“Great way to spend Christmas!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Spent the week with my wife here from Christmas through to New Years. We did the all inclusive thing and it was well worth it. For the first part of the week, hotel was about 1/2 full so we kind of felt like we had the place to ourselves. The adjoining beach is fantastic; one of the better in Guanacaste - we spent more time there than at the pool though spent a lot of time at the pool bar! We had a ground floor with a patio - made for some nice evenings watching the sun go down over the ocean. Food was great and variety was good; upstairs bar was pretty lively after the sun went down. It did get a bit too busy for my taste around New Years, apparently quite popular with the Tico's for that holiday.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor with a patio that faced the water and pool; very handy to move from beach to p...

Our extended family and a number of friends were on property from Christmas until after New Year's also; how I wish we had met and we could have thanked you in advance for your lovely review! You are absolutely right that the week after Christmas is the most popular week of the year for "locals" --especially from the San Jose area-- to enjoy their own beautiful beaches. Usually the beach is very calm that time of year, great for swimming and for families with children. The partying goes late into the night as family and friends enjoy both planned and impromptu gatherings. We are so happy that you had a good stay with us and hope you will return someday soon. Maybe try us again during the "green season" when we have the best climate in the entire country, with least amount of rain, but the surrounding countryside is still very lush and green.

We found this resort while searching for a place to stay for a few days. The prices were outstanding and the all inclusive option for food and drinks really sealed the deal. The service was great and the staff attended to our every need. Food selection was good and they had a different theme for food each day. The beach was right behind the resort and they offered many tours at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your very positive review of your recent stay at the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. Our dedicated staff members are justifiably proud of the attentive service they provide our guests, so we appreciate your compliments to them in your review. We are also glad you enjoyed the food selection and different daily themes (Italian, Asian, "Noche Tipica" to name a few). We hope you come back and visit in the future and let us know before you come that you are a return guest, so we can figure out ways to "wow" you even more!

We had a poolside, 2nd floor room. The room was clean and had plenty of room. We enjoyed the balcony overlooking the pool, with palm trees and plantings attracting birds, squirrels, and iquanas. The pool is large and we alternated between it and the ocean. A quick walk across the service drive and you're on the beach! The buffet breakfasts were very good with plenty of variety. For a complete tico experience, walk south down the beach 1/4 mile to Coco Loco, a beach-side outdoor restaurant. Reasonable prices, great food, and you can watch the sun set over the water!

My husband and I stayed at this resort for two nights during our week long stay in Costa Rica. We used the All-Inclusive plan and it was great! The room was nice and overlooked the pool. The food at the resort was amazing. We spent the day at the beach and I have to say that Flamingo Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever been on. The staff was amazing and always very friendly. We also had pictures taken by the photo studio on site. It was such a great experience and Valerie did an amazing job! We will definitely return to this resort in the future.

There is nothing that my staff and I love more than to read that you had a "Perfect Vacation" at the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. You even came in our low season and it was everything you had hoped for. We could not hope for higher praise than that, thank you so very much for your lovely feedback. We are sooo happy you plan to return, please give us a heads up before you come, because we have to try to beat perfection to make your stay even better next time!

I had been here 5 years ago with a friend and it was great. This time I went solo and I was put in a room on the ground floor, which smelled like the room wasnt clean in a while. Talked to the reception and was helped by a gentlemen(forgot his name :( ), he immediately offer me another room on the second floor, view was the parking lot but it was clean.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on the ground rooms (no shower pressure) or a room beside the ice machine, will make...

We were very sad to read your review and see that your stay was only "average." During the heart of the "green season" (Sept & Oct) it's hard for any beach hotel in Costa Rica to avoid the musty, humid smell in the ground-floor rooms. We do our best with constant cleaning and the use of ionizer machines, but it's a climate-induced problem that we have to live with. Our occupancy rates are lower, and the cost of electricity in Guanacaste makes it prohibitively expensive to run the A/C's 24 hours a day when the rooms are not in use--- not to mention our commitment to sustainability which means we try to save on energy. We do run the A/C's regularly to try to maintain good air quality; it's just sometimes not enough. Please be sure that cleanliness is a TOP priority for us. Thank you for your feedback.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but the staff was friendly & accommodating. Our initial room was on the lower level which is half way below the ground level, but has a patio & steps up to the lawn. It looked very nice & clean, but had a musty smell. We checked with the front desk & the staff upgraded us to he 3rd floor pool view for a small fee $15.00/night. ($45.00 total). However, the front desk also sent us a complimentary bottle of wine. every one was very friendly and helpful. The food was great, poolside or at their resturant & the dining staff was just as friendly & helpful. We enjoyed our ATV ride with Christian who was located beachside. He was friendly, accommodating, and not "pushy" at all. He made the "sale" with us, but as a pleasent surprise he also took us on the ATV tour to the north. It was a great trip. He stopped at different areas & let us walk around. We took a couple trails to great views. He never hurried us or seemed rushed. He was always looking for monkeys, of which he spotted a family of at least 6 & with another 2 babies on the way home. He still left us stop to see them & take pictures. Our ride was over 2 1/2 hrs. Thanks Christian- Michelle & Wayne- hope you read the review.

Jus got back from spending almost a week here with the boyfriend and we both had a relaxing stay. Our poolside room was a bit plain and simple and a bit outdated, but it was clean, cool and comfortable and it grew on me. I loved the hammock outside our room which I happily spent hours on reading. One thing I do wish was better though was the water pressure in the shower, it is very, very weak (and you ladies with long hair know what I mean). The staff overall was was very courteous and polite. We didn't spend too much time interacting with them being that we went out a lot exploring, but when we did need help they were always very helpful. The food at the hotel was a toss up. While we really enjoyed the breakfast plan, we were also glad we did not get the all day all-inclusive plan. The breakfast was always very fresh and a mix between American and Costa Rican food which we really liked. We had dinner twice at the restaurant but we were not really impressed with the menu and found ourselves fumbling between the pages a lot in order to pick something out. Keep in mind we are also a young couple on a budget. I recommend dining at the nearby restaurant Coco Loco at least once and if you have a car, head to the next town Tamarindo for food as well (I highly recommend Green Papaya Tacos!) The sunsets here were beautiful. For activities, we booked an ATV/ziplinng tour with the Flamingo Adventures group on the beach and we had a great time.

All in all, this was a great stay for a great value. The only thing I wish I had known beforehand was how isolated the resort was from any true "town" experience. That was a research fault on my part, but it was redeemed by adventure tours and a rental car. However if you're truly just looking to relax and have the budget for all the spa amenities on site, this is a great place to sit by the pool and enjoy the views.

Thank you very much for sharing your review of your recent stay; we always like to get this kind of feedback from our guests. You have our apologies for the lack of water pressure, this is an issue that we have been working on both through our own renovations and also working with the local water company (which has had its share of problems). Glad you enjoyed our breakfast selections, but unfortunately, you came just as our new menus are being finalized and printed; in fact, they should be in Arenas Restaurant and our Sunset Lounge by next week at the latest. We have a lot of new freshly prepared dishes at Arenas and a whole new "Tapas" menu for the bar upstairs. So hopefully, you will get a chance to visit us again and will notice a big difference in the selections and preparation. We are happy that you "had a great stay for a great value;" however, we regret we didn't "Wow" you enough to get more than three bubbles on your review.
