My boyfriend and I had heard about this place from a friend in Guanacaste, so we decided to drive an hour outside of San Jose to the establishment. After parking the car, we were met by a man who we assume is the manager. He explained the prices and the differences in temperature of the five tiny thermal pools. The establishment appears to be somewhat still under construction. My boyfriend and I were holding hands and determining whether the $40 entry price was a good value as the business is quite small. While contemplating, we exchanged a casual kiss, and as soon as we did, were yelled at by the supervisor. He proceeded to tell us “this was a family establishment and children are present. There are cameras recording for evidence” and we were ASKED TO VACATE THE PREMISES.

This place is NOT LGBT friendly, and doesn’t welcome gay couples. We were asked to leave and treated horribly simply because we kissed. This cannot be happening in 2019. I suggest you do not go here, don’t support homophobes!

We were warmly welcomed by Don Hector Chaves and he proved to be a gracious, knowledgeable and solicitous host.
He was always present to attend to our questions and to offer a fascinating history of the area (he has been active here for more than 30 years!).
The freshly-prepared, typical dishes were quite delicious and the staff members were attentive and courteous throughout.
The thermal springs were magnificent and, set against the emerald forest with breathtaking landscapes, deserve a mention as one of THE TOP 10 experiences in Costa Rica.
Pura Vida Don Hector y muchísimas graçias !

Easy to get to from San Jose you take the bus to Cartago then transfer to the Cartago-Orosi bus and take it to the end of the line then walk up the hill about 800m. Takes a little more than a hour but the most inexpensive way from San Jose. We took the package that included a snack and it was perfect. Also while everyone is having lunch you can get some great photos. The pools are different temperatures so there is one just right. A very relaxing afternoon a must do if you are in San Jose. It was not too busy so was a nice afternoon. You'll need to make reservations.

Absolutely stunning views of the Orosi Valley with rainforest spanning the hills behind. The hot springs are tucked away on a dirt road as well as being gated so be sure to call ahead and make a reservation as the website requests.

The facilities themselves are quite nice, clean and well-organized. We were given towels, shown the locker rooms, and asked what time we would like to eat. The food was simple and delicious - we opted for Package 1 and the snack they provided was filling enough for three people and felt like lunch. There was also water, ice, and two kinds of cold juice available. Definitely worth spending an afternoon if you don’t mind a little planning.
