We stayed only 2 nights with Rio Perdido and none of us wanted to leave. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with all of the amenities that you could want in a hotel room. Room service was prompt and the location was amazing.

Thermal River: This is located on site down man-made stairs and at first glance is a wonderful river running through the nature of Costa Rica. as soon as you step one toe into the river you realize that it is 90degrees!!!! like a very warm pool that is naturally heated by the volcano! There are four or five locations to swim in a pool like setting with running water off rocks to sit under.

Pool Area was nice and clean as was everything in this newer hotel.

TIP: Stop in Bagaces at the grocery store to pick up any items that you may want in addition to hotel service if staying for a few days. The resort is about 30 minutes from everything and perfect!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same so picking a room is not exactly an advantage. huttle will come to get yo...

As a Costarican, I can not feel prouder of Rio Perdido! I couldn´t believe the world class quality of the resort they built up there! We had the most amazing weekend there... the tubing, the canopy!, the bike trails, the pools... The part of the river that they lighten up at night so you can take a swim in hot water... The delicious food in all of the restaurants, and how well priced it was... We truly enjoyed our time! Congratulations people of Bagaces!! You have created a new world treasure!

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty much the same (we had 4) but they are big and comfortable, with exquisite minim...

I've seen nothing like this in Costa Rica. The place is magical, relaxing, with amazing views and outstanding facilities. During my stay the staff was always friendly and courteous. The thermal pools invite you to spend your entire day immersed in their relaxing, warm waters. I had a blast at the canopy; the experience was mind-blowing and the instructors were a lot of fun, aside from the breathtaking natural sceneries you have access to during your canopy ride. The food was great and the rooms were modernly and tastefully furnished. My kid really enjoyed crossing over the suspension bridge and doing the walk down to the river that flows across the property (also thermal waters). If you are in Costa Rica, note that there's more to beaches and rainforests. This place is magical, different and is really worth your trip.

My friend and I went on a day pass and it was a great day. First of all the property is beautiful. The hotel (resort) lies in front of the rainforest. The views are spectacular and you are walking distance from the zip lining. You are also just a trail away from the River which itself a huge hot spring. It feels amazing whether you are soaking in the river itself or painting yourself with the sulfur infused mud that lies right behind the hotel. The "tubing" wasn't the slow water I expected but I loved it and they sent guides who make sure you enjoy your time. It was a wonderful day I only wish I could have stayed longer. I will next time!!! The staff was wonderful and helpful. I have no complaints everything and everyone was GREAT.

This hotel is a beautiful piece of architectural work. The main building that houses the restaurant, bar, and thermal water pools has a great mix of wood, stone, and glass with modern lines, a massive ceiling clearance, and a near-perfect location. Even in the hottest and driest days in April 2014 there was a strong breeze. The hotel "rooms" are 20 seemingly pre-fabricated houses installed in a cluster with cement paths leading between them and part of the way to the main hotel. The huts/houses have modern lines, colors, and touches (such as LED lights that mimic incandescent bulbs) that were clearly well-thought both for functionality and looks.

Outdoor activities included in the price of stay include visiting the two thermal pools on the property, using the property's hanging bridge and paths for long walks, and trekking down some uneven steps to three apparently naturally-created (I wonder if some man-made assistance was needed, but if it was it is hardly noticeable) thermal pools located at the base of the hill side. Available for an additional fee are a zip-lining trip, tubing down a river surrounded by rock cliffs on both sides, and off-road bicycling. We took part in all except for bicycling. The zip-lining tour will not hit any "must have" list for adrenaline junkies, but is set in a beautiful landscape. It is a good choice for first-timers who are also able to do some minor climbing on ladders driven into the cliff-side rocks. In all activities the staff were superb, friendly, helpful, and energetic.

In stark contrast to the activities staff, the only two negative points from our stay were both staff located at the front desk. Doña Ana and don Isaac, the two front desk staff we encountered, did not have the soft, friendly, tourist-focused touch that we encountered with most other staff. They stood out for being "rough around the edges" when dealing with guests. They might be efficient, but they are clearly there to get through paperwork and not to make you feel cared for. Therefore, set your expectations low when you have to deal with them (which is often since you deal with them for checking in, check out, and for outdoor activities that require additional billing) and that way you will not be disappointed.

Finally, one item to keep in mind is that there are numerous day-time visitor to the hotel as the hotel sells plenty of day-time passes for the thermal pools. This means you can have large group issues that are not immediately obvious when one reads that one is staying at a 20-room hotel. Because of this, you should make your reservations for outdoor activities with some lead-time. Probably making the outdoor activity reservations the night before is sufficient, but ask at the time of booking as the lead time will probably depend on the season.

Room Tip: All cabins seem to have the same pre-fabricated design except for external colors. A few cabins fron...

For Spring break I took my two kids, ages 8 and 11, to Costa Rica for two weeks and we spent 5 nights at Rio Perdido. We planned to stay only 3 but found the adventure opportunities, including zip lining, inner tubing, local river tours and white water rafting to be worth an extended stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional. Edgar was extremely helpful in arranging tours for us and the on-site adventure guards we fun, well-trained and the equipment was better than any we had experienced in a few countries, including the US. The rooms are separate stilted cabanas, modern, fresh and comfortable, with all the amenities. We plan to return soon and have already recommended recommended Rio Perdido to friends. Carrie B.
