“Fantastic surfing lesson for 14 family members!”
Reviewed August 22, 2014 via mobile

Based on the positive reviews we read on TripAdvisor, we decided to make the 80-minute drive from the RIU to Playa Grande to learn how to surf from Mike and Michelle and their boys. And it was totally worth it! We were a group of 14 family members with ages ranging from 9 y.o. to 72 y.o., plus a few non-swimmers in our group who were EXTREMELY nervous about being in the ocean. In the end, everyone had a fantastic time, including the non-swimmers!

Mike and Michelle set us up with four instructors so we had a very good teacher-to-student ratio and the non-swimmers were assured of VIP treatment. They have their own walking trail to a secluded part of Playa Grande so you don't have to worry about learning how to surf with a hoard of other people. And they timed the tide just right for us so the waves were "Goldilocks" (not too big/rough or too small/boring). We were provided a nice selection of fruits during break time for sustenance (cuz surfing is hard work!). And we never felt rushed the entire time.

Thanks, Mike and Michelle for a great day! Memories to cherish forever!

“Great for the kids and grandkids!”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

This was an easy and convenient way for our five grandchildren and four children to do some surfing. Mike, the owner, is from Ontario, Canada and handled everything very well. The beach area at Playa Grande was very secluded, and the surfing area was all sand bottom (no rocks or reef) and with a very gradual slope. We had two instructors, Brian and Angelo< who were great with the kids and very helpful for those who had never surfed. The made it look like so much fun that even grandpa (me-age 70) got out and caught a few waves. It was just a great experience for all of us and I can highly recommend it for families with younger children (ours were 10-16).

“Best surf Lessons!”
Reviewed August 9, 2014

I highly recommend Point Break Surfing during your stay in the area. Mike and his instructors were amazing. We learned very quickly because of them. My 9 year old daughter was surfing on her first try! She loved it and didn't want the 2 hour lesson to end. I never thought I would be able to surf and they made it so easy! The beach they teach in (Playa Grande) is very secluded so you don't have to worry about crashing into other beach-goers. It was just us! Mike will only take you out at the perfect mid-tide time. Perfect for beginners. A few days after our lesson, we spent a day in Tamarindo at the beach and felt sorry for all the people we saw learning to surf in a crowded beach with no waves. Wasted their money & time! Go with Point Surf , they know what they're doing!

“Great experience and exceptional value”
Reviewed August 4, 2014

I experienced a 2 hour surf lesson on the beautiful beach of playa grande. The instruction was excellent, thorough and within a few tries I was up on the board. Mike was great and the instructor was patient and very knowledgeable.

Point break surfing has a great reputation and brand that they definitely lived up to.

“Must-Do!”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

We chose Point Break after receiving a recommendation. So glad we did! Two hours on a secluded beach. Semi-private lesson. Our kids were really bummed when it was over. The owner is very safety-oriented and speaks English (he's Canadian). He was great to chat with. Highly recommend and cost is very reasonable.
