Stayed here for 4 nights and it is a solid 3 hour twisty and hilly drive from SJO airport. Casa Luna is beautiful and everyone is so willing to help. Some suggestions for anyone headed here: bring or buy a parka, prep for a 3 hour drive from the airport, buy large water bottles to put in your room, do not leave ANY food out due to the ants (don't pack a banana in your backpack...learned this one the hard way), bring enough cash (dollars work fine) because there is no ATM at Casa Luna. Call your credit card companies to let them know where you will be. The location could trigger a fraud alert and temorarily shut off your card. There is Wi-fi here which is lovely. The open air spa treatment was lovely with the sounds of the rain forest. I would recommend hitting the local restaurants like Los NeNes for the ceviche (fantastic) rather than staying at Casa Luna. Lava Lounge is a fantastic place to wind down with drinks after a full and fun day. Many locals there. La Fortuna falls, very close by Casa Luna is a MUST SEE. It is straight up the mountain to the right from the hotel and it takes about 10 mins via a cab. Overall an amazing experience. Great cab drivers helped us out, Wilson and Alberto. Get to know them early and they can help you out the entire time.

Room tip: Second floor rooms are better because of the views.

My teenage son and I recently stayed here as part of a Groupon package deal. I was pleasantly surprised at what a nice hotel it was for such a bargain. The small grounds are beautiful, full of lush tropical vegetation, toads, birds and lizards. All the rooms and the pretty little pool have a great view of the Arenal Volcano. The rooms are simple but clean and functional. The high levels of rain meant that the terra cotta tile floors made a lot of sense, because nothing dried out if it had been soaked. Breakfast was included and had a delicious array of fresh fruits, breads, and eggs made to order. Dinners were a little pricey but pretty good. The hotel was a great base for the many adventures we had in the area. One of our favorites was simply renting bikes from the hotel and riding (uphill on the way there, downhill back) to the nearby waterfall. You can swim in the waterfall's cool pools, which is wonderful after the ride and hike in. As part of our package we also went horseback riding, zip-lining, white-water rafting, hiking on a lava flow with a biologist, and spent some time in a hot springs. All of it was fabulous fun, and seemed very safe at the same time. The hotel was perfectly situated for all of those activities, and can arrange them for you when you arrive. The spa was also great. I got a massage-- the room had three walls so one could hear a trickling stream and birds-- it was heavenly. Although it's not luxurious, it was simple, beautiful, and well-located. I would definitely return.

This hotel has amazing views of Arenal and is very close to a gorgeous waterfall. The restaurant is also excellent and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. Casa Luna makes a great base for a trip to Arenal. Visit the nearby. Eco Thermales hot springs and try Soda Viquez for lunch in La Fortuna. The pool at Casa Luna is lovely but a bit chilly. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly.

Room tip: Request a second floor room for better views. Room I4 has the best views of Arenal.

Stayed for a few days in May and had the most amazing views of the volcano. Simply breath taking in the right weather and the hotel is in a perfect location.

Great rooms and the view from the room we had was amazing, the waterfall is just 2 minutes drive and great location to access La Fortuna.

The food in the restaurant was simply amazing, my experience after two months here is food is not Costa Ricas strongest point but Casa Luna was AMAZING. Great breakfast and dinner was fantastic.

Room tip: We had room I4 and the balcony view is unbeatable, also we got a great deal by just turning up and negotiating heavily! In the slow season you can grab a bargain and spend the saving on a great dinner.

Stayed here for six nights as part of a Groupon deal which included several activities off the property. As others have mentioned the rooms are spacious and the balconies large and perfect for viewing Volcan Arenal when it is not clouded over. The hotel is designed so that every room faces the volcano so there really is no 'bad' room, but upper floor rooms really are best in my opinion. Our first morning we literally had NO hot water - apparently we shared a water tank with the room across from us which included three 20-something girls. While that did not happen again the water pressure was never great. The breakfast buffet was not huge but contained enough to please most and there was a lady who made eggs to order. Cabs INTO town cost $5; cabs back to the hotel $4. If you want to do the Rainforest Chocolate Tour, it is only 100 meters (a little over 300 feet) from the hotel - just make sure you call from the front desk and make a reservation so you're not charged for using the phone in your room. At night the toads are all over the place so get your flashlights and cameras out...they're huge! We did not eat at the hotel other than breakfast but instead ate in town...Soda Viquez being our hands down favorite. Also, if you want to do laundry they do not have a self-serve laundry here - they charge by the piece. We took our clothes into town and paid half the price to get our laundry done.

Room tip: Get a second floor room
