“Amazing, rural, off the beaten track mountain lodge”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

We fell in love with this rural, mountain community, incredibly kind and generous host, and rustic, charming lodge, complete with swimming pool, hot tub, and delicious home-cooked food. Tons of beautiful birds, an incredible view of the valley, and a clean, organized lodge all make us want to come back next year, which we are already planning to do. In fact, we decided to invite our family and friends and get married at the lodge next year! We can't recommend this place enough...it is off the beaten track and gives a real sense of what rural Costa Rica is like. You can hike up the mountain right from the property, visit a local family-run sugar cane plant, go rafting nearby, and just relax, away from the crowds. Gilberth speaks good English, and is very ready to please. He will pick you up from the bus coming from Turrialba. Turrialba has regular bus service from San Jose. The lodge is about 3.5 hours from San Jose, by safe, reliable, cheap public transportation. Gilberth just opened up this lodge in the last few years, which is why he doesn't have many reviews yet. But we are so grateful we took the chance and stayed at his lodge, and you will be too! What a hidden treasure.

I reaches this place randomly because it did not appear in any guide but thanks to this you can enjoy a peaceful charming and infinitely beautiful place. The owner, incredibly kind will show you the sourroundings of his magnificent garden, cook for you amazing food and recommend you the best places for your next destination. The best rafting places in the country quite near and astounding mountains to hike. Relax afterwards in the jacuzzi with views to the mountains and in the confortable beds. A place to go, without a doubt.

Saludos cordiales!!

Not far from the city of San Jose lies this beautiful retreat place in the mountains near Turrialba. It is not easy to get to but is really worth the effort because the place is gorgeous and the owner Gilberth has spent a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in making a jewel of a place. I am almost uncertain about writing a review because I don't want the place to change too much with the arrival of too many tourists but I really enjoyed being in nature with all the modern amenities. It is calm, quiet with beautiful humming birds surrounding you in the morning and in late afternoon and you can enjoy the evening under the stars in a modern beautiful hot tub!... does not get any better than that folks..

I really enjoy being at Gilberth's place. I've been there for almost 3 weeks, and I just didn't want to leave. Everything was so nice, it's like being part of the nature. I traveled all around Costa Rica, and it's one of the most beautiful place I saw. Food was excellent, room was really clean, all I had to do is enjoy!

Went with my girlfriend in february 2013.

It's a charming little place to stay in the mountains near Turrialba.
The lodge overlooks a valley, that's truly away from most of civilization.

And that's exactly what makes this place charming.
The remoteness of it means that you may find it a little difficult to get to, but it's worth the trip.

You'll be rewarded by staying at Gilberth's inn. He's a great innkeeper, and also quite the cook.
but best of all, you'll get to have breakfast on a little terrace, overlooking a valley, with a ton of humingbirds, no further than 3 feet away from you, enjoying their breakfast as well.

Definitely worth it if you're in the area.
But do try and chat with someone that will be able to give you proper directions as to how to get there...it's not the easiest of places to get to.

cheers!

Fantastic and awesome place. Kind and proffesional staff, and good service. Also the surrounding are really nice, with good areas for enjoy the nature and walk around. The owner, Gillberth is a great person, and know how to advise about the best places to visit, and activities to do. My days there were "pura vida", as costarican people say. I really encourage people to come here. Also Turrialba is a good place to explore the beauty of Costa Rica and practice extreme sports, such as rafting or canoeing.
