We had a wonderful and spacious junior Suite. Its a Building with four Bungalows. Our Room was close to the beach and the pool, we only needed the buggy to go to the lobby, where you only go if you leave the hotel. The room was very big and very clean. Big and comfortable Box-spring bed. I love them. They have at least 5 restaurants, we tended to go the the restaurants with local food. The breakfast buffet was amazing, lots of choice and fresh. Also with egg-station. The beach is nice and clean, when you leave the hotel to go to the beach, massage and quads (not from the hotel) are awaiting you. I didn't like this, but well, this people need to live as well. Very nice hotel, nice and friendly staff. Any time again.

The trip was fabulous and the resort excellent except for the oriental cuisine which you should take a pass on, the food and service were good. Monkeys, birds, iguanas and lots of other animals on the property make it a perfect beginning for adventure. Don't miss volcano tours.

My new wife and I had our wedding here on May 2, so we stayed for about a week. We had absolutely no issues ever getting a reservation at any time, even the day of. We even booked two reservations, one for 14 people, and one for 8 people at the same restaurant, the same day and were able to be accommodated with no problems at all. We thought both breakfast buffets were good, not great and it was nice to grab a quick lunch at the place by the pool, or grab a pizza or two to bring back to our chairs by the pool. The pizzas were great.

We stayed in the Royal Beach Club, Tower 1. Andres and Nelson were very helpful when we needed them, which was rare. We had a suite on the third floor, room 1307. Very nice room with a large balcony and hot tub, which we used once. Ordered room service a couple of times and it was decent.

The bartenders all over the resort were all great. They were quick, polite, and usually remembered your drink order. We were with a large group of former bartenders and service industry workers so we realize how important tipping is, so always made sure to throw a few bucks down for each round. It goes a long way.

The main reason for our trip was our wedding and I have to say, it was seamless and everything went perfectly, even if it did downpour right before and drizzle some during the ceremony. Yoel was great to work with throughout the entire process and made every step so easy. The Westin is lucky to have an employee like him and anyone looking for a good place to have their wedding should look into this resort.

A group of us played golf one day, and although very expensive, it was a nice course. I forgot to wear a collared shirt and was forced to buy one before playing. Although it was a nice Nike polo, I don't think it was worth the $115 I paid for it. We also took a catamaran tour with the Lazy Lizard which I will highly recommend to anyone. For $65 a person, it was about a 5.5 hour trip, with food, plenty of drinks, and snorkeling. Money very well spent.

The one downside of the trip was my wife and a few others did complain about being sick for a couple of the days. I didn't suffer any of the symptoms, but I can understand why people are complaining and this is something the resort should address.

We were not with a group, and we paid for the gold package and stayed in the Royal Beach Club Bungalows. The first of our 4 days, our concierge Bergen made all of our reservations up front. Bergen was not only magnificent, but also eerily telepathic--nearly every time I was ready to go walk somewhere on the 600-700 acre property, he was waiting to drive me! We were so impressed with the cleanliness, high level of service all over the resort, food quality and selection, the wide range of options for excursions through Swiss Travel (Verny was great), and the overall responsiveness to our needs. The hotel responsibly alerted guests to the potential for Norovirus, and we did not encounter any issues. My husband had 2 days of deep sea fishing, and on the last day of our vacation, caught mahi mahi. The hotel accepted the filets from the boat and the chef at the French restaurant cooked our fresh fish for our last hurrah! Awesome! I plan to go back in December for a bit cooler weather! We thoroughly enjoyed the river tour! The spa services were also quite nice--I tried the massage, pedicure, and facial. The wide range of fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, fish, cheeses, and other food was impressive. They had daily activities (yoga, water sports, runs, etc.) and something for everyone!

We would also recommend going to the rain forest and Arenal volcano (there are excursions from the Westin resort, but the drive is 3-4 hours each way), which we did separately for a couple of nights at the Kioro Resort in La Fortuna...subject of another review....

Bottom line...spring for the gold package as it makes a big difference and we felt it was a good value.

Room Tip: The Royal Beach bungalows are far from the madding crowd---at the far end of the resort so they are very quiet! They are also close to the big pools (you have access to a more private pool with no children if you want) and several restaurants. It is a haul to the Italian restaurant and main lobby, but the transportation on the property is quite good and usually quick. There are some hiccups though. It is not always perfect. Rooms facing the beach are quieter--carts and other vehicles otherwise might be disruptive to sensitive sleepers.

The rooms and property blew me away. Kayaked and snorkeled for free. Their tropical drink mixes were great and the service was what you would expect at Westin.
Didn't even get to play golf but will definitely next time I'm there.

Room Tip: Royal beach club third floor has nice views of the property
