Based on the positive reviews we read on TripAdvisor, we decided to make the 80-minute drive from the RIU to Playa Grande to learn how to surf from Mike and Michelle and their boys. And it was totally worth it! We were a group of 14 family members with ages ranging from 9 y.o. to 72 y.o., plus a few non-swimmers in our group who were EXTREMELY nervous about being in the ocean. In the end, everyone had a fantastic time, including the non-swimmers!
Mike and Michelle set us up with four instructors so we had a very good teacher-to-student ratio and the non-swimmers were assured of VIP treatment. They have their own walking trail to a secluded part of Playa Grande so you don't have to worry about learning how to surf with a hoard of other people. And they timed the tide just right for us so the waves were "Goldilocks" (not too big/rough or too small/boring). We were provided a nice selection of fruits during break time for sustenance (cuz surfing is hard work!). And we never felt rushed the entire time.
Thanks, Mike and Michelle for a great day! Memories to cherish forever!
