The natural beauty of Costa Rica as well as the staff of the Flamingo made our trip memorable! The staff (restaurant and bar) spoiled us and by the end of the week we felt like we were leaving old friends. The bilingual staff made communication easy. Not much to do past 10 p.m., however. Several activities to do during the day both at the hotel and through the day trips. The canopy tour was great, we saw monkeys napping in the trees. The day trip to Arenol and the hot springs allowed us to see a great variety including the rainforest, volcano(don't expect much activity) and the hot springs. The meals were great and the hot springs were out of this world! The Flamingo is the perfect location, just 20 feet from the beach with the best sunset in Costa Rica. Don't expect to get typical Central America prices, however. The cost of meals, etc. is similar to the U.S. Beers range from 2 dollars for an Imperial to 4-5 for a Corona. At a decent restaurant you will spend $75.00 for two people sitting in plastic chairs on gravel, but with an amazing view of the coast! The food at the resort is good, well worth the all inclusive price. Otherwise, the buffet would be around $25.00 per person. The city is very small with only 2-3 restaurants and a few small shops. The day trips are well worth it and allows you to see much of the countryside.

Flamingo beach is a great home pace on the beautiful pacific coast beaches. The resort is in a prime locatiom for beautiful sunsets and great for travelling around to local restaurants and other beaches. The pool is amazing and the staff were quite helpful. Worth checking out for sure.

2008 was our 2nd visit to Flamingo Beach and we've already booked our 3rd visit in 2009.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for families. The beach is super convenient and clean. The pool is a nice size and well maintained. The hotel is close to everything you could possibly want to do. The staff are helpful. The rooms are simple and clean.

The restaurants in the area will pick you up for dinner. You just tell the front desk which restaurant you want to eat at and they send a vehicle to pick you up. I recommend the Happy Snapper in Brasilito for a nice family dinner. If it's just adults - the Mary Sol restaurant in Flamingo in amazing. (while linens are a bit much for my kids on vacation)

There are endless activities to do and the hotel staff is very helpful in arranging things for you. We met a lady who's luggage was lost on the way to Costa Rica and she couldn't say enough nice things about how the hotel manager helped her out to track her bags through the airline and get them delivered to the hotel.

Sunset on the beach is really amazing. The entire hotel seems to empty on the beach in the evening to watch.

We're going back for our 3rd trip this spring. We're counting down the days.

I recently stayed at the Flamingo Beach Resort and was very pleased with the overall infrastructure, the wonderful pool area and the amazing beach just accross the street. I had been there a few years ago, and I must say the hotel is looking better than ever. The rooms have been remodeled, as well as the pool area and the lobby. They also built a new sunset bar right in front of the beach - great place to hang out right around 5:30PM - you don't want to miss those incredible Flamingo sunsets.
I would definitely recommed this resort to families or couples looking for a wonderful beach vacation. Bring your tennis racket.

Stayed at this resort for 2 weeks - family room over looking car park was a nice size - rooms with balconies over looking pool were much smaller - if you have young kids the kitchnette rooms are OK although lightly stocked with implements and glasses etc. Room was not cleaned to our satisfaction - beach resorts need a thorough mopping at least weekly - room was always gritty. Bathroom was small, smelly and hot water ran out every evening. However, the pool, pool bar and beach are very good - staff are friendly but fail when you have an issue that needs sorting. We did not choose the all inclusive package and were glad we didn't as the food in the only restaurant (we ate twice due to convenience) was bland, with poor service. Pool bar and sunset bar were both pleasant with tasty cocktails allbeit a bit pricey from the pool bar ($6.50 for a blended machine pina colada in a plastic cup) but they appeared not to skimp on the liquor.

They have a lively guy that arranges activities such as water polo, beach soccer, water aerobics, dancing an cocktail making. The sole tennis court is busy in the mornings and the evening lights are charged for and unrelaible (frequent power cuts).

The beach is 1st class being across a small lightly travelled dirt road but no beach parasols from the hotel - security will take some loungers over for you. Waves were mostly small but can get some big waves of the pacific on the rising tide - toddlers beware.

Security was good with front and rear entrance guards on 24/7. We had a hire car and parking is ample. We were there over Christmas and New years. I mentioned earlier we selected room only and bought in food for breakfasts - ate out mostly as there are several nice restaurants in Flamingo and surronding area. However we were charged for the NYE celebration wether we wanted it or not. So, we asked about it at check in (10 days prior) and several times after that and were referred to a girl that was arranging it all. We finally caght up with her 2 days before and were shoen the layout for the night. Tables around the pool - OK - except the only table left was by the band - OK we thought we are ready for some fun. We showed up at 7.30pm as requested and were shown to our table that was now by a stack of amplifiers about 8' tall by 6' wide (one of 2 stacks) that were blaring out a latin rap/pop. My 9&7 year olds were sitting with their fingers in their ears - OK not to panic - live band was setting up that would be better. No drinks after 15 minutes - went to the bar and asked for drinks - waitress will be with you shortly....well shortly was not in the next 20 minutes.

Band started......even louder - kids now distressed and we are unhappy. Go to the hostess and state the issue - small kids and music so loud that any western government would declare it illegal - Pete Townsend would have had his fingers in his ears - typical latin response - sorry we are full. Sure you are honey - thats why 3 tables just left, no sorry lump it or leave.

So we left - paid a fair amount of money for nothing. We went to dinner at a nice restaurant acroos the steet (Angelinas) and could still here the music! It reminded me of collge frat parties, make the music so loud your ears bleed but when your so druunk you don't care - this was very out of chrecter for the resort - disappointing. Fireworks at 12 were good.

One thing that also pissed us off was that day we decided to hang out by the pool - only they shut the pool at 2pm - but they forgot to tell the guests ahead of time.....managment & communications are not this places strong points.

Following day there was a shortage of loungers around the pool as they had been moved away for the night before. many residents were complaining - at 12 (fireworks) 50% of the tables had been loing deserted, to damn loud etc. Pool was full of plastic cups and my wife got glass in her drink (probaly from glass in the ice chests) went to the manager on that one - lot of words but still charged for the drink! That was the last drink we had from the pool bar as they did not change the ice.

If I take the New years eve out it is not a bad place for a family vacation, it's 20 years old and the rooms are showing their age in design (small bathrooms & dated cabintes etc). I would not recommend taking the all inclusive - breakfast only would be the most I would suggest.

Location is quiet, light traffic out front and plenty to do - but they are getting a lot more competition nearby and will suffer if they don't step it up.
