“Great stay”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

My wife and had a great stay at Villa Buena Onda. It was chosen as the final boutique hotel of three we stayed at during our Costa Rican honeymoon. We ended on a high. The staff were great, funny and accommodating. The hotel itself was all we had hoped for with great views of the ocean. The shuttle meant getting into town was a breeze. We spent four nights and did activities on three of the days. These were all organised by the hotel management and all delivered to our expectations. We did the zip line tour, scuba dived with bull sharks and did the hidden beaches tour with some deep sea fishing. Food was great and plentiful, cocktails were yummy. Free and fast internet, shower with a view etc etc. Recommended and we will be back!

Room Tip: We were on the second floor corner room and were very happy with it. It has a balcony and a shower...

This hotel lives up to the excellent reviews. It is small & personal with exceptional staff that make you feel like a treasured guest. The extra touches made our trip special - the free lesson in making totillas, the " shuttle" which actually meant Sergio taking us in to town, waiting for us when we shopped, stopping at various shops on the way back to the hotel & showing us the local sights & views . He then took us to the beach & watched our belongings whilst we swam & sat & waited until we were ready to return - an exceptionsl & complimentary service. The rooms are lovely, cocktails great & the food nice. We went on to the Four Seasons after bit Villa Beuna offers just as good an experience but in a different way, it us intimate & unique.

Room Tip: All nice, we had an upstairs room .

We chose Villa Buena because it was a Boutique Hotel and didn't allow small children. The Villa is beautiful in every aspect, spacious rooms, beautiful grounds, PHENOMINAL staff! Never before have we received such personalized service from the concierge, Chef, Bartender, and even the complimentary shuttle driver...we couldn't have made a better choice to meet our expectations. The Ocean view was visible from our room, our shower, the pool, and while dining, yet we were far enough removed from the ocean to provide peaceful solitude. The quaintness of the Villa allowed for the development of new friendships with not only the staff but other couples . We will definitely be returning!

We recently stayed at Villa Buena Onda in Playa de Coco, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This little 7 suite boutique hotel was absolutely stunning. Full course, and muy rico, breakfast (desayuno), lunch (almuerzo), and dinner (la cena) are included with your stay. The foods range from local fair to American and European options, with full menu service and drinks with every meal. The waiter doubles as the bartender and will also make drinks for purchase, which are also delicious. Christen and Javier are the waitstaff/bartenders and one or the other will serve you your meal- both very courteous, friendly, helpful staff. The chef is amazing- the food is absolutely out of this world- like something you'd expect at an exclusive luxury resort. The front desk staff, Jennifer, Dayana and Shelley- are incredibly helpful, friendly, and courteous. The entire staff will practice your Spanish with you, or speak English if you prefer, but either way there is no difficulty in communicating with such a wonderful staff. There are only 7 rooms, so the entire grounds are quiet, peaceful, and it is easy to find yourselves the sole inhabitants of the pool/terrace, and we had neither children nor noisy/obnoxious guests while we were there. There were several other couples at the resort with us who gave us helpful tips about treasures and deals on yours in town, and who were very pleasant to enjoy dinner with at night. The rooms were luxurious and amazing, the balcony views breathtaking, and the local iguanas, howler monkeys, and birds enjoyable. We are definitely going back to Villa Buena Onda whenever we go to Costa Rica- it was a one of a kind experience.

Room Tip: The ocean view balcony cannot be beat, but the poolside rooms have direct access to the pool, bar, d...

Villa Buena Onda was a perfect place for a week long vacation. Close to the airport (Liberia), easy car ride from great beaches, wonderful amenities, I could just keep going!
Rooms were beautiful (and spacious). Staff was very helpful and friendly. We booked a bunch of excursions through Buena Onda and they easily managed all the details.
The meals were all included and the food was delicious. A lovely (and well priced) Happy Hour was a nice way to unwind each day.
We were very happy with our entire experience. Would strongly recommend!

Room Tip: We had the pool view suite. It was great. No real need to splurge for the ocean view version.

