“Great Beach, Views,Pool and Food”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We totally enjoyed our stay (early August 2013) at the Flamingo. All the meals were excellent, including the buffet breakfast and lunch. The swim-up bar was great as was the beach and waves which were a thirty second walk from the pool. Our room was more than satisfactory with an excellent view (a little more expensive of course for the ocean view). We didn't spend much time in the room. Definitely consider the Flamingo!

Room Tip: Request an ocean view - approximately $100 more per night.

The pool is nice, the room are just ok. But the beach is perfect more quiet and less touristic than other beaches around.

Right outside the resort in the front of the beach you can find Christian. who works with Rigo Suave CR tours & transfer, he will help you to book any tours you want to do. Christian helped us to book a sunset catamaran tour and a wonderful tour on a river to see the wildlife. Rigo, our guide was very friendly and full of advice and knowledge about the area, we even had a lunch in small traditional restaurant, it was just perfect !!! Thanks again guys for your help.

Room Tip: avoid room in the top floor, they are a bit noisy

I visited the resort in August for a friend's wedding. The location was perfect. Nestled in the jungle and spilling out into the beach. The pool with the swim up bar was great for relaxing after the days adventures.

I can’t say enough about the staff! The bartenders, Elias, Manolo, Bryan, Edwin and Wilmar were great! Always smiling and providing great service. The staff that handled the wedding was also amazing. The whole staff thanked us and even got a little teary eyed when we checked out.

If you are looking for the comforts of a resort without that big resort feeling this is the place for a great vacation or destination wedding

Thank you, thank you, thank you, your kind words are music to our ears! We are thrilled that your visit for a friend's wedding was everything you had hoped for. Thank you so much for recognizing our very dedicated and diligent staff. They are like our extended family and we love to welcome our guests to be a part of it too. In your review you captured exactly what we strive to be: to provide all the comforts and amenities of a larger resort, with the intimacy and proximity of a small family-owned resort. Sometimes it's very tough for us and you cannot be all things to all people. We are so pleased to have succeeded in your case and appreciate the feedback. Please come back and visit when you can!

This resort is located on a beautiful, secluded and peaceful beach but the hospitality of the staff is what sets Flamingo Beach Resort apart. My wife and I have chosen this resort as our favorite place in the world and were married there in August 2013.

If you are anything like me then you will want to get to know the magnificently friendly and accommodating bartenders: Elias, Manolo, Edwin, Bryan, and Wilmer. Their service is fantastic. If you need an awesome dude to handle your luggage look for Omar, "The Pea."

Visit this paradise resort once and you will never forget or regret your stay.

Your amazing, positive review really made our day, because the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa is OUR favorite place in the world as well! Thank you so much for appreciating and recognizing how dedicated our wonderful staff is to hospitality and customer service. It was so kind of you to mention so many by name. Of course, there are dozens of other staff members who work more behind the scenes, whose names you may never know, but contribute much to make the guest experience such a positive one. We all really appreciate this recognition. Congratulations on your wedding and thank you for giving us the great privilege of making our resort part of your memories. Please come back and visit us again on an anniversary or with your (future) children!

We visited in August and the resort was not very crowded at all. Granted it is the 'rainy season' but we only experienced 3 small downpours in an entire week. The weather is unpredictable though!

The drive was about 4 hours to reach Flamingo from Arenal and I think it might be about the same distance from San Jose. The roads are decent, but a trip that you want to complete during daylight hours as there are limited street lights.

I was disappointed that we arrived around noon but we had to wait until 3:00 for check-in. After about 3 inquiries, we were given access to the restaurant for lunch (as we had the all-inclusive option) by then the room was ready. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. Very nice with wifi in the room. The entire resort was very clean and beautiful with a pool, pool bar, covered pool area for the kids, one restaurant and one bar area.

To get to the beach, you just have to cross a rear access road. The beach was fantastic with a long sandy stretch of 'silly putty' sand (very little granularity) that was surprisingly nearly deserted. Are the tourists so put off by the rainy season?? The water was warm, but the tide was a bit harsh. Playa Flamingo feels a bit secluded as there are hills on either side. The beach is a pure silky stretch and the resort offers lounge chairs for use.

On the All-Inclusive, it sure was nice to have although comes at a price of about $133/day for 2 people. It was great for the convenience, but sometimes it also encourages too much overindulgence. There are many restaurants within walking distance so either option can work out fine. The food at the resort was good with a menu or buffet options. Some of the dishes I tried were Mahi-Mahi with green onion butter, Mushroom Ravioli, Ceviche and Chipotle Chicken - all were fabulous!

I would recommend this resort - the resort is small but has some daily activities, the beach is very close and convenient, and the area surrounding the resort is sprawling with wildlife (we saw birds, monkeys, iguanas, crabs, etc..). Service was pretty good at the restaurant although the pool bar could be a little slow.

I should mention there's some kind of turf wars going on at the edge of the resort. Two different groups are out there that are not employed by the resort that offer various tours. Not a big deal as a simple No works. We did end up booking a trip with Christian on the beach and it was fantastic! He was kind and professional and set us up with a decently valued fishing trip - we were extremely happy with our trip!

Thank you for your recent stay with us and for your very informative and positive review. We welcome your feedback and were especially gratified to read your compliments on the meals you had at our Arenas Restaurant. Yes, we are on one of the most stunningly beautiful beaches in all of Costa Rica and have the great privilege of being the ONLY hotel on Flamingo Beach (no matter what others advertise). It's a shame that street vendors are legally allowed to wait outside the gate of our resort to pester our guests, but our security staff is always there to ensure that hassles are kept to a minimum. We're glad you found a satisfactory tour operator and enjoyed your fishing trip...Pura Vida!

We arrived at 1100am after driving 6 hours with my 2 yr old and we were told check-in was not until 3pm. We asked if it was possible to check in early they said check back at 1230 but to no avail. They made no effort to try and accommodate us as they check in others who arrived later. We waited in the lobby and checked numerous times and finally at 245pm they provided us our keys. It was obvious they had them ready sooner but made no attempt to tell us, even though we were in the lobby waiting for almost 4 hours. The tall female that worked the front desk seemed to be somewhat dismissive of our waiting. We got into our room (212) and relaxed.

Within a few hours we noticed the floor had pools of water due to the heavily dripping sink. We were all tired and my son was running a 102 degree fever so we did not call the front desk since they obviously we're not very responsive and it was more important to get my son' s temperature down. We simply mopped it up and put towels down. The bathroom door and floors were filthy and in need if paint. (This was consistent with what I had already read on TA so no big surprise). The water pressure in the shower was not the greatest but the water was hot. The sink dripped all night. No iron or ironing board provided. The locks on the door were not very secure and there was no additional deadbolt mechanism or chain. The pool area was very nice and the breakfast included was quite good.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay; we deeply regret that you had some problems with both the check-in procedure and maintenance issues in your room. We have already spoken to the General Manager about your complaints and corrective action will be taken. Unfortunately when the hotel is busy (which in low season is mostly on the weekends and Costa Rican holidays) it is very difficult to get rooms turned around for new check-ins before our 3 pm check-in time, but families with young children should definitely be given a top priority and we completely apologize for your long wait! Also there is also absolutely no excuse for any lack of cleanliness in the rooms EVER; this issue has also been given our top priority and attention. You have our sincerest apologies for a less than stellar experience at our resort.

Having stayed at several resorts in various locations over the years, I will say that Flamingo Beach is my favorite. The beach and pool are never overly crowded and the staff is always friendly. The other draw of this place is that the prices are relatively reasonable for a resort. I find it's easier to relax when you don't feel you're being taken advantage of.
