“A really good time!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

I enjoyed this very much! I'm not fond of heights or edges and the guides made sure we were safe at all times. 4 Waterfalls to descend and hiking through the rain forest was a pretty decent trek. I would have like one more big waterfall at the end to bring all the practice together. Lunch was good and served a bit early in the day, but what the heck. Be flexible. All in all, I'd do it again and enjoyed this activity.

Thank you for your comments. I am so happy you enjoyed your time waterfall rappelling with us. In response to the lunch being a little early, during this time of year, the Green Season, we run less people so it does seem a little early for lunch after the 7:00am tour. But the second tour starts with lunch, at around 12:30pm. So happy you enjoyed your trip with us and hope to see you again in paradise!

“Overpriced touristy fun”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

This was admittedly a very fun experience as I've never rappel led before. In addition, I did feel absolutely 100% safe and in the hands of a professional staff.
Cons: they claim the activity is about 5 hours long, in reality you're headed through 4 canyons for the rappelling part, there's about 15-20 minutes walking in total and at around 9:45 you're done. In order to extend the activity (and drive up the price?) they then took us back to their hq for lunch (who's in the mood for chicken at 10:15??), during which you see the pictures that the staff took of you. A was mentioned, they didn't have dry bags during out took either. We got back to town at around 11:20 (4.5 hours later) and wished we could have Ted for the rappelling alone, without the lunch and forced picture viewing (the DVD of the pictures by the way costs 35 usd!!!!!!!!) As non Americans, we felt that the activity was catered to Americans (the staff kept on trying to pump you up by making noises and lots of high fives etc').
My boyfriend who's got experience rappelling felt that he would not recommend this to anyone with experience, as the staff really does the work for you (they're every tight on safety which is good for beginners, like me...).
All in all, we had a good time (me more than him since this was new for me) but this didn't seem worth the 100 usd we paid for and we wish they didn't drag the activity out...... .

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I wanted to address a few of your comments to clear up some things. On all our marketing, brochures, website etc. we clearly state approx. 4 hours. We also have 4 rappels, not 4 canyons. We want all clients, with experience or novice, to have a great time, that is why the guides are happy and encouraging during your trip. We do not offer dry bags, that would be just to costly and I am not sure why you thought we do offer them. On all our marketing we state clearly what the trip includes. In terms of catering to Americans, I am not sure what you mean. We love all types of tourists that visit us, and welcome them. In terms of the time, or forcing the tour, during lower season the first tour does get back earlier than during the rest of the year because we have less people. And the second tour offers lunch before the tour, around 12:30pm, so you did have that option if your day allowed for that. We also send a photographer that takes photos for you so you don't need to risk the loss or damage of your camera. We do allow you to bring your own camera, at your own risk, and many people do that and have their own dry bag for that. We show the photos on a flat screen for you to enjoy and decide if you would like to buy a CD that we actually burn for you right then, with un blocked photos so you can do anything you want with them. This is a service we get lots of wonderful comments about. The cost of the tour, as stated on our website is $98.00 US. We have not raised our prices in 4 years. and the cost of the CD is $30. Again I know you said you had a great time, so we are happy to hear that! And as you can see from so many amazing comments on Trip Advisor, we have lots and lots of different people from all around the world, experienced and with no experience that love Pure Trek and all that the tour entails. And we are the only Canyoning/Canyoneering company that focuses on one thing, waterfall rappelling, and believe that keeps it safe and unforgettable...

Thank you and hope to see you again!

“Good fun and worth the cost but don't go in a large group”
Reviewed September 4, 2012 via mobile

Well if you've been canyoning before in Switzerland this is a great deal different, and is strictly a repelling activity. 4 repells of 150, 85, 45, and 90 ft. A couple actually have waterfalls you get near enough to have a good soak. Definitely bring a waterproof camera. They are cheap in the states and worth every penny to have in costa rica. The guides were great and their place is close to the royal corin, so don't pay for transit. Afterwards they bring you back to their basecamp to enjoy coffee and you can lay in their hammocks. Their lunch was actually quite good and filling. Any size group over 7 or 8 and it will get kind of annoying to have to wait. The whole thing lasts less than 3 hours

“Fun time”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

We had a great time a few weeks ago with Pure Trek. The guides were very friendly and appeared interested and excited to be on the tour with us. They were also professional and we did not have safety concerns. Would have liked a few more large waterfalls but still felt the trip we took was worth the time and money. Lunch was good too.

“Perfect CR experience”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This was some of the most fun we ever had! My son and I went canyoning with Pure Trek as a way to see the jungle and try something new. They were very conscientious about safety--we were always clipped onto a safety wire when we were on a platform or near a drop. One person would set us up on the rope to rappel, and another one at the bottom held the rope to check our fall, if necessary. A third person up top used a friction device with a second rope. For people who struggled, they gently lowered them each time. People who wanted more control were given it, but with the guides still watching and making sure they were going slowly enough at the bottom.

It was a great way to see the terrain, the physical activity was a blast, we learned how to rappel, and we had a fantastic time. The guides were super friendly and helpful, and we got a cd of pictures of the trip. This is the first place I will go when I go back to Costa Rica.

I am so happy you and your son we able to experience waterfall rappelling together! Our focus is creating an experience that anyone can enjoy, from the experienced to the novice. And also like you stated, the rainforest and terrain are amazing!

Thank you again for you comments, and we hope to have you both back again!
