On a recent visit to Papagayo we used Guanacaste Viajes & Tours to meet us at the Liberia airport for a transfer to our hotel (Hilton Papagayo Resort) and again to transfer us from the hotel to another one in Liberia near the end of our stay. In both cases the driver met us on time and was very polite and helpful.

During our week stay we took 2 tours with them (Palo Verde and Rincon de la Vieja). Both tours operated perfectly. At Rincon de la Vieja, our guide (Manny) led my wife and me on an outstanding nature walk where we saw some animals, many interesting trees and plants as well as the geothermal activity of the volcano. During the walk Manny pointed out the spice achiote which is used in many Costa Rican dishes. When we mentioned that we would like to buy some to take home, he told us about the best brand to buy, and he arranged for us to stop at a supermarket to buy achiote paste as well as coffee, which is infinitely cheaper in a supermarket than in the tourist shops.

Each tour included a lunch, and both of them were excellent. Typical Tico lunches were served in non-touristy restaurants.

All in all, we were most pleased with the quality of the extremely personal and professional services we received.

THE BEST anyone could ask for!! Our first excursion was to Arenal for zip-lining and then the Tabacon Hot Springs Resort. We were picked up at the Hilton Papagayo at 6am then had a great breakfast on our way to Arenal, The zip-lining was incredible!! The views were fabulous! Then we headed to Tabacon for a great lunch and then a couple hours enjoying the most beautiful hot springs i could ever imagine! The whole time in the van we were cracking up at our great guide Santos and our great driver Walter!! It's one thing to see the beauty of the country and all it has to offer but to also have a couple great people to show you their country and educate you about the animals and nature all while making you laugh is priceless! Also some Spanish lessons thrown in!

So because of our great day we decided to do a half day boat tour in Palo Verde National Park with the guarantee that we would have Santos and Walter again. This request was granted and once again had a great time seeing the wildlife and hearing stories during this trip!

A special thanks to Manuel who was our contact with Guanacaste Viejas and for setting up two great trips and also to our guide Santos F. and our driver Walter!! I would recommend Guanacaste Viejas to everyone and when we come back to visit we will definitely use them again for all of our sightseeing and adventure needs!!

PURA VIDA

We had to scramble to find a ride within 24 hours of our arrival to the Liberia Airport, and Guanacaste Viajes finalized our itinerary within 6 hours of the online request. I received a text message with the itinerary and an e-mail as well. The two drivers that we met were genuine, kind, and professional. These guys are trust-worthy and offer their services at a very reasonable price. I would suggest them to anybody who is in need of a shuttle!

It was our first trip to Costa Rica and it definitely will not be our last. We booked our airport transfers as well as two excursions with this company, one to Rincon de la Vieja and one to the Arenal Volcano. Walter (the best driver in the world!) picked us up at the airport when we arrived and he was the first driver waiting in line. We got into an air conditioned van and Walter offered us cold drinks as we got in. It was a quick and efficient ride to the hotel and Walter has a wonderful sense of humor.

A few days later, we took our first excursion to Rincon de la Vieja. Our favorite driver Walter and the best tour guide ever Santos picked us up promptly at the hotel and took us to our destination. We were there so early that we were the first ones on the zip lines (which was great because it was hot!!!) and then to go down the river rafting. We had a blast. Santos gave us a lot of information about the area, the plant life, and was gracious enough to take pictures and videos of us while zip lining and rafting. We definitely had a lot of laughs with Santos. What was even more special was that we were done with our activities a little early and instead of making us sit around and wait for lunch, Santos took us over to the spa on the grounds and we did the volcanic mud and hot pool experience. It was beautiful and relaxing. We had a fabulous day. In fact, we enjoyed Santos and Walter so much, that I asked Manuel if we could have them again for our next excursion.

The next excursion that we took was to Arenal Volcano. We were so excited that Walter and Santos were there to take us! This is a MUST do excursion. It was a long ride from the Hilton Papagayo to the volcano, but Walter and Santos made it fun! We stopped for breakfast in Liberia, then had Spanish lesson on our way to the volcano. Once we arrived, we began with zip lining. The only world I have is, incredible. The view of the volcano, the excitement of zip lining and the wildlife (monkeys, hummingbirds) was just amazing. We got some great pictures of the volcano both clear and covered with clouds. After zip lining, we headed to the hot springs at the hotel where we had a delicious lunch and they 3 hours to enjoy the hot springs. It was so romantic especially sitting behind the waterfall. On the ride on the way back, we laughed the whole way home.

On our last day in Costa Rica, Walter picked us up early to go to the airport. We were so excited to see him. He dropped us off at the airport as scheduled and because we spent a lot of time with him on our trip, we were sad to say goodbye.

My husband and I travel a lot and we have never felt so welcome in any other country. Our trip was made special because of the people we met and spent time with. Walter and Santos, we thank you for an incredible vacation and we will be back! Manuel, thank you for running such a wonderful company!
