When we arrived here, the owners immediately made us feel comfortable and relaxed; it was like home in the tropics. The chill nature of this location near the beach made us want to stay longer. The delicious food and drinks (fantastic cocktails) were also a bonus. The owner gave us several recommendations about surfing and other places to go on the nicoya peninsula. The rooms were simple but cozy overlooking the pool. It has a hostel type atmosphere with fresh smoothies, homemade granola bars, a ping pong table and surf movies above the bar. Not bad for $50 a night.

Amazingly welcoming and friendly crew. You'll feel right at home staying here!
You can rent bikes & surfboards.
The place has it's own bar/restaurant with superb homemade pizzas, delicious, fresh seafood and very entertaining bar staff.
The beach is only about two minutes by foot.

PGI offers very good value for money!

I had the pleasure of staying here in May of 2011. I ended my trip here to meet up with more friends. The people that run this place are absolutely the most easy-going, accommodating, lovely folks around! Everything from the good eats, crazy delicious cocktails, to the most beautiful sunsets you can imagine just steps away from the beach and it's fabulous surf community. I highly recommend visiting this spot tucked nicely into the west coast of such an amazing country. I can't wait to go back... dream of it often.

We stayed at PGI for 2 weeks and had a great experience. The bar offered a great collection of surf videos for the big screen; cold beers with a great happy hour, poker night, and an amazing set of specialty cocktails. The dinner menu was a perfect combination of Costa Rican fare, pizza from the wood-burning oven, a BBQ night, and from 9-3pm a smoothie raw bar is open and boasts a great smoothie and home-made granola bars. If you want to change it up, the Mar Bar is open right next store and has a superb breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. The board quiver is well stocked for all types of wave conditions and ability level with the surf break being a quick walk out the door. No car rental needed and the hotel bikes made it easy to get around town. The owner, Justen, made sure everyone had everything that they needed throughout our stay, with a very help staff. I highly recommend staying at the PGI if traveling through Playa Grande.

This hotel has good vibes. Very chill-ax. Friendly staff and management. The rooms are basic and clean. We had good sleeps and felt comfortable and safe.A 2 minute walk from the beach. Nice bar/lounge/restaurant with ping pong and darts open mostly for dinner. Loved Lynn's homemade granola bars and smoothies in the morning. We ate next door at the sister restaurant Mar Bar for most meals. Justin and Lindsay are a great team and make you feel at home.
