“Great insight into the world of coffee”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

We called in here on our way to Sarapiqui. The tour was excellent. Very relaxed and informative. It didn't feel gimmicky and there's an opportunity to buy coffee at the end (as you would expect!) A nice way to break up a journey.

“Excellent tour and beautiful grounds.”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

Isaac was our extremely capable, energetic, and knowledgeable guide. I enjoyed learning about each phase of the process and will appreciate coffee even more. The picturesque setting and Doka grounds (sorry) are magnificent. My wife took a turn at mixing the beans spread out on a huge flat surface for 3 days to dry in the sun. I bought six 12 oz bags of whole beans at $8 each and am enjoying Peaberry at this moment. Lunch was good and convenient.

“Great way to learn about coffee”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

Driving from Poas Volcano to La Fortuna this place came in relative proximity and early in planning I made the decision to stop by Doka estate and take a coffee tour. My wife and I enjoyed our tour at Doka very much. Our tour guide was friendly, her English was excellent and talking about coffee was very educational and entertaining. We also had the lunch as the package be bought. The lunch was served as buffet style on a large terrace overlooking the coffee fields. The food was good, although I can’t say that it was memorable. We bought some coffees for our friends as we learned on the tour about 3 types of coffee available: very high export level, good and regular and later on we found that prices offered at Doka estate were as good as the cheapest supermarkets in other cities. The grounds of the Doka estate were lovely, well cared for and with beautiful views. We had a good experience overall and it was worth the trip there.

“Enjoyable afternoon after early morning flight”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

We were looking for a low-key activity to fill the afternoon after our 3 am drive to the airport and four hour flight. This was the perfect activity. We were picked up by a driver from Costa Rica Drivers (excellent - seperate review) and brought to the plantation. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains and has lush greenery. I'm sure the bright sunshine helped our disposition. After an enjoyable lunch we were given an excellent tour of the plantation. We were shown plants in all stages of development, coffee beans growing on bushes, processing and roasting operations along with a short video. We were also given the opportunity to turn the beans (a manual process done with a special rake on cement pads outside) and samples of the coffee. The tour guide was very informative and the coffee good. After the tour we walked through the butterfly garden and were mesmerized by the large Blue Morpho butterflies and many others. We had previously visited a coffee plantation in Hawaii and this tour was superior. The scenery and tour were restorative and a great start to our vacation after an early travel day.

“Coffee to die for!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

I was on a cruise ship and this was one of our on-shore excursions - on Christmas Day! The estate is really beautiful and we had a great tour of the coffee bushes and then the different stages of preparation. We were told all about the different types of coffee they produced and given the opportunity to taste them to decide which we liked. Their coffee is the only coffee I have ever been able to drink black and enjoy; it is simply superb coffee! We had a lovely meal in their restaurant.
