“Beautiful grounds, clean rooms, and great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Casa Luna provided an adequate stay on our girls-only trip. We had so many excursions during the day, we really only had time to shower and collapse in bed in the evenings – my perfect vacation really! The grounds of the resort are immaculately landscaped, exceptionally clean, and quiet. It was such a treat our first morning to wake up and take a stroll down the winding pathways and discover the habitat and native flowers. And when the clouds finally gave way – WOW – the view of the volcano! The rooms and bedding are very basic but there’s plenty of storage space, good a/c, and a mini-fridge. Maid service was sufficient as well. The food in the open-air restaurant was very good, including the artistic presentation - even when we dined on vouchers provided in our travel package. Breakfast was always good with a fresh assortment of fruit, toasts, eggs, meats, and beverages. The restaurant staff wasn’t exactly friendly, but no real complaints there. We actually preferred to dine at the resort restaurant vs. any of the establishments in town. Wi-fi is slim to none in the evenings, even though we were one of the closest buildings to the main building. Overall Casa Luna is a good, very clean, budget-minded resort, close enough to town, but far enough away to quietly enjoy paradise. Happy travels!

We stayed at the Casa Luna 08/24-27 2013 on a Living Social Package which included excursions with Ecoterra. The Hotel is well located approximate 1-1.5 miles from town . The hotel has beautiful manicured tropical landscape with several ponds that provide a habitat for frogs that sing in the evening to add to the ambiance of this tropical paradise. The hotel offers several amenities to include wifi, pool, restaurant, and full service spa. The rooms are modestly decorated, clean, comfortable beds, with hot showers and all face the Arneal volcano providing a postcard backdrop. Service from the front desk, dining area, and support staff was excellent, most of the hotel staff is bilingual and very helpful addressing questions and concerns. My package included buffet breakfast which was good. Had lunch and dinner in town highly recommend La Parada located edge of the park in the center of town they have an excellent grilled chicken casados plate served in traditional Tico style black beans, rice, fried plantain, macaroni salad and your choice of meat around $8.00 US another good place to eat is Nenes meals run around $8-15.00 and although I did not try there steak I was told it was excellent. We spent time in town during the day and early evening shopping never felt threatened or unsafe, the merchants were friendly and helpful accepted us currency as well as colons. There are several markets in town to buy food, water and incidentals if you need them the taxi ride from the hotel is $5.00 US each direction .
Regarding excursions we used Peter Hernandez with Ecoterra located within the hotel ,Mr. Hernandez was very friendly and helpful and I would recommend you consult him if you have any questions or would like to book excursions. we booked ziplining,,white water rafting, horseback riding , and hiking to the Arneal volcano all of these excursions were excellent, all of the providers were professional and did an awesome job to make each experience safe , memorable and exciting. We were particularily impressed with our guide on the volcano hike "Walter " he was a highly educated naturalist with excellent knowledge of geology, local plants and animals and made the experience very educational and interesting , I would highly recommend him to anyone taking this tour or someone looking for a personal guide .
We would definitely recommend Casa Luna hotel and Spa if you are considering coming to La Fortuna, it is a great mid range hotel in a tranquil setting a great place to relax and unwind

Room Tip: Would recommend an upstairs room for a good view of the of the garden, pond, and volcano

I visited the hotel off peak yet the atmosphere was still good.
The cleanliness of all areas of the hotel was good.
The bar has a selection of cocktails and a 2 4 1 happy hour each evening!
The pool is lovely with volcanic views.
The maid service is of excellent standard.
The breakfast buffet was great too!

We had chance to compare other hotels in area and this by far was best value. Breakfast adequate but everything else very nice. Great location. If you go skip waterfall and do the chocolate tour down the road instead.
Nice grounds with quite location central to everything.

Staying at Casa Luna was a nice little oasis. The rooms were very private and we did not hear our neighbors at any point in time. I was very happy with the room it was small, private and modern. The pool area was nice and private with pretty gardens.

The cab to La Fortuna is $5.

The cab to the waterfall was $9. Everyone says its within walking distance but I do not suggest it, it is all up hill and once you get there you have to do the hike. We did however walk back, which was nice.

The restaurant was so-so and overpriced, I would suggest going into town for food. I would have been more inclined to eat at the restaurant if they had a happy hour there as well as at the pool.

The front desk has umbrellas you can rent, which is a nice feature.

Down sides- Due to the open air nature of all of the rooms in the area, we had ants and a gecko frequently visit our room. Also, the TV needs an update, although if you are in the area you should not be watching the TV. They also do not have a hot tub.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room. They have a private balcony and beautiful views!

I loved this hotel. The rooms are comfortable and smart without being fussy. The small swimming pool is surrounded by beautiful gardens. I had the pool to myself one afternoon and it was just paradise. The views of the volcano are stunning. I think the food was OK - I don't recall as it wasn't the most important thing for me. You can always eat in the nearby town - just a short taxi ride. To improve this already lovely hotel I recommend cushions for the hard wooden dining chairs and a change from the old fashioned pop music played in the bar and the pool - how about some classical music?

Easy to find and just a short drive out of town as most of the nice hotels are in La Fortuna.
Clean rooms and great pool, we have 2 young children and they loved it!!! The breakfast was good and all staff really friendly, we will go back for sure!!

Room Tip: They rooms are ground and 1st floor so if you have kids get a ground floor to avoid any stairs. Even...
