Great hotel, within steps of the beach. Beautiful pool, food is pretty good-nothing spectacular. Swim up bar, game room, movie room, spa-all on site. They offer daily activities and you can sign up and pay ($$$) for ATV/jet ski tours. My only complaint-our room smells like a mix of mold and smoke. When I spoke to the front desk abt moving-he told me he could move us to a room-but without a view. Then he said "just turn on the AC and maybe it will go away" well-it's been two days and it still stinks!

Thank you for posting your review of your recent visit to Flamingo Beach. We deeply apologize that your room did not smell fresh, and for the attitude of the staff member who told you just to turn on the A/C. That is not acceptable and not the way our personnel has been trained to react to a guest complaint. In the "green" season, the moldy smell is just part of living in the tropics, but we employ special ionic room sanitizers to keep this problem to a minimum. We regret that a comparable room type was not available at the time for you and your family to be relocated.

The hotel is beautiful and our family had a very nice 7 night stay there. Just a few ideas- we only got the breakfast and that gave us the option to buy lunch and dinner elsewhere. Other guests said they felt trapped having pre paid for all the meals at the hotel. The photo takers and gift shop and beach equipment rental vendors are not owned by the hotel and pressure you to pay cash and add a 13+ percent charge if you want to charge the room.

Thank you for your positive review of your recent stay at the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa, we are glad that you enjoyed a wonderful family vacation at our resort. Thank you so much for the feedback, it is always valuable to us. We would like to point out that we are very different from a typical all-inclusive beach resort in that our guests have the total flexibility to choose their own food & beverage plan from a variety of packages. We would never want anyone to feel "trapped," that's why we over so many options even though, operationally, it is much more challenging for us! Many guests prefer to pay for the all-inclusive option up front and thereby keep better control over their vacation budget. It is an especially good value for those who enjoy the tasty libations at our swim-up pool bar and Sunset Lounge! However, we support and promote our local restaurants in the area because we love to give our guests more options; we offer the flexibility of dining out with room-only and breakfast plans. Also, as far as the outside vendors go, they are trying to give you a better deal when they ask if you'd like to pay cash, because once it becomes a credit card or room charge, the government-mandated taxes are unavoidable; there is nothing any vendor can do about this, the money does not go to them! So we just wanted clear up any misconceptions about this issue, as our guests' happiness is everything to us and no one is trying to take advantage, they are trying to help!

The staff at Flamingo Resort were excellent, always trying to please, but in a very real, friendly way. From the Pina Colada greeting Carlos gave us while we were checking in, to the great pool and beach staff we encountered each day. A special thank you to Alexandra from Arenal restaurant who welcomed us each morning for breakfast and was so helpful in making our stay so enjoyable.

Also the afternoons at the pool bar were made more enjoyable by the excellent bartenders Manolo and Elias who seemed to be having as much fun as their guests. Oscar, the manager of the pool bar and Sunset Lounge has a great staff.

And I must mention the kitchen staff at Arenas Restaurant for preparing an amazing feast from the Amber Jack fish my son caught earlier in the day. Delicious!

We truly appreciate the lovely review you wrote of your recent stay at the Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. It absolutely is our wonderful staff who makes all the difference in the guest experience, and it was so kind and gracious of you to remember so many by name. We are a family-owned hotel and think of our hotel associates as an extension of that family; thank you so much for the well-deserved recognition. Pura Vida, come back and see us soon!

Stayed here last year and would go back. Chef Carlos hung out with us and talked a few times. Enjoyed our conversation. The whole vibe was nice. Being a gringo at Playa Fla'gringo I felt very accepted. Get out there, find some cool beaches and small local places for cassado. Some of the best mix plates ever! Some good food out there! The fruit is so flavorful. This hotel puts out a nice Costa Rican night. Some traditional foods, and dance. Don't miss it or the tres leches !

Room Tip: Birds can be loud on the rear side of hotel, like coqui frogs chirping all night.

It was such a pleasure to see a review from your stay almost a year ago, because it means that we live on in your memories! Thank you very much for thinking of us after so many months, and remembering our Costa Rican "noche tipico" with the special foods and dances performed by our own employees. They put a lot of practice and heart into the traditional dance routines and do it on their own time and initiative. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful staff and are so glad your vacation was memorable enough that you want to return. Hope to see you soon!

Hotel was on the beach. There is a grocery store within walking distance. There is also a nice little ice cream palor within walking distance. The restaurant at the hotel was not very good. I would definetly do the Breakfast plan -- but not the all inclusive.

Room Tip: pool view rooms are very nice

We're very happy that your overall impression of our resort was very positive. We do apologize that you had a less than stellar experience with our restaurant. Chef Frank and his team have worked very hard this year on increasing the flavor and variety in our menu, emphasizing locally-sourced seafood, meat, poultry and dairy and fresh produce from our own organic farm. We do have some lovely local restaurants in the area that are worth a try, which is why we offer our guests a variety of meal plans based on their needs. Thank you again for your feedback, at Arenas Restaurant we will try even harder to please!
