Beautiful resort and property ! We loved our stay here. Our room was very spacious, clean and modern. The pools and property were extremely well maintained. The resort is almost like a little village. The bungalows and the tree lined streets were fabulous. We loved how easily accessible everything was. Lots of choices of resturants. The beach was fabulous. I don't know if it was the time of year we went or if the resort wasn't full but we practically had the beach to ourselves. The wildlife around the property is facinating. The Coati, iguanas, birds, and racoons were everywhere !! We loved the all-inclusive package.

Nice Resort…but if the little things drive you crazy, this may NOT be the place for you!

We liked the resort, but found a lot of little things that were annoying. For a 5* resort, I was surprised.

The rooms:

-The lights in the room, require a key to stay on. So if we wanted to charge anything in the room and go out, we always had a leave a key behind. It also would have been nice if this had been properly explained to us when we arrived.
-No bathtub in the room, I love a good soak when on vacation…
-The shower had warmish water, but it never got hot.
-There is a frosted glass door at the toilet, but no bathroom door. So from the bed if you open your eyes, you can see if someone is sitting, standing, and since the glass door doesn’t go all the way floor to ceiling, the acoustics are AWESOME!!!
-No Ipod charger, which it said in the ads it WOULD have.
-No ironing board, which it said in the ads it WOULD have, the irons has very short cords which made it hard if you did want to Iron something.
-The cupboard doors bang all bang when they are closed, the furniture creaks across the floor.

-The Resorts activities were non existent. They had them listed on board by the pool, but they weren't well promoted, and never seemed to happen. I went to the learn Spanish class. I was alone. Beach volleyball, pool volleyball, never happened.
-The jacuzzi in the pool was not hot, didn't really bubble and had no controls.
-Don't try and get a pop before 10am, none of the bars will serve you anything but water.
-The bartenders at the lobby bar could make drinks that the bartenders at the pool couldn't. I know it sounds small, but the strawberry colada's we SO GOOD at the lobby.

The resort was nice, the staff were great, the rooms were clean, the beach was alright. Like I said, if the little things irritate and annoy you may not like it here.

BOTTOM LINE: would I go back? Yes. Would I be willing to pay as much as I did this time, NO!

Fantastic resort! The pool was large & varied - tons of spots to choose from. Drinks were so varied & tasty! Loved that you were allowed to bring drinks into the pool, loved that servers walked around at lunchtime asking if you wanted pizza, which would be brought directly to you, and you could even eat it in the pool if you wanted!
Beautiful, lush grounds! Food quality & variety in the buffet was way better than other places I've been. The best a la carte restaurant by far was the Italian - yum!
The nightly entertainment was good, considering the size of the theatre.
Golf cart service around the resort was so handy. Room service being included was awesome too! The rooms alone were massive! Loved the shower area!
Organized activities weren't exactly organized/on time, so expect low attendance/change in venue/time, etc.
Beach was gorgeous! Loved how the kayaks were included, as well as snorkeling & biking. Only downside was having to walk through all the vendors pestering you as you try to get to/from the beach from/to the resort.

I want to start off by saying we were completely, 100%, more than satasfied with all of the staff. Every single staff member no matter what their job was in the hotel had said hello when we passed them. They were extremely friendly and they all acted like they were happy with their jobs and proud to work for the Westin.

We stayed at the Royal Beach Club (Tower 1) which I highly recommend. The rooms were average size but our room was by far the cleanest hotel room we have ever stayed in. It was slightly uncomfortable having the bathroom open to the bedroom. (I did read another post from someone saying the same and I did read the Westin's comment back but I have to agree with her) The concierge guys were great! That was one of the nest parts of the Royal Beach Club. They were there to make our reservations, call a shuttle when we needed one, tell us information on our trips we were taking, they fixed our safe twice, brought us chocolate covered strawberries an additional two times after the ones you get when you check in. It was also very nice having our own restraunt. The breakfast buffet was so much nicer than the one that was avaliable to everyone. The lunch was really good too! The pool for the Royal Beach Club was very large and had plenty of chairs around. There was also no children around which was really nice!

