This is a hard place for me to review, it is a great property, my only real complaint is entirely not their fault.

The good: The place is beautiful!!! Very spread out and much nicer than a giant high rise hotel. Service is phenomenal, just needs to be taken in the context that it is in Costa Rica and not LA or Miami. The people who work there are great, we found no exception, my advice is to be nice to them! They are rightfully proud of their Country and glad to have you there as guests. Larn a bit of Spanish before you go and its easier, the staff is very fluent in English but it is easier sometimes in Spanish.

The pool is incredible! Its huge, gorgeous, has plenty of lounges and has a bar! Really dont need much more. There are lots of different areas with vary levels of activity and sun.

The food: Restaurants were great! Excellent service, they will bring you all you want to eat or drink. We had a great time in all, but Mediterra was our favorite. Perfect meal, great staff and we hung out and several after dinner drinks, a great evening.

The beach: Nice but not the reason to stay here. Great for an early morning walk but otherwise we were at the pool.

The gym: Way better than we expected, not huge but enough to work off a few of the many drinks!

The bar: The only complaint is the extremely weak drinks, they will put you in a sugar coma after a few. Tip, order a drink of what you want and a double on the rocks of what ever liquor is in your drink. they are happy to oblige!

Obviously we loved it here and will return many times!! For a suspension of reality and escape from the cold its perfect. Add in Starwood points/benefits and its even better. The only downside is its not a "pure" Costa Rica experience. Its just a bit too nice and well done and big! We love CR and have been several times and thoroughly enjoy the smaller family owned hotels and interaction with life there as a whole. That is a very different experience. If you just want a great resort stay at the Westin! For a real CR experience, spend a few nights here and then a few at Samarra or Manuel Antonio for the real deal!

A few tips:
If you are planning on getting around, just rent a SUV its easy to drive there, an adventure though!
Dont eat lunch at the Liberia airport, they have the most expensive bad food in the whole country!!!
Buy your departure tax stamp BEFORE you get to the airport, most banks sell them.

we stayed for only two nights at this all-inclusive, but i wish we had stayed more. i was worried about the restaurants as all-inclusives are not typically known for their food. we dined at the faisanela one night and les candales the second night. both were much better than i anticipated. the service was a bit sloppy and once dinner was done, so were the drinks and any other forms of service. in other words, these aren't restaurants where you can linger and chat, but that didn't bother us too much.

the room was gorgeous - great bed and great linens. the bathtub was huge, but served only as decoration because it would have taken probably 3-4 hours to fill up due to the miniscule stream of water it was capable of.

overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely return.

Visited this property in March on 2013. This is a very large resort with villas housing 8 rooms. There are 42 villas on the property plus other buildings in the beach club. If you go to the regular part the resort( not the upgrade which is the beach club),you have access to everything minus the beach club. For the record, the upgrade only means you get your own private pool and a butler that helps with restaurant reservations. Before you read on please know that this is a high end hotel and i would say 50 seems to be the average age of vacationers. This hotel also does a lot of conventions and thats where you will get a mix of people and ages. For the most part is it a laid back kind of place.

Then property has a huge pool with nice lounge chairs all around and contrary to other resorts, you have chairs available any time. You dont have to get up super early to reserve. There is one swim up bar in the pool. Any drink you want, they will make it. There is also 2 lunch restaurants around the pool, a pizza and pasta parlour and another burger joint. Both places have excellent food.
There is also a a kiddie pool, ping pong tables and other kids games in the pool area. You should know that in the whole week i was there i can count on 2 hands how many kids there were. This is not a family resort.

There is one buffet restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is beyond excellent. It is flavourful with lots of choice of everything. Fish, chicken, beef, pork, pasta, fresh fruit, desert, whatever you want, they have it. And if they don't, they will make it for you.

There are also quite a few a la carte restaurants. They are all delicious, but you must try the Bamboo restaurant. Its a thai restaurant, fresh sushi, spring rolls, pad thai, fish. I would have eaten there all 7 nights. There is Italian, medetaranian, french, latin. All were great. I found the beef especially tasty!

There is entertainment every day, but it is not very good. In fairness, only a handful of people came out to watch per night. There is a bar right beside the entertainment section that closes at 11 pm and a disco-sports bar right beside it that closes at 2am. Its empty as most people seem to go in after dinner.

There is a beautiful golf course on the property and the golfers really complimented it. I am not one and therefore did not go.

There is a lot of excursions you could do, i did the ATV and ziplining and that was well worth the money. Especially the atv ride that takes you ziplining, you really get to see the towns and mountsins.

There is a spa in the resort but very overpriced. Note there is locals set up outside in the beech area and you get a massage on the beach for 30 dollars a hour versus 125 in the spa. I had a massage and it was good. Also, note the beaches in coata rica are all public and therefore not exclusive to the hotels. There are people selling merchedise outside but are not at all agressive, friendly if anyting.

Last but not least, the rooms have a living room area with a seperate bedroom. There is a fully stocked fridge, 24 hour room service( you must try the room service food, its incredible), safe etc. please note WI-fi is free in the lobby only. Its 12 dollars a day for room internet but its slow and not worth the money.

