The hotel and property was clean and comfortable, the open air lobby is well appointed and welcoming, the guest rooms could use some overdue updating. A beautiful white sand beach awaits you just a few steps away, however you need to walk across a dirt road, this was not a problem as there is not a lot of traffic. The staff was friendly and helpful, however services, food and drinks are overpriced due to secluded location. You need to make sure your flight lands at Liberia International Airport and not San Jose otherwise you will need to arrange for a 4 hour taxi ride. The taxi from Liberia is about 1 hour and cost $80. Nearby towns (Tamarindo, Brasilito) offer more options to find nightlife, better dining options and more activities. If you are looking to experience a secluded beautiful beach and outrageously beautiful sunsets, you will love the Flamingo Beach Resort.

Thank you for your review! We love to receive feedback at our resort!

We are working on refreshing our rooms. Although we renovated them in 2007, we are constantly working on improving the quality of the guest room experience.

We are working on new promotions with both Nature Air and Sansa to include air transportation from San Jose, which would only be a short 45 minute scenic flight! Please be sure to check on our website for all our exciting new offers!

You may have missed the local restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. There are even a few restaurants in the area that will pay for your cab!

Your comments on the cost of our restaurant have been discussed with our executive chef. We do not want our guests to feel they are overpaying and we are reviewing our prices. Thank you for this feedback!

We love your photo! You should enter our photo contest! Our website will show you how to enter!

We are delighted you enjoyed our beautiful sunsets!

The grounds at the Flamingo Beach Resort and Spa is absolutely beautiful. The pool was spectacular! The sunsets were gorgeous along with the beach. Wished we would have stayed in the area longer to visit other beaches such as Playa Conchal. Great place for those who love the sun, surfing and relaxing with family.

Our experience at Flamingo Beach Resort was initially a rocky one, because our room wasn't 100% ready for us when we got there at 7:30 at night and the front desk person had a don't care, smug attitude. It took multiple calls to the front desk to provide us with towels and to change the sheets. Our 1st floor room also had several crabs which are a common sight along the beaches in this area, but we didn't realize that at first and thought they were enormous spiders because they were young and had not developed their crab-like distinguishing characteristics yet. Later in the evening, we asked to switch to a room located on a higher floor to avoid the crabs; it was a different person at the front desk and from that moment on our experience was much improved. We spoke with the manager the next day to let him know about our disappointment that our room was not properly ready for us upon our arrival and our complaints with the professionalism of the initial staff member. The manager was very easy to talk to and empathetic, and offered some extras to make our stay more comfortable and luxurious.

All other hotel staff we have encountered since then on our 3 nights stay have been friendly, attentive and helpful. What I really like about the hotel is its huge pool and how beautiful it looks when lit up at night. The pool can get a little crowded during the day, but the beach is right there as an alternative and quite lovely. It's very similar to some of the southern California beaches I grew up with, except the sand is much softer and the water is warmer. Compared to other beaches in the area, this beach is smaller and has a more private feel.

Playa Flamingo is a fairly small town with few shops and restaurants, so if you plan on spending most of your time at the resort simply relaxing, I'd recommend that you go for the all-inclusive. We already did all our exploring and activities (horseback ride, zip lining, canonying) in Arenal and Monteverde, so we had no interest in doing excursions from this resort (except for a morning scuba diving trip). Most of the food that we ordered at the hotel restaurant was surprisingly good. There is also a great open-air lounge on top of the restauraunt, and we were able to order dinner there on our last night at the resort with a live band playing. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend Flamingo Beach to someone who just wants true relaxation (b/c there's not much to do within walking distance except for the beach). We had a car and were able to drive to other beaches with lots of shops, but since we really weren't in the mood for shopping, we turned around and went right back to Flamingo Beach which was much more peaceful and had gorgeous sunsets. =)

What I like:
Rooms are very nicely air-conditioned
Our room had a balcony with views of the pool and part of the beach
Modern furnishings, granite bathroom countertops
Lots of closet hanging space
We never heard our neighbors throughout our stay

What could be better:
Beds are n the softer side and a bit springy for my taste, but still relatively comfortable
Shower water pressure on the weaker side
You can tell that there is some wear & tear on their towels and beddings - some disarrayed edges and small stains on comforter covers, but overall the place felt clean.

No conditioner provided by the hotel so make sure you bring your own!

Spent 10 days (June 20-June 30, 2009) at Flamingo Playa Beach Resort and Spa in Costa Rica (Guanacaste region) and had an amazing time. We did the all-inclusive deal and had no complaints. The staff was wonderful, the food was super and the whole experience was fantastic.

The resort is cozy, only like 120 rooms, so you are never far away from anything. The beach is literally 15 feet across a dirt road and there is a patio where you can dine and watch the waves. The beach is quaint and not very crowded.

Speaking of food- it is amazing! Their new chef, David, is very friendly and will gladly accommodate any special dietary needs. The buffet had plenty of options and the menu also has some delicious dishes. All the wait staff is super and make you feel like a life-long Tico.