The overall resort was good. The food was pretty good. I don't think there was a meal we ate that we didn't like. All of the drinks were good as well. It was a huge dissapointment at night though. The hotel was completely dead. There was no night life what-so-ever. We checked out the disco and sports bar one evening - we were there until 11 which was the latest we stayed up because there was nothing to do. I'm not one of those people that want a huge party but it would have been nice to have drinks and socalize with people in the evenings.

The beach sucked. As soon as you walk on the beach there were cars, horses (and horse poop), and people hounding you every where. There were alot of people trying to sell stuff that we had no intrest in. We did go through Erik on the beach to book ziplining which I would normally never book through anyone on the beach but after reading the reviews here on trip advisor we decided to do it. We were going to book the catamaran through them but realized that they were writing different amounts on the paper than what we were actually paying and got bad vibes after that so we booked through Swiss Travel Company.

With all of that being said I just have to say that our whole trip wasn't great. Our building was out of water for over 8 hours. I first called at 2 and they told us it would be back on within 2 hours. I checked again at 4 -still nothing. Finally around 6pm I called and asked if we could be taken to a different room to shower they said yes but never did anything. I went and told our concierge guy and he got us into a room right away to shower which was nice. After dinner we went back up to the room just to find that we still had NO WATER. I called at 9:30 and they said wait a half an hour. I'm not really sure what time it came back on but I know it was a little after 10... Keep in mind no water means no toilet. HORRIBLE!!!

Room Tip: Royal Beach Club is a must!!!

The reviews below are comprehensive and accurate, so here are a few supplements.
1. All the beaches in Costa Rica are public, so the beach itself is not part of the resort. The beach itself is extensive and not developed but be careful when swimming because of the currents. There are kayaks at the resort, but the recreation manager advised us against using them because they tip easily and it's hard getting back in.The vendors are not too much of a nuisance, especially if you walk along the beach a bit.
2. We stayed in the Beach Club, which is very quiet, has its own pool, no children, and breakfast at the restaurant is only for those staying at the Beach Club. You can also order meals through room service at no extra cost.
3. We found all of the resort restaurants at least very good. (We did not eat at the buffet). Wine by the bottle is extra, even for all-inclusive guests, but it's free by the glass, including sparkling wine, and we found that refills are happily given.
4. We rented a 4 wheel drive at the airport. With four of us, it was almost as cheap as paying for four round-trip shuttles to the resort. It also let us make trips to the Rincon de la Vieja volcano park, which is an easy day trip and just a $10 entry fee. If you are even moderately adventurous, there's no need to pay for an organized trip, which even from the beach vendors has a huge mark-up. The park is great, not very difficult flat self-guided hike to see volcanic mud pools, monkeys, a spectacular waterfall, etc. Similarly for Tamarindo Beach, which is fun. My daughter twice took surf lessons from Iguana Surf (highly recommended) for about one third of what the resort/beach guys charged. However, driving in Costa Rica can be challenging and sometimes dangerous at night because of bicycles, kids, pedestrians, and animals in the road. If you do rent a vehicle, make sure to get a GPS since the roads are not always well signposted.
5. Without exception, all of the Costa Rican people we met were wonderfully friendly and helpful, including the resort staff. The activities staff are happy to see you participate, since most guests seem to just hang at the pools. The one slight negative about the resort is that there is not a whole lot to do at night. There are nightly shows, which I liked but the rest of my family thought were a bit lame (80s disco review for example).
So, if you get a good deal on the resort, highly recommended. But don't book through Travelocity. They twice messed up our reservations and tried to charge us twice for a second room. You then get the usual contact people in India whose job it is to tell you that they have no authority to do anything and that their manager is busy. This was no fault of the Westin company, who had nothing to do with the original booking (but did insist that we paid the double charge before we left).

