This tour was great from start to finish. Freddy is very knowledgeable about Costa Rican culture & history and could answer any questions we had. He took us to a supermarket and showed us some locally made items that made for great souvenirs, and also bought us some beers! Then we did the Borinquen tour, and he was with us every step of the way, making the whole experience go smoothly. I Would highly recommend this tour company, we were really happy with the whole experience. Thanks again to Freddy, Diego, William & everyone involved for a great vacation experience.

Costa Rica Private Tours is rated number one on Trip Advisor and it is rated number one with us! We highly recommend Costa Rica Private Tours and Freddy Montero who is the owner and head tour guide. We vacationed in the beach town of Tamarindo for 10 days in Aug 2012 and we wanted to see as much of Costa Rica as we could without feeling like we travelling the whole time instead of relaxing. We wanted to get to see distant areas like Arenal and Monteverde in just a couple of days but we didn’t want to go on a group tour. A very helpful concierge (Didier at the Garden of Eden Hotel) recommended that we do a private tour with Costa Rica Private Tours and, if possible, try to schedule the owner Freddy to take us. I was originally very hesitant about going away for several days with a complete stranger in a completely different country. But after inquiring with a friend of ours who was a local and our hotel manager we found that Costa Rica Private Tours was well known and reliable.

So we decided to take the tour and … WOW! We couldn’t have had a better time. Freddy was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about sooo many aspects of Costa Rica… from its people, vegetation, animals and geography to its traditions, history and politics. We really felt like we got to know Costa Rica. We visited a coffee plantation, had traditional meals (so good), took pictures at several villages, and got to see some amazing countryside. He also brought water and snacks along for the long drive, stopped when we needed to and kept our personal belongings safe. The first part of the drive to Arenal was mostly on main highways, but Freddy knew of a waterfall that most of the Bus Tours do not stop at. It was really beautiful and NOT TO BE MISSED! There were a few people but it was far from overcrowded. It is a mainstay for some of the locals who bring their families out and other vendors cook and sell BBQ food out by the falls. We saw a family of Howler monkeys right at the entrance. The water was clean and refreshing and the falls were incredible (you could swim right out to them and sit or walk behind them –BUT CAREFULLY).

The drive then ventured through the countryside towards the Arenal volcano and the Lake Arenal. It is a fantastic drive with lots of farmlands, a wind farm, and a scenic loop around the lake and through the rain forest to a charming little town of La Fortuna with a great view of the volcano. There, we went to the Arenal Waterfall and took the 480 steps down to the bottom of the waterfall. It was maybe a bit damp on the way down but the steps were in pretty good condition and it didn’t seem dangerous or overwhelming. We swam in the water at the bottom of the large waterfall. It was a bit imposing (and cold) at first, but was far too spectacular to pass up. In the evening, Freddy arranged for us to lounge in the wonderful hot springs at one of the resorts near La Fortuna. The springs are fed by the waters beneath the volcano and depending on which resort you choose, either heated naturally or artificially. We chose to go to Tabacon Hot Springs, which was a bit higher in price but well worth it! There were several different sections of the Springs to “escape” to and the dinner buffet was top notch. Freddy also found a nice hotel for us to stay that night and we awoke to a beautiful view of the volcano and a hearty breakfast buffet.

The next day we drove to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Natural Preserve. The drive is about 4 hours and can be more than a bit bumpy (the ride is known as a “Costa Rican massage”) but the countryside is spectacular. Monteverde was well worth it for us. They had a butterfly and hummingbird garden, a trail through the cloud forest complete with hanging bridges and one of the best systems of zip-lines you will ever experience. The zip-lining looked a bit intimidating from the pictures (you basically go through the forest and then go completely over it) but the guides are highly professional and very proud that Costa Rica was a trailblazer when it came to many of the zip-lining systems. We drove back to our hotel in Tamarindo that night highly satisfied with the tour and our guide!

We liked Freddy so much that we asked Didier if he was available to take us back to the airport. He was more than happy to oblige. We couldn’t have had a better time in Costa Rica or on our private excursion. We hope to be back soon and visit more of the country through Costa Rica Private Tours!

My bestfriend and I were the only 2 women on this private tour. I must say I was very nervous about booking this tour being that we are 2 younger women in a foreign country however freddy and diego were amazingly professional and respectful. I have already recommended them to other friend visiting the liberia area. Freddy is very knowledgable and makes sure you not only have fun but learn about the culture and the area. The only thing I would do different is book all of my travels and excursions through these guys. I will be back!! :) if your reading this review, do yourself a big favor, look no further and book everything with Costa rica private tours and give freddy a hug for me.

My wife and I just got back from Costa Rica and had a great time with Freddy who took us on a great tour of 4 beachs. Freddy picked up us at our hotel and took us on a 4 beach tour and a great lunch at a local dinner plus took us shopping at Cocco Beach it was a great day and the Beer and water was cold in the van. He got us back to our hotel at 7:00 PM. Next time I go to Costa rica we will use Freddy for all our tours the priceis great and he can take you any where or do any thing you want.