The pool is clean, refreshing and inviting. The swim up pool bar is fun to grab a drink at and the animals around the resort are always around to wish you hello. Lizards and birds will greet you everyday. The upstairs open air bar is nice and some nights there is entertainment. Things close up at the resort around 9:30 each night, but that is fine because of the long hot days and early sun rises.

The rooms were very spacious and the TV/Cable works well, even giving you some U.S. stations, as well as American TV shows with subtitles.
Everyone at the resort was super friendly and always willing to help you with anything, even learning some Spanish. I highly recommend the Flamingo Playa Beach Resort and Spa in Costa Rica!

If you do plan on going to CR, I recommend you contact Carlos Luis Jimenez with Eco Explorer Costa Rica http://www.ecoexplorercr.com/ before you go to handle your excursions.

He has the best rates in the country for all your excursions. He is personable, dependable and a pleasure to be around.

He provided my family with a personal tour to Arenal Volcano, some hot springs, as well as to a high adventure camp where we tubed, zip lined through the rain forests and did a horseback ride. Email Carlos before you go to CR and make arrangements to meet and schedule your trips through him. You will not be disappointed!

This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and we spent 8 days at the Flamingo Beach Resort with our two kids ages 9, and 7. The resort is really nice, and the staff were great. Randal, Fernando (front desk) were great, and provided us with everything we needed. Karla, and Alias ran the pool bar like pros which they are, and they were very nice. The food was great, but our kids ate mostly fruits, and barely touch it..
We saved a boat load of money by booking all activities outside by the beach through this very honest guy named 'Major Gonzalez'. Yes the hotel said not to use these guys, but they're providing the same service provided by the resort at a DEEP discount.
As far as places to eat outside the resort, Angelina's across from the main gate on the plaza is the place to be, right next to Marise's. We ate at Marise's, but it wasn't all that. Mary Del Sol on top of he hill is very nice as well..
We plan on going back next year, and we'll definitely stay at Flamingo Beach Resort again...

From the moment you arrive at the Flamingo Resort & Spa you are treated with kindness! All the staff members make sure your stay is a comfortable and memorable one. There are also fun activities always going on right at the Resort. You can also book great day trips right from the Resort. The pool is gorgeous that sits right next to the white sand beach. The rooms and the whole area is very clean, comfortable and safe. If you need anything, your request is taken care of right away. The spa while staying there also got the thumbs up from those I asked that used that service. There are also two great restaurants to try within walking distance along with an awesome gift shop!

The Flamingo Beach Resort was the first stop on a recent trip through Costa Rica. I was traveling with four other friends. We stayed for three nights (May 14/15/16) and had a great time. As it was the start of the Green Season, the resort was not crowded, which was nice. We never had any issues with getting loungers or being served at the bars.

Rooms:
I was in a room that faced the back side of the resort on the third floor. While not a pretty view from the large balcony, I didn't really spend much time hanging out at the room anyways. There was never an issue with any noise, despite some construction going on across the street from the resort. The beds were comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water (although the water pressure was not very strong).

The Grounds and Pool:
The resort is well manicured and well laid out. There are lots of birds flitting around and you will often see iguana roaming the grounds. The pool is outstanding and one of the main draws for the resort. I liked that the pool was open at night, as I have been at a bunch of resorts where the pool closes at sunset. There are lights in the pool and it is nice to take an evening dip. The pool also has an area to do laps (with swimming lanes marked on the bottom), for those of you interested in getting in a little exercise.

Food/Drink:
We stayed on the all-inclusive plan and I definitely got my money's worth out of it. The food at the restaurant was very good and we never had a bad meal. The ceviche was particularly good and something we had at least once a day. The service at the restaurant and bars was usually quite good. There were a couple times service was slow, but never to a point of causing an issue. The bartenders at the pool bar were extremely friendly - especially Glenda - and always willing to offer up a special drink if you couldn't decide what to have. There is no skimping on the alcohol. In the evening, we really enjoyed hanging out at the Sunset Bar (above the restaurant). There was a nice breeze up there and lots of couches to relax on and chat.

Beach:
The beach at the resort is fantastic. There were a couple vendors on the beach, but none of them were pushy. If you have been to Jamaica, this is nothing like that. A simple "no thanks" and they'll leave you alone. The water was very nice, with just enough wave action to allow for some body surfing, but not so much that you got battered around. There is plenty of soft sand to relax on, or the resort offers lounge chairs. The beach was never crowded.

Nightlife:
Basically non-existent. There is a casino, but it didn't look like there was much action in it -- of course, the resort also wasn't at max capacity. A couple nights there was some live music up in the Sunset Bar, but in general you are on your own for entertainment.

Activities:
At the resort, there is a daily set of activities... but not many people participated. There are a few pool tables and tennis courts plus a gym. While we were at the resort, we did a couple activities off-site. A couple of us went for surfing lessons at Playa Grande (using Frijoles Locos Surf Shop) and the whole group also did a combo ATV/zip-line tour out of Playa Conchal (we used Vic Tours, they have an office located right at the resort). Both of these were great.

Overall:
We really enjoyed the resort and would certainly recommend it.