Room Tip: If you can get a decent deal on the Beach Club, take it.

This Westin property has everything. Pools, beach, restaurants, shops, golf, spa, gym and a very good team to look after all your needs.
I will try not to repeat the all the details mentioned in the many previous reviews. What they say is pretty accurate. What most them leave out are the golf course, gym faciities and beach "offerings."

While I did not golf because of the heat (34c) I did use the driving range. If you are determined to golf, check on the specials. The fairways are wide and the greens look very inviting.

We did go to several of the work out classes, pilates, full body workout and spinning. The instructors are superb. Besides the classes there is great equipment.

We were interested in snorkeling and when we discussed what was available off the beach, the person at the equipment desk offered to be our guide for no charge. He took us to the area near the rocks, and did help us do some exploring. However the water is foggy and while there are some fish, you may be disappointed if you have snorkled in good spots before. But it was worth the gratuity.

We stayed at the Beach Club which was great. A private pool for about 250 guests, poolside service and it's adults only. The Beach Club house offers specialty coffees in the afternoon and a very comfortable place for early evening drinks.

Our reason for the Very Good rating versus Excellent is because of the lack of night life. They try hard to put on stage production each evening, but after that there is really is not much. There is a disco with a DJ, but its not that inviting. They should work on this.

We booked a trip with Eric on the beach, and everything worked out well. For a good reasonably priced massage, try Gigi on the beach.

We took the shuttle into Tamarindo and a taxi back. This is surf town with a few shops and bars and nice beach. Unless you are bored with the resort, you could skip this.

All the restaurants had very good food. Although they tell you need to make reservations, and that the tiimes you request are not available. Don't believe it. We showed up early when we had 8 or 8.30 pm reservations, and always got a table. They save a number of them for walk ups.

The rooms are big and comfortable. But not really luxury. Ours was on the first florr of Tower 1 of the Beach Club facing the pool which provided great pool access.

Room Tip: First foor of a Beach Club tower facing the pool.

Wow.

Just wow. Where should I start? First off, if you're in Costa Rica, maybe it's because you didn't want to visit the other "traditional" holiday locations along the equator or in the Caribbean like Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, etc. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. So much eco beauty for sure, but if you don't want to go out all the time and climb on ziplines, then the resort in this country is magnificent.

Playa Conchal which means, Shell Beach, is one of the best beaches and resorts I've ever had the opportunity to visit. The resort itself has so many ammenities it's crazy. The staff is very friendly, and the scenery is just amazing. There are a lot of a la carte restaurants on the resort where you can have a very nice sit down dinner cooked with fresh ingredients by very talented cooks and chefs. The buffet, well, if the buffet is your last resort, it is actually a great place to eat.

If you'd prefer room service, it's wonderful as well. Got room service a special order breakfast every morning delivered to our room. For a honeymoon you get a free bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate strawberries. There are animals climbing the trees in the morning outside your room, and all of the locals are very friendly.

There is even a photography shop on site to take your photos professionally on the beach, in the pool, or around the resort. Not badly priced either. Favourite restaurants were Faisanella (Italian), the Spanish place, the pizza place for lunch.

Also, favourite drink there, the famous saying, Pura Vida, which if you buy the alcohol for outside the resort (at Brasilito beach, which is a short walk away) you get a great value to smuggle in your checked baggage. They even have a "night club" at the resort which has more of the younger vibe in it if you go early enough and the music is okay.

Also, Erik Garcia and his team, Alex Rabbit included are great at booking getaways cheaper than the hotel ever could, and providing massages, and transport to Tamarindo beach as well. Please do use them, and negotiate a bit with them. Erik himself got us a private tour of Borinquin which had horseback riding, zip lining, hot springs, and a lot of great photo ops.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter if you go the Private Beach Club or not, you get to eat at the restaurant there r...
