“Made in Costa Rica - The Most Fun Ever”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

My family and I were in Costa Rica over the Christmas holidays and went on this tour with Amy from Avispa's Adventures. Amy took us to an area close to Lake Arenal called Tiluron. We stopped on the way at a small local restaurant for an authentique Tico lunch and got some Chicheronas to snack on the way. This tour is all about how average families in Costa Rica live. Amy took us to a home where the family made and sold homemade cheese. It was explained to us how the cheese was made and it was so good that my Mom bought some to take home. We got to meet the whole family and gave them a bag of apples and grapes which is a traditional Costa Rican Christmas gift. The next place we went to was to a lady's home who raises all kinds of butterflies. We got to go into the netted area with the butterflies and also got to see the different stages of butterfly growth. After we left there we went to Alverro's house, he grows and sells coffee and macadamia nuts. Alverro showed us the machines that he made to shell the macadamia nuts and to roast the coffee beans. We also got to watch his family making homemade tamales. My Mom took home tamales, coffee, and Alverro gave me a bag of macadamia nuts. I really liked this tour because it really showed my family how people is Costa Rica live in their daily lives and all the people we met were very happy to show us what they did even though it was the Christmas season. This is a really good tour to go on if you want to learn more about the Costa Rican people in this area. Amy this was super good tour I learned a lot. Thanks for taking us on this tour.

“Outstanding excellent fabulous wonderful”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

My husband and I along with my sister and her husband visited In September. This was our second trip to Costa Rica and had the pleasure to meet with Amy and Avispa tours the first time! Amy, Chepe, Eduardo were our only choice the second trip out there. She advised us about a Villa that was absolutely gorgeous and private. It was a 3 bedroom, full kitchen, living room, 2 bath, patio and small pool! The best! Great rate too!

She personalized everything from a river trip where we saw so much wild life, monkey's, crocodiles, and so much more! It was simply amazing. We also zip lined, went horse back riding, shopped but in the "real Costa Rica". She let us do things on our time and never rushed us through anything. She topped our trip off to an outstanding day trip to Nicaragua and we spent all day there! Amazing with the people that worked with her to get us across the border to showing us how the people live! Volcanos, river trips, food! The guides were fabulous and showed us so much that we needed 2 or 3 days there!

To say that this was excellent is an understatement! Amy and her team made us feel like family and never made us feel like it was a tour. It felt comfortable safe and treated us like royalty! Never a moment of discomfort or. Dissatisfaction! Amy is very busy and will always return your calls! She focuses first on the people she has with her but always get back to you! The lines of communication are sometimes rough in CR but she will call you!

I will not use anyone except Amy and Avispa when we return in a couple of months! We already pre-planned some of the things we want to do when we return! You will not be disappointed with her and her team! They are amazing and made this a trip a "trip of a life time" that I still talk about and recommend

Thank you to Amy for making this the best vacation ever!

“Fantastic Tour Service in Costa Rica!!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I cannot say enough about Avispas Adventures! My husband had been dreaming of traveling to Costa Rica for ages, so we decided to go with our two sons, aged 19 & 21 over the holidays in December 2012. I had gotten a personal recommendation about Amy Lentz, the owner, and she made a huge difference in the success of our trip! We learned so much and had tons of fun on our various tours.

Amy spoke with me in the states prior to our trip to ensure that I was making the best tour selections for our family. I would go online, read up on all of the adventure options, talk to the kids and then Amy would share the pros and cons...so we ended up with a great array of activities. Then she went even farther to organize our tours on the best days possible, considering we were there over Christmas. Some days we had a driver to get us from point A to point B (much nicer than driving ourselves in Costa Rica) and other days we had the best tour guide in Guanacaste, CHEPE! He is knowledgable, friendly and fun. And the greatest thing with Avispas is that you can tailor the tours to do what's fun for your group. We could detour to see a local market and try a local snack (pork rinds) or see an amazing bird's nest if we asked (a beautiful macau bird!).

Our first tour was the Eco Adventure which included horse back riding up to zip lines (there were 10+ platforms & our guides were fantastic - fun but careful), then a water slide to beat all, followed by a 3 course lunch and a hot springs pool/ river adventure. It was a wonderful day...and we literally had the entire resort area to ourselves thanks to Amy's advanced planning. The next day the same location had over 100 people, so I was glad that we didn't feel rushed or crowded. Amy is VERY CAREFUL with her travelers. She takes great pains to select places and people who are concerned with your safety and comfort.

The next day we took an ATV tour along several beaches. Again Amy likes this ATV company because they do not travel along any dangerous roadways like so many other outfits...they only use back trails and our guide was a delight. Then we had lunch at a recommended restaurant and headed to another beach for a surf lesson. Exhausting but adventurous!

My favorite tour was to Nicargua to sightsee. We left very early to get to the border where we were met by two great guides on the Nicaragua side. (Our Costa Rican driver, Carlos, sat at the border all day to ensure our safety in case we needed to get back quickly for any reason...truly above and beyond.) Ronaldo's english was very good and you could see the pride they both had for their country. We went to the town of Rivas for an authentic breakfast and a tour through the market (very exciting on Christmas Eve!), then we traveled to see a potter in his workshop and get a private demonstration. We literally leaned into an active volcano and then visited the historic chuch and town square of Grenada and took a boat on Lake Nicaragua before trekking back through the border and to our hotel. It was a long day, but a great adventure and learning experience.

Our last trip was on a river boat with our favorite guide, Chepe. He took the time to show us the sugar cane fields and the processing plant nearby, and he shared with us about the industry of the area. We learned alot while having fun. The river tour was great...more birds , crocodiles and monkeys than you could imagine! Thanks to Chepe we even saw an elusive macau in it's nest and then in flight and some very boisterous Holler monkeys. And we finished the afternoon with delicous lunch at a local restaurant that Amy pre-selected. The food was delicous and the proprietors worked hard to accomodate our North American tastes and desire for clean facilities.

Overall we would not have had nearly the experinces without Avispas...and you leave feeling you have truly made new friends for a lifetime. THANKS Chepe & Amy!

“Amy is Awesome”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We were greeted by Avispas Adventures when we landed in Liberia. We were driven to the grocery store to get provisions for our week's stay because we had a kitchen at our place at the Four Seasons. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us wonderful information about the country and its people. He spoke English, (we didn't speak Spanish) and was very cordial. All the while Amy checked in on us to make sure we were being taken care of. During the week, we did several excursions trips with them and they were all wonderful. They provided snacks in their van which seated many people and was very comfortable. Their web site is wonderful and they had many tours we could have taken given more time. We were staying at the Four Seasons and their excursions were more expensive so we felt we did well with Aviapas. I would recommend Avispas. They will do just about anything your heart desires and with a smile, and they are always checking up to see if things are going OK.

“Above and Beyond”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Amy at Avispas provided far more than simply booking adventure tours. She personally came to our villa to find out what the right trips for our group would be. One day we were lost, through no fault of hers, and she sent one of her many connections to meet us and follow him to our destination. To top it off, we were able to contact her with her phone that she had lent us. Can't say enough about the service she provided us. We were hoping to see turtles nesting on a beach that was a couple hour drive. She advised us that we had missed them by a couple weeks. This saved us from wasting a night of our vacation as well as the $$ that a less reputable guide may have collected knowing full well our chances of seeing the turtles was slim. I could go on but just take my word, Avispas is the service to use.