This is a fantastic resort with excellent food and amenaties. I would recommend for a honey moon, relaxation or sight seeing. This is not for the 20 someting party animals. Also, being a pricey option it does weed them out. A SUPER GREAT holiday.

Room Tip: The 30 section of villas seem to be in the middle of the resort.

Dear lluvztravelz,

Thank you very much for sharing this simply amazing review of your beautiful resort! I am glad you enjoyed… just about everything we had to offer!

I am especially happy that you liked our Mitra Buffet Restaurant. We sincerely strive to make this experience a unique one, and our Executive Chef, though overlooking every aspect of our food quality, presentation and consistency at all our venues, takes extra care of our main buffet alternative.

And you correctly pinpointed our market’s preference… Westin’s goal is to provide for a very relaxing and comforting experience; I am glad you enjoyed it.

Muchas gracias,

Traveling as a group of 25 for our company's President's Club - The Westin passed with flying colors! It began with the Swiss Travel company that picked us up at the airport to our private check in and special cocktail upon arrival. All our rooms were even ready when we got there. The Deluxe Junior suites were a very good size, fridge stocked with beers, soda & water (Restocked everyday) The pool was huge and more than enough lounge chairs for everyone. The swim up bar was very popular and the bartenders worked hard! The restaurants served very good food, but it was hard to get reservations unless you booked a couple days in advance. The fitnes center was a good size with some weights, 6 treadmills and other cardio equipment. But - a nice run at sunrise was the best way to start the day. As for activities - thru the Westin - you could use their kayaks or bicycles. They would also coordinate almost any excursion you wanted - although many were full day activities. The 4 hour sunset catamaran sail was THE BEST! The boat was amazing and the cleanest thing I've ever seen. Your other option was to go out onto the beach and look for a guy named Erik Garcia. (Yes - he is a legend on Trip advisor) He wears a light blue shirt and works for Conchal Adventures. He is the master coordinator. From ATVs to Zip Line from Taxi service to Horse back riding - that man does it all. He takes credit cards too. To top it off - his wife Gigi does massages on the beach too - $ 25/hr. Our friends used her and said she was fabulous! There is one town within walking distance Brasilito - we ate lunch on the beach at Camaron Dorado - great people & great food. Then you also need to take the 20 minute taxi into Tamarino - great shopping and restaurants and after 10:30pm - the nightlife really took off. Costa Rica is a beautiful and safe area - I hope I get to come back again soon! This is by far the best President's club trip we've ever had.

Room Tip: Most activites and restaurants are near the pool area. Ask to get a room closer to the activity or...

I've stayed here MANY times now and can't praise it enough. The resort is gorgeous, clean and seems to go on forever. The Pool is giant and the beach is clear and beautiful. There are so many options for food and drink and you will not be disappointed. I'm counting the weeks until I return.

Room Tip: I rent out the condos and stay with my entire family (accommodates 5-6)

We've visited Costa Rica 5 times and have visited a different part of the country each time. It's a favorite destination for us. We never stay at a big resort and typically prefer the smaller mom/pops. But we LOVED the Westin. Fabulous Beach and Pool with very clean and spacious villa-like rooms! So nice to see such a variety of restaurants at an all inlcusive resort. Great food! Many online reviews raved about Erik Garcia. I must agree - BOOK ALL YOUR EXCURSIONS through Erik Garcia on the beach. we didn't think we'd find him but low and behold- we went onto the beach via the main entrance and there he was! Just like everyone said he would be! His prices were half of the hotel's concierge and they were exactly the same trip. In fact, the river cruise we did had others from our hotel on our boat (so I know it was the exact trip) We enjoyed the horseback riding on the beach so much, we did it TWICE! The ATV ride was a thrill! The 7-day trip was amazing! We'd go back again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: try to request a room close to the beach - it puts you in a great location to walk to restaurants, p...

Stayed at the Westin for 6 days. The rooms were excellent. Clean and roomy. Pool was awesome as well as the bar in the pool. Food was great. We hit the buffet most of the time as we were super busy. Take a trip to Tamarino, it's 20 20 minute car ride. Beach is beautiful, big waves and surfring. VEry freindly. Good out to beach and take right, about 1/2 mile down is Brasadilai. Cool little village to have lunch or a beer.
You have to do the excursions! We did the 4-wheel, zipline, catamaran, and jet ski, as well as take surf lessons. Go see Erik Garcia. He is the best. Very knowledgeable. No pressure. Set us up with everything! Props to his helper Pablo, for takling care of all of us! Just loved It there. One thing I did not expect, No bugs! Maybe it was the time of the year. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend this place.

Dear Martin G,

We appreciate this review of your recent vacation in Costa Rica at our resort. We are very happy to know that everything was to your satisfaction and that we exceeded your expectations!

It is great that you took the time to visit neighboring Tamarindo town! A beautiful upbeat community with surf running through its veins and a vast array of shops and restaurants, it is a jewel of Guanacaste’s northwestern coast! I personally visit this amazing town at least once a week!

We hope to see you back at soon!

Sinceramente,
