“Basilica was picturesque.”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Very nice cathedral with large stain glass windows depicting the saints and Jesus very colorful and beautiful. Its white masonry exterior adds to character of what a Basilica should look like. There was mass still be conducted inside while we were there. You can even get some holy/blessed water at the outside rear of the Basilica. Water is free but containers, if you need one, are sold nearby. If you don't like crowds, don't go the early part of Aug, because pilgrimages from many cities including San Jose, bring an estimated 1.5 - 2 million worshippers to the Basilica for a couple of days! So plan accordingly.

“impressive work of architecture and art”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

The Basilica is of significance to everyone, not just Catholics. The history is amazing, and the stream from the miracle actually flows into a courtyard at the church. Visit the "basement" to see many milagros and offerings people have made in search of healing and remembrance. I was there during Holy Week, and it was truly impressive. Pilgrims from the entirety of Central America come for the feast day in August. The religious article stores across the street are worth a visit as well.

“deserve a”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

I toured Our Lady of the Angels Basilica in Cartago for a short period of time. The architectural style is elegant. What impressed me most was that people were very religious. One woman and her child walked on their knees all the way from the back to the front. There is a holy water fountain, where many people filled their bottles.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Great to visit. Beautiful basilica in the middle of downtown Cartago. Open to the public and free. It's even beautiful just to sit in the grounds around the church. Don't forget to go to the "basement" for the church's little museum and holy water fountain!

If you are in the City of Cartago, don't miss this church. Has holy water that people line up to bottle.