My husband and I decided to take a "babymoon" (I'm 5 months pregnant) and had pretty strict criteria when we were initially looking at locations across the globe to travel to. When we settled on Costa Rica we relied heavily on reviews left by other tripadvisor members to make our decision. When we first stumbled across the reviews for Villa Buena Onda, we were slightly skeptical and in disbelief by how many incredible reviews were consistently left by others but decided to trust our fellow tripadvisor travelers. We stayed from 4/13/14-4/19/14 and we were not only so sad to leave, we know we will likely NEVER have another outstanding experience in every way like the one we had here! Everything people had to say in the reviews my husband and I couldn't agree with more. The staff is beyond exceptional! Shelley and Diana went out of their way to assist us daily with any questions or requests we had and were so likable, pleasant, and professional. Unlike larger hotels/resorts they treated us like friends and didn't hesitate to take the time- as long as we needed- to help us out or even just engage in a friendly chat. They were extremely helpful in recommending local shops, restaurants, things to do, and went above and beyond to assist us.

The hotel rooms were by far the nicest we have ever stayed in and it will be hard to find something as superior. Our bathroom was extremely large- almost like another room! The shower and the views from our room and large wrap around balcony were to die for. The room itself was extremely spacious, décor beautiful, and closed closet system spanned the entire length of the wall which provided more than enough room to unpack and feel at home. We also slept so well in the comfy luxurious king bed!

The hotel grounds and pool were out of this world. The nice man who cleans the pool every morning takes time to make sure it is crystal clean. The pool chairs are beautiful wood padded- not the cheap plastic ones which makes laying out by the pool soaking in the sun and the views beyond enjoyable. The interior of the ground floor of the hotel felt like a luxurious home and everything was so open and airy.

The food was out of this world! My husband and I had originally planned to dine out a few nights but ended up only eating out once and deciding that every single meal at the hotel was much better than anything we could have gotten off location (including the alcoholic drinks made by Christian and the smoothies for me!). The servers are so personable and kind, taking the time to get to know each person and teach a bit of Spanish if desired. The chef was AMAZING as well! As a vegetarian already with a strict pregnancy diet added in by my doctor to manage acid reflux symptoms the chef and entire staff were well aware of my dietary needs. If I ordered something that might have had something from my long list of "I can't consume" they came right back out from the kitchen to alert me and offered an alternative. I have never experienced this level of concern by anyone while dining out! Further, there were many options for me on the menu that were vegetarian and dietary friendly and the chef went out of his way on several occasions to offer me a "special" meal which each time was outstanding! My husband and I agreed that this was the best food we have ever eaten while vacationing and even rates high among our list of local favorite in Savannah where we are from! One last thing that really touched us I would like to share occurred on the morning we were leaving to head home. We had to depart from the hotel 30 minutes before breakfast would begin (already at an early 6:30 timeframe). The chef and server came in at 5:50am and collected our choices from the menu of what we desired just to have everything prepared and packed up for us to take on our long trip back to San Jose! We were beyond appreciative of this extremely generous parting gift.

Some little tidbits worth mentioning for other readers: If you can, spend the extra money and fly into the Liberia airport instead of San Jose. We flew into San Jose and the drive was 4+ hours long. The main "highway" is pretty brutal and rugged with 1 lane roads, lots of turns, rocks, dirt, and construction. Do not bring pool or beach towels- the hotel provides great ones for each. A beach blanket might be preferred, however. Also, the hotel toiletries provided are exceptional. Unlike anything I have ever seen. Organic, excellent smelling products in full size containers. Save yourself the packing room and skip on body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Also, I would highly suggest renting a car. You get to see so much and navigating around really is quite simple. The 3 beaches are o.k. but the prettiest one is about 30 minutes away with crystal clear water and sand (Conchal).

This hotel was beyond exceptional and unique in every way. We felt truly relaxed unlike stays at other large resorts we have gone to. The staff is remarkable, the grounds are beautiful, and there isn't one thing I would change! We will DEFINITELY be back! To all the amazing staff of Villa Buena Onda: THANK YOU FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE, AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!

Room Tip: We stayed on a top floor corner room and had an amazing shower with gorgeous views! The pool floor r...

We stayed at Villa Buena Onda for 1 week and it was the best part of our vacation. The rooms are amazing and the view is breath taking! We could not asked for a better more enjoyable time. We will be staying there every time we are in Costa Rica.
