“Luxurious and relaxing/filled with more couples than families”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

Recently stayed at Nayara with my wife and two children (ages 6 and 4). Wonderful service, relaxing atmosphere, beautiful grounds, large and luxurious suite with large bathroom/outdoor shower space. Food also very good. Only issue to consider is that it felt more suited and was filled with more couples than families with young children.

There is a reason this hotel get so many fantastic reviews, which is why we chose it in the first place. We were not disappointed!! My wife and I decided to have our 10 year anniversary trip at this beautiful place and it was perfect! We spent 4 nights in room 28 which had a great view of the volcano and was nice and quiet. I have much to say about all aspects of this place but I don't want you to be bored reading it, because I know how useful these reviews can be. We didn't book any of the predetermined packages but used a la cart selections from the Hotel.

ARRIVAL
We booked the car service through the hotel and our driver, Mario, was waiting for us when we exited the San Jose airport. Unfortunately, his vehicle was an older van which made some of the bumpy and curvy 3 hours road trip to La Fortuna a bit rough. However, Mario was great to talk to and was full of great information.

CHECK-IN
As we pulled up to the front entrance it was clear we were going to be pampered. The service was immediately noticeable as they handed us a bottle of water and cold towel as we went to check in. The check in process was quick, painless and everything went as smooth as can be. They put us on a golf cart where we were driven to our room. They made sure to show us all the features of the room and were very helpful.

THE ROOM
Simply amazing! From the furnishings, the size, the privacy, the patio, the lush landscaping were all unbelievable. You really feel like you are in paradise! Since they knew it was our anniversary there was a very nice decoration on our bed surrounded by rose pedals and a sign wishing us a very happy anniversary! The bathroom is huge with very separated male/female stations. An awesome rain shower in between but I really liked the double outdoor shower. Its secluded by a large sold wall, but naturally landscaped, it feels as though you are in the middle of nowhere. The bed was a beautiful even if the mattress was a bit too hard for us. From the bed you have a clear view of the volcano out the patio windows. The patio itself is covered and surrounded by lots of lush landscaping giving you complete privacy from the neighboring rooms. All the wood, which I assume is locally made, is fantastic! I enjoyed the hammock and the spa on out there often.

THE GROUNDS
The picture you see don't do this place justice. You have to see it in person to believe how great the gardens really are. You fell alone most of the time in a place full of colorful, natural surroundings. With the addition of Nayara Springs, you have more grounds to explore and utilize additional amenities which is great.

SPA
We did partake in a few spa treatments and the staff were fantastic as were the treatments themselves. The location of the spa is incredible and the rooms are open air as they should be in the place!

FOOD
The free morning breakfast buffet was amazing. Not your typical free breakfast you get in a hotel in the states. Lots of great choices and always included something different each day so you don't get bored. We tried each restaurant at least once and were not disappointed ever! The staff were always super pleasant and accommodating. We made reservations one night at their new place which has limited seating. The person who took it, wrote it on the wrong page and when we arrived they didn't have a table for us. They saw the mistake and quickly found a table to setup for us and at the end didn't charge us for the desert which really wasn't necessary. We also took part in the welcoming reception at the Sushi place which included a free taste and a free drink. The wine bar was also a neat place to try out.

ACTIVITIES
Aside from enjoying our room, the pool, spa, and grounds, we booked Zip Lining and Hot Springs via the hotel. The zip lining from Sky Trek was great! They were very professional and made you feel at ease if you never have done this before. The views were amazing and we had great weather for it! We also booked hot springs at Eco termales, which I'm glad we did but wasn't something I would do again. The price doesn't include transportation which is another $10 each way, and when you add it all up, I didn't feel it was worth it. However, feeling the hot springs and getting under that waterfall was interesting.

DEPARTURE
Check out and getting the bill went very smoothly as well. We had also booked transportation back to the airport with them and they were there early. This time we had Manuel driving us and he was in a more standard SUV like a GMC Yukon. It was a MUCH smoother ride going back then it was getting there! Next time I will request they use a car like that in both directions.

SUMMARY
My wife and I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this trip. Every single person you met that worked here was so nice and always helpful with a smile on their face. No hint of not wanting to be at work while we are on vacation. We will definitely be going back again some day and this time will try the Villas at Nayara Springs to have a hot spring plunge pool on our patio! While there were some kids around as it neared spring break in the states, I wouldn't suggest it for this place. It is really geared more fore couples.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a clear view of the Volcano, not all rooms have it!

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Nayara. Absolutely one of the most beautiful and well-run resorts we've ever had the pleasure of staying! We had the 'Volcano Package' including dinner, massage, and multiple excursions including hiking and zip lining. EXCELLENT. The views of Arenal are breathtaking, the staff fabulous, and the food and wine were top-notch. Not a single complaint, other than we wish we could have stayed longer!

Just returned from Costa Rica and spent 3 days at Nayara Hotel with our family - a total of 11 people. It was a great for everyone. Staff cannot be more accomodating. All the accomodations were deluxes. Everything you expect from a deluxe property. Food was also wonderful. Spa up to any deluxe hotel standards.

I have stayed in plenty of luxury hotels, but this was one of the nicest experiences I have ever had. It was a huge room with all high end finishes- indoor shower with 2 rainhead showerheads, outdoor shower with dual showerheads too. A heating towel rack (ok, its the tropics, we didn't use that but it was a nice touch), an outdoor private jacuzzi... it was unreal. The breakfast was included and there was so much food it was challenging to finish and then go do our adventure tours :) The wine pairing and tasting dinner was amazing too. Definitely worth the $ and time. The staff was overly attentive, the food fantastic, and there was so much to do btwn the pools, jacuzzis, wine bar, yoga classes, restaurants etc, that once we were done with our adventure tour (zip lining and canyoneering) that there was no reason to leave the property. Amazing.

My wife and I stayed from March 17th to the 24th - which is apparently very long according to the guy that checked us in. First of all, the grounds are lush and slightly surreal. Though i've traveled a lot, i've just never seen anything quite this beautiful. If you're travelling without children, i recommend the pool at the Nayara Springs - the adjacent sister property. Also, the restaurant right next to that pool was our favorite.
The only downside (well, apart from the high number of children running around) was the distance. The 3.5 hour drive seem to take forever after traveling for 8+ hours. This isn't an issue with the hotel and i'm definitely not sorry that we went. it was just long...
We did a couples spa, horseback riding to the falls, zip lining, Ecotermales Hot Spring, and we went to La Fortuna for lunch one day. The Ziplining was amazing, even though it was raining for the first part of it.

Room Tip: If you're not traveling with kids, the pool at Nayara Springs is a better option for a relaxing...

Great hotel. Really nice rooms and facilities. Breakfast was out of this world too. Only thing... Trip advisor just ranked this as one the nicest hotels in the world. That sets your expectations pretty high. Probably not fair to the hotel. Was it a really nice hotel? Absolutely... Amazing really. Was it the nicest I've ever seen anywhere? I don't know about that. Certainly a great place though.
