“not only a surf shop!”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

I contacted Corynne while planning our family trip to Playa Grande. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all the activities around the area. Our very first morning in CR, Doug arrived to teach a surf lesson early and just in time to rescue our 12yo grandson who had gotten caught in a rip tide! Thanks to Doug! We learned about rip tides quickly! The two kids loved trying surfing out. Corynne arranged our Palo Verde tour as well as fishing out of Flamingo. We had some unforgettable experiences! Thanks!

“Surfing”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Doug took us out for surfing 2 days and he was very professional and extremely helpful. Make sure if you are getting lessons you get them with Doug and see if you can coordinate with him on the best time to go out. Doug was great and my husband and I both made a lot of progress and caught more waves then I would have thought possible. Less psyched that the surf shop owner did not share the same sense of service to the customers. Doug wanted to change our time on the water to better match the tide and they really gave him a hard time about it. Also the board gave me a horrible rash that Ian (I believe that is the owner) said was nothing and will go away by the afternoon. That was 10 days ago...still there.

Thank you 'Cineroe' for taking the time to write a review of your experience at Frijoles Locos. We are very fortunate to have a great team of surf instructors, and are very happy to hear that you had a great time with Doug on the two days you took surfing lessons.
When we plan our surf lessons, we aim for the window of time which is 3 hours prior and up to 3 hours after the high tide. Some days, 2 hours before high tide is ideal, other days, 3 hours before high tide is better. On the day in discussion, the time change for the lesson was just one hour earlier than originally planned. The reason being that the tides were higher than usual, combined with a decent amount of swell in the water, and Doug made the right call to change the time to provide more optimum conditions for you to learn on.
We are very sorry to hear that you weren't as impressed with the re-scheduling process and apologize for not meeting your expectations in this area. I have spoken with both Doug and Ian, and it appears that another couple were scheduled to have lessons at the same time as you and your husband/ boyfriend that day which meant any changes to your session required us to contact the other couple to change their session time also. It seems that the other couple were not immediately contactable hence the hesitation and/ or appearance of not accommodating the changes to your lesson time immediately.
We will evaluate how we communicate with our customers and within our team throughout the entire scheduling process and critique with the team on how we can improve on this. Perhaps if our team informed you of the reason for what appeared to be a reschedule difficulty while they worked it out, you might have felt more included in the process and not like it was an inconvenience for the lesson to be rescheduled. Our customers are never an inconvenience to us and if it appeared that way, we sincerely apologize.
Regarding the rash from the surfboard: the material on the soft surfboards can give beginners a rash which is from friction-moving around a lot on the board- completely normal for beginners as they aren't yet balanced enough to lay still. Rash-guards which we provide, prevent this from occurring on the upper body and arms, however for ladies, legs/ thighs are exposed. Usually as Ian and Doug both mentioned, it goes away by the next day, however there are always some exceptions and we are surprised to hear it has lasted 10 days, that must be a very uncomfortable reminder of your time here. As Doug mentioned on the day, a zinc based diaper rash cream works a treat- as does corn starch to dry it up. Maybe this will clear it up finally for you.
We take pride in providing a top-quality service to all of our customers, and although we are disappointed to see a 3 star review when we have been blessed with great 5 star reviews for so long, it is the not-so-happy customer reviews that remind us there is always room for improvement.
It is our goal to ensure that each and every visitor to Frijoles Locos has the very best possible experience, a great vacation, lots of smiles and good vibes.
Thanks again for your review- Corynne

“Best choice for surf lessons in Playa Grande”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

My husband and I and our 4 children had the good fortune to choose this shop when organizing surf lessons for a group of 10. The instructors were outstanding, and fantastic with our young children (aged 9-13). The shop itself has a great selection of beach wear, and Corryne and Ian are extremely helpful and professional. We rented great quality boards for several days, and the price was so reasonable. Don't look any further!

“Awesome surf and sea shop in Playa Grande”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Ian and Corynne at Frijoloes Locos made a recent trip to Playa Grande a complete surfing success. They hade a great selection of boards to rent, huge selection of clothing and equipment, and a completely professional approach. Ian took us to a couple of great spots to find waves when Playa Grande wasn't holding the big swell, and they arranged our boat trip to Ollie's Point as well. The massage . . . unbelievable. Knowledgeable, friendly, and very well organized.

“The place to hire surfboards”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

My daughter and I rented two surfboards for 11 days. The service was very professional, the staff was very helpful and the equipment was in very good state. Furthermore, the rates are fair especially if you rent for a long term.
For anything that has to do with your surf vacation, I highly recommend Frijoles Locos!

Thank you Rob
