“Relaxing, Relaxing, Relaxing!!!! oh, and Beautiful”
Reviewed January 5, 2017 for a stay in December 2016

First off let me say Greg and Gladys are great! They happened to be staying in one of the Townhouses well while we were there and they were even more friendly in person than by phone or email!

Now about the property. The grounds of Stef Surf are beautiful and give an overwhelming sense of privacy even with there being 4 units plus Francisco and Marling (caretakers). The gardens make you feel like you are in the jungle! We stayed in El Toucan the far end unit. There was 6 of us, Myself my wife and our two girls as well as my wife's parents. While a 3rd bedroom would have been nice, we were not at all feeling cramped. The unit had everything you could need, we ate breakfast every morning there with groceries from the Super Wendy down the road. We also cooked a couple lunches and dinners as well. (saved on some eating out costs!)
Francisco and Marling take great care of the grounds and are very helpful with anything you may need.
Lis the personal concierge was very helpful as well. She speaks great English and setup our catamaran tour and zip line tour for us. She also gave us some general information about the area and helped us rent a car for a few days. But the best was with the wifi we could contact Lis via text, so she would let us know when the monkeys were out and about (she only lives a block away).

The beaches were great as well! You can reach a several of them if you don't mind short walks (15-30 minutes). Each of them offers something different from sand types to waves (big or calm) to crowds (people or none!).

There were a several good restaurants within walking distance. See Greg and Gladys's list! Got to see fire dancers one evening while eating Italian. Many Italian restaurants in the area. My father-in-law had a good steak tenderloin at Casa Celeste! Great Pizza as well!

Definitely the most relaxing vacation we have had!

Thanks to you all for a great vacation!

“Beautiful, relaxing property - great location.”
Reviewed October 9, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We arrived in Costa Rica and took a shuttle to Stef Surf from Liberia Airport. We were greeted at the property by Francisco and his wife, Marling. He was very helpful, friendly and informative. The unit at Stef Surf that we had was quiet, well equipped, clean end very relaxing. We had the pool area to ourselves - it was rainy season (but not rainy)!

We rented a golf cart for a day to tour the area. We would highly recommend 'Rent a golf cart Coata Rica'. t The owners, Chip and Jennifer, are great to work with.

We were referred to Liz and she arranged massages and also arranged our car rental for the duration of our vacation in Costa Rica. She provided us with an SUV at a much more reasonable fee than we would have found in our own.

The property at Stef Surf is well maintained, feels like you are in a private bird and butterfly sanctuary. We were two couples travelling together and would recommend. Stef Surf when visiting Playa Potrero.

Liked best: The location was private yet convenient to the beach and local restaurants. The grounds were very well kept - we felt like we were away from it all.
Liked least: We had to purchase salt and pepper which we feel should have been provided. Local grocery stores are expensive.

“Beautiful property in a great location”
Reviewed September 9, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Loved the house and property - perfect for our family of 4. The size and layout of 4 townhouses facing the pool gave it a quiet, private feeling without being isolated. The verandas off each of the bedrooms, the pool (as beautiful as it looks in the photos) and short walk to Playa Potrero (and yes you can hear the waves from the master bedroom!) made it easy for everyone to relax and enjoy the surroundings but the real value added were the wonderful caretakers Francisco and Marling as well as Lis Garcia (the concierge) who gave us great tips on nearby activities and was a huge help with the car rental (note: renting a car can be very expensive in Costa Rica because of the roads - we had originally made a reservation prior to our trip and were shocked when we arrived at the airport at what the actual cost of a week's rental would be. With Lis' help, we instead rented a car locally on our 3d day there at a much lower cost (which was perfect as we spent the first days exploring the many nearby beaches on foot)) . Communication with Greg and Gladys was excellent from the start and they provided us with a wealth of information that really helped us make the most of our time there.

