You will see wildlife from crocodiles, caiman, Monkeys, iguanas and birds. We went early in the morning and it was not too hot then. They bring the boat along side sunning iguanas, crocodiles and caiman. You will be able to see the Howler monkeys and the whit faced monkeys.
Take water and sunscreen. Although water and fruit is offered take some extra water for yourself.
At first I was let down by the absence of wildlife then along mid morning they showed up and it was very enjoyable.

We enjoyed this nature tour. I would recommend going early before there are many boats on the water. I think going during the dry season is supposed to be best. We went at the beginning of the rainy season. We saw quite a few crocodiles, howling monkeys, many iguanas, and various birds. We were lucky to see some white-faced monkey but understood many of the other groups missed it. Be sure to bring insect repellant as the mosquitos were heavily present, especially the park area right before you board the boat. Bring along binoculars or a camera with a long lens to best enjoy the wildlife. Our tour guide stopped by a ranch for lunch and that was an enjoyable experience- the food was delicious. We also stopped to see native pottery being made- of course we could not leave without buying some. Enjoyable trip!

If you are a nature lover in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, a Mardigi Tour to Palo Verde National Park is an adventure worth taking. Prior to the start of the tour, a suggested itinerary and options to accommodate physical capabilities and personal tastes are discussed. Consensus is reached and the tour begins.

Marvin, our driver and tour guide, is a native Costa Rican with a command of English, an interest and extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna, and a love of his country. He picked us up at our resort in an immaculate air conditioned vehicle. He drove responsibly, stopping frequently to point out and comment on animals, trees, plants, and people going about their daily routines.

There were limitless photo opportunities. We saw howler and white faced monkeys, iguanas, ox carts, horses, cattle, macaws, coatis, parrots, and countless other animals.

Lunch was great and included as were admission fees.

We were a four person group, which allowed everyone to ask questions, and see and hear everything Marvin pointed out and said.

Two other tour groups joined us on a leisurely covered boat ride along the Tempisque River. It was relaxing, interesting, and narrated by Marvin, Among the sightings were crocodiles, egrets, blue herons, kingfishers, ducks, parrots, colorful and large iguanas, bats, turtles, and an assortment of monkeys.

We would advise wearing sunscreen, insect repellant, sunglasses, comfortable light clothing, and hats.

The half day tour lasted about six hours that flew by. It was completed with a drop off at our resort.

Marvin and his entire staff are professional, amicable, well groomed, polite, knowledgeable, English speaking, competent, and eager to please.

There are many tour companies that will give you a wonderful tour of Palo Verde National Park. However, if you have your own car and are an experienced traveler with at least some basic Spanish, you can have a wonderful time on your own. Getting there is a bit tricky - the entrance is within a few hundred feet of the sign for Bagaces off Highway 1 and heads west. We did not have an SUV and had no trouble on the dirt road (wouldn't suggest during a rain storm though). At the entrance where you pay $10/person, you can ask the park ranger to call ahead for a tour. Once you arrive at the spot, you wait for the tour boat. Our driver was Jorge and his assistant was Dago. They do not speak English, but were very friendly and informative and with our minimal Spanish, we were completely satisfied. They gave us a long, wonderful tour of more than two hours. We saw multiple crocodiles, amazing amounts of birds, especially on bird island, huge iguanas, monkeys and lizards. We felt extremely well taken care of and very safe and the cost was reasonable (definitely less than the tours we looked into). So again, I'm sure the tours are great, but if you want, you can easily do this on your own. We hooked up with a lovely Canadian couple, so there were just four of us. A wonderful day.

My husband and I had a wonderful excursion to Palo Verde National Park run by Falcon Tours. Our driver was very knowledgable and his English was excellent. This is important when you're traveling 1.5 hours one way to the Park and your Spanish is limited. We saw white faced monkey's, howler monkey's, birds, alligators and iguanas. A very good "native" lunch was included.

We also used Falcon Tours for other excursions and travel to and from the airport. They were excellent. Their website is www.liberiapurelife.com. The tour operator is Marion Cabrera
