented our home from. Who shopped and made us a 7 course dinner for $$. He prepped; shopped; cooked; cleaned; served and when the grill was without propane improvised and then when the power went out lit candles and found the fuse box,
All in all a 3 almost 4 star. Food was not imaginative and some of the dishes did not live up to our expectations. Most entrees were $25+ There are three other venues that outshined Waltinis in the area so to be fair, can't rate them higher than 3.5

The ambiance was perfect; the visiting racoons a nice distraction for the boys and not pests just local color.
Our waiter was took the time to ask us about our trip and he came back to chat after the other diners left to tell us about places and adventures he thought we would enjoy. And we did take him up on his suggestions from snorkeling to a tributary tour; to walking in the early hours before the howler monkeys took the sleepy leaves. We did return to give our server a second tip because his recommendations far out paced the guidebooks. Note to reader, Costa Rica is a beautiful country with more than you can do in 2 weeks but most of all you will find if you ask a local person for suggestions they will go out of their way to make sure you experience what they love best...