“Costa Rica and Stef Surf are Absolutely Fabulous!”
Reviewed August 21, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Stef Surf and the surrounding area will provide you with the most wonderful vacation. The location is close to so many wonderful beaches and activities, we consider it paradise. This is our family's 2nd trip to Costa Rica and specifically Stef Surf. The house and it's amenities are first rate. The property, pool and houses are clean and very welcoming. If you are looking for a low key but wonderful vacation Stef Surf and Costa Rica are it. We would spend the day at one of the many beaches and then always stop at the local fruit stand on the way home. The restaurants around the area are great too. We love Stef Surf and Costa Rica

“Awesome relaxing family vacation”
Reviewed July 31, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We searched many listings and we were so pleased to find monkeys and parrots! We prefer the more remote setting without tourists crawling everywhere. Our townhouse was very clean, up to date and was surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. We had a 3 minute walk to the beach, which was completely deserted and had to ourselves. Lis and Francisco were very helpful with all our needs, including getting an air mattress for our 7 year old. Francisco was even so nice to help us identify a few frogs we heard at night. There were ants, but Francisco quickly sprayed around the house and they never really bothered us. Francisco arranged to have fresh red snapper and sea bass delivered to us, which we cooked on our grill outside. We had a great adventure there and would recommend monkeys and parrots for anyone wanting to have a relaxing vacation!

“Wonderful return to CR”

My wife and I took children and grandchildren back to CR to consider building on property we own. We used this property as a focal point of trip and it worked out just fine. Wonderful staff on site and people with intelligent advice available. Kids loved the pool and fact we were just a short distance, by foot or car, from beaches and wonderful inexpensive restaurants. We look forward to our return to CR in October.

“Wonderful Accommodation for a Peaceful Vacation”
Reviewed April 15, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We stayed at El Tucan, the 4th of 4 units in Stef Surf. It was just as pictured, lush and lovely gardens, private, clean and spacious home. Excellent communication and pre-arrival information. Good A/C, important for the hottest month of the year!! Working wifi. The pool is great - super long for laps if you are so inclined. What makes this place great, however, is the attentive work of the caretakers, Edwin, Francisco, and Marling, who are so friendly and helpful. The pool is cleaned twice a day, for goodness sake! Your patio and walkways swept at least daily!
The icing on the cake was Lis - good heavens, she made our stay perfect. She stopped by our 2nd morning (Monday) and told us about all kinds of things we could do and stayed in contact by text. She booked a sunset sail/ snorkel trip and tours/ lunch at El Viejo Wetlands. Both were great. She also arranged for a rental car to be brought to us. We hadn't initially wanted to rent, but found the driving to be quite easy. Roads aren't marked by number, rather all intersections have arrows pointing to where you want to go - how simple is that? Waze works too, which we used to make our way to the wetlands - beware the gravel roads ...
One thing I didn't anticipate was how dirty/dusty it is here in the dry season. Your feet will get dirty if you wear sandals, otherwise your shoes will get dirty. There are no sidewalks and many roads are unpaved, especially if walking to restaurants or the beach - which is simple to do from here. Also, it gets dark pretty early, so don't forget a flashlight when heading out to dinner on foot ( there was one by the door, but I had my mini headlamp.) One great thing about this area is that it is a mix of traditional and newer development. It is easy to get a feel for the real Costa Rica here.
Groceries are very expensive nearby, but much more reasonable at the MegaSuper nearer Tamarindo. The groceries sell beer, wine, and spirits -- sweet!
The beaches are lovely, quite undeveloped, and mostly lacking shade. If you like to hang out on the beach, a portable shade would be really nice. Playa Potrero has enough slope to it that walking with a bad knee is a little uncomfortable. Each beach is a little different. We really liked Playa Grande, Playa Dante, and Playa Prieta.
We found some great places to eat, including the Shack, Casa Celeste, Hibiscus, and the Surf Box. Beware of the naughty howler monkeys dropping half- eaten mangos on the metal roof at the Shack!
