The Congo Cafe is a rare find in Playas del Coco...a pleasing combination cafe, restaurant, retail and art shoppe. One of the very few places that actually sells good quality items from Costa Rican artists in a very nice setting. The staff are all unfailingly attentive and helpful, and it serves the best coffee drinks in town (IMHO). One of the few places that you can get decaf espresso (which is saying a lot in a country that loves its coffee strong).
Maria and Bill, who own the Congo, and several others like it, are delightful, and always have time to talk to their customers.
Check out the artist Serrano from San Jose, who paints beautiful bold works (see pic) at, for now, affordable prices.
If you are in for lunch, the Congo Croquette is amazing...a tuna based roll lightly pan-fried with a side salad of chick peas, avocado and small broccoli florets.
